Future

(A/N: You have to love this life,I was ready to post fifteen chapters on my patr3on and five here, but my laptop decided to kill himself losing all of my data saved in him. Well once again,I will have to write the chapters and hopefully by the end of this week I will be able to at least post five chapters here . )

"How many people will you take with you?"

"Ten should be more than enough but have a squad or two ready in case something happens. I don't know what lurks in the metro and I don't want to sacrifice the lives of our people. I'll even take the armored car with us."

"You do you, Eric. While you will be on your clearing quest, I will search for any clue on where the National Guard may be or at least where the last survivors from the National Guard are. Olivia will continue training the recruits while my brother … will do whatever he's doing in his workshop."

"Be careful and if you can, try to search for any clues that may lead to Hershel."

"I should be the one that says be careful. I'll try to search for your girlfriend, but don't expect any result okay?"

"Roger that."

Immediately after that, I went to the armory to get ready for the expedition, while my men were waiting for me there.

After I got geared up, I spoke with Brian, who got the driver's post on this expedition.

"Ready for the expedition?"

"Believe it or not this may be the only interesting thing that happens to me in the last month."

"We can't fight every single day and it kind of been my fault for the lack of missions. You know how bad the disappearance of my girlfriend hit me and I wasn't thinking straight. Now that I managed to get past it. We will have a lot of action in the following weeks."

"Another thing that I hope to happen is for me to get out of this job."

"C'mon mate. Being a driver ain't that bad. You can drive a badass railroad armored car while giving support to our boys."

"Ah, I kind of miss the video games where you will just sit down and play without fearing for your life."

"Be optimistic, now you will playing full 4k and with VR technology. No respawn, unfortunately ."

"Indeed, a real-life version of resident evil. Now, boss, enough with our chit chat. We have a tunnel to clear."

Ten minutes later, our group left the station. Fifteen men and women ready to make their home safer.

The portion of the tunnel was quiet and clear which made us easily get through it, but when we entered the second portion, we got stuck.

In front of us stood wreckage that even if we would like to clear, we don't have the means to do it. Train wreckage and debris of that size need special tools to be cut and removed.

"Sir, what do we do now?"

"Get back to the station, we can't get through this mess without collapsing the entire tunnel or at least a big portion of it."

"Understood, sir. Should we leave two people here? To guard the place?"

"No need for that. The zombies won't be able to crawl through the wreckage so it's pointless to leave men behind to guard a dead end. Let's get back home, drinks on me guys."

Hearing that they can drink alcohol for the first time in a while, all of them become excited. While in training, no one was allowed to drink alcohol which led to a huge stockpile of alcohol just sitting in our storage.

When we returned home, all of the people that stayed behind were confused. They didn't understand why would we come back so fast. When I explained that the tunnel was blocked by wreckage, they understood that there wasn't any possible way for us to continue our expedition.

With the fact that the tunnel is blocked, our expedition was designated as a failure even if we didn't have anything to do with the blockage.

For the rest of the day, most of the people decided to party and drink as a sign of relaxation while I, Paul, Olivia, and Andrew brainstormed for half a day thinking about what should we do next.

One idea was to dig in the wall expanding the station, but this idea comes with a bunch of dangerous conclusions. In the first place, no one knows how to safely expand the station. Digging was a way of expanding, but digging without knowing the right way, can collapse the whole thing on our heads.

Andrew suggested that we should try and find a new place to call home as the metro station won't remain the safest base forever. As we need fuel to run the whole facility and slowly, but surely we will exhaust the remaining fuel. Another problem will be food production as we will need food to survive and scavenging for food won't help us in the long run.

Paul and Olivia looked over the maps that we managed to save, hoping to pinpoint where we could settle down and at the same time defend ourselves from any danger that we may face.

After hours of thinking and suggesting ideas and locations, we decided to scout an old fire station in the woods. Somewhere inside the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. Normally you wouldn't be able to settle down there, but now that there ain't no government left, this place would become the perfect home for a bunch of survivors.

"Tomorrow, I'll take a group with me and scout the place. We don't know what to expect there and if by some dumb luck, we find the fire station, we will remain the night there."

"It is dangerous to sleep there without having the whole perimeter safe or watched by guards. We don't know what we should expect from a forest. Zombies and mutant zombies are normal occurrences, but what if the animals also mutated?"

"I don't think so, at least not yet. I hope not, we have enough problems with the zombies and if you add mutated wildlife in the mix, the human race would surely go extinct."
