65 Chapter 65

[Third Person's PoV]

Cid Kagenou was standing in an Arena, with almost the whole student body in the crowd watching.

In front of him, Rose Oriana with her sword drawn and in a fighting position, her eyes locked in on Cid's positioning, studying and anticipating his first move.

As for why they're in an arena about to fight each? The answer is simple, it's close to the day of The God of War festival begins. So the school holds a competition to decide and judge who would be worthy to be their representative.

Cid, who casually had a sword resting on his shoulder, had no expression on his face. His eyes just stared into Rose's awaiting for the match to begin.

Alexia, who was the spokesperson for the competition was seen in a both with papers in her hands announcing the start of the competition

"The time has come for the God of War tournament. Dear participants, do your best while upholding the virtues of a spellsword. And please be mindful of injuries.

It's time for our first bout. SECOND YEAR ROSE ORIANA Vs. FIRST YEAR CID KAGENOU."

As Alexia announces both of them, the whole crowd goes wild. They all kept encouraging both Cid and Rose.

"Wooooah! Go lady Rose!"

"You can win this dark prince!"

"Win! Win! Win!"

Cid and Rose just continued to stare at each in the eyes, ignoring the shouts of the crowd and as they stared Rose made the first move. She enhanced herself with her magic and shot herself towards Cid kicking up dust in the process.

Cid didn't even move, he just continued to look her in the eyes, without any change in his expression. To the untrained eyes it would just look like Rose is too fast and Cid isn't quick enough to react.

When Rose swung her sword the sound of metal clashing reverberated throughout the entire arena, sparks flew due to the contact of their sword.

Rose went wide eyed when she saw Cid casually defend her strike, seeing that her first attack failed she didn't relent, she kept swinging her sword in a fast manner, with each strike the more sparks flew.

Cid unexpectedly kicked her in the stomach, sending her flying back. Due to the force she had to insert her sword into the ground to slow herself down.

As she knelt, she stood up withdrawing her sword from the ground and got into a fighting position once again

'He's strong! I heard he was, but I thought those were just exaggerations. This is going to be fun…' she thought while looking at Cid with an excited expression.

The next she blinked, Cid disappeared from her view and reappeared in front of her with a small smirk and casually swung his sword.

'Fast!'

Due to how fast and unexpectedly he appeared Cid managed to create a slash mark in arm.

Swing went and swung again but this time she was able to react and managed to block it. Cid kept Swinging and Swinging and Swinging and Swinging, And Swinging his sword at her, with each swing becoming faster and faster.

Multiple marks kept appearing all over her body. 'He's too skilled!, am I seriously going to lose?' She thought to herself while trying and successfully blocking some of Cid's attacks.

Seriousness and determination grew in her eyes 'NO! There's no way I'm going to lose, I didn't come all the way from my kingdom to make a fool of myself. Here and Now I'll surpass my limits!'

'What should I have for lunch today?' Cid thought while swinging his sword and watching Rose defend herself.

Rose then started enhancing herself with even more Magic and went into the assault, she parried one of Cid's sword strikes and started trying to attack him.

But Cid was able to block all of them, Cid's expression then grew serious.

Rose seeing his seriousness smiled and thought to herself 'Good, it looks like he's taking me seriously and is having trouble defending'

'Should I get Fried Chicken or Pizza to eat later on, It's been a while since I ate them. I haven't really taken the time to enjoy food since I don't really have to eat anymore.'

Rose tried to kick Cid but he managed to grab her leg and flung her across the arena to the other side.

'Let's see if I can make her learn anything in just a short amount of time…' Cid thought and looked at Rose with a playful smirk.

When Rose landed she adjusted her positioning and looked towards Cid, when she saw his playful expression she lowered her posture and started charging her legs up with Magic Power.

While Cid just lowered his head slightly for theatrics. They both shot towards each other and meant towards the middle where their swords clash.

Dust blasted everywhere due to their force and magic while they just stared at each other while pressing their swords together trying to gain an advantage… or at least that's what it looked like to everyone else.

'He's not… he's not taking this seriously!' Rose's eyes grew wide when she felt their confrontation.

She looks at Cid with their swords pressing against each other to see if he has anything to say about it but he just continues smirking while giving her a wink.

Cid breaks their confrontation and starts attacking all of her weak points. With each sword strike Rose learns to guard her weak points even if they took a few tries. And the longer the fight goes the more she can sense what is going on.

'Is he… Is he trying to teach me?' she thought while looking at everything that is going on objectively.

After a few move exchanges, Rose figures it out 'He is! But why? Why would he go out of his way to teach me? What does he get out of all of this?'

Throughout all this time Cid never stopped making eye contact with Rose, which was something she picked up.

It was thanks to that that she was able to come up with a reason, that was most likely after going through all other reasons 'I see I got it now, it all makes sense… he's in love with me.'

'The way he doesn't avoid eye contact, the way he's teaching me, he's not going all out because he's afraid he'll hurt me… Cid huh I'll make sure to remember his name'

Cid then backed away slightly, he dropped down and swept her feet completely catching her off guard and making her drop to the ground.

He goes and disarms her, puts a foot on her hand where her sword previously was and points his sword under her chin and right on her neck.

Rose was tried and was breathing heavily on the ground, she looked up at Cid who was just looking down on her with a small smile, the sun shining directly behind him, making him look dazzling.

'He's pretty handsome…' Rose thought with a blush on her cheeks.

"And The winner for the first bout of this competition is–"

"I FORFEIT!" Cid said enhancing his voice with magic so everyone could hear him.

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT" The whole Arena shouted. That was a beautiful fight, everyone pretty much thought.

Even Alexia was shocked by this. She made sure of what she was hearing "Umm excuse What? What do you mean you're forfeiting? Why? You were just about to become the winner of this bout!" She said over the speakers.

Cid stopped pressing his foot on Rose's hand, and offered his hand to help her up, which she gratefully took.

When he helped her up he put his sword back on his sheath and started walking out with both of his hands resting on the back of his head.

"Guess I don't want to be a representative, that seems like a lot of work I don't want to do, it could be someone else's problem. I just joined to have a Fun and entertaining fight, which I just had. So there's no reason for me to stay any longer"

Cid just continued walking while waving a hand saying bye, without even looking back.

Rose just kept watching Cid's retreating back with a pondering expression and a hand on her chin 'Did he forfeit because of me? He loves me so much that he was willing to give up all the fame and glory he would have gotten and no doubt achieved… oh Cid'

Rose thought while putting a hand on her heart 'No one has been willing to ever give up that much just for me' the blush on Rose's face grew

Meanwhile Cid made up his mind on what he was going to eat later one 'Why not have both? I don't have to choose! Choosing is for the weak!'
