"Lucille! Stop running!" Henry said behind me, panting. Somehow, I had run so far, I had exited the school and just ran into the woods. I don't even know how. I had stopped running so fast, I ran into a tree and crashed. It hurt like heck and when Henry caught up to me, I was rubbing my head.
"Why did you run off like that?" Henry basically yells at me.
"It was all too much and I don't feel comfortable in big crowds. I never have. And how the hell did I run from school into the middle of the woods in like 30 seconds?!?!?"
Henry looks down at the ground and says to himself, "Oh, you've already accessed your running strength." Then he looks at me and says, "Anything else strange happen?"
"Well I'm very good at math and now can run far distances in little times. And also, what is going on with everyone's ears here?" He looks at me like I'm crazy for asking that question.
"Have you ever read a fantasy book in your life? Or anything like that?"
"Of course I have. What does that have to do with anything?"
"You know, long ears, super speed, and some powers?"
I put two and two and two together and realize. "OMG you guys are elves! Wait, but I thought that was only in fantasy books. Are werewolves and witches real too?"
"No, of course not. Don't be stupid. Those aren't real. Only elves."
I'm still confused so I ask another question. "How do humans not find out about you guys?"
Henry looked right at me and said, "No one even knows this town exists. If anyone did, then we would get tested or a scientist would come and do stuff to use. So the most powerful elves use their powers to hide us and our people. Now, you might not know this but I think that you are a elf."
I just laughed and said, "Wouldn't I realize if I was an elf? And wouldn't that mean my mom was an elf?"
"No, not necessarily. You could be a changeling."
"A changeling? What does that mean?"
Henry laughed and said, "It means the same thing as in the rest of fantasy books. Your 'mother' had a normal child and then you got switched out with that child."
I know that makes sense, but I still had one more question. "What happened to the other child?"
"She went to a orphanage and got adopted. And she is now in another family."
