"Alex, wait!"
My chest heaved as I sprinted throughout campus. I giggled and took a sharp right while the others tried catching up.
"Jesus, he's a bloody rat with wings."
"Oh, come on, Luis. Shut up and run, will ya?"
Luis was a big mouth, yet he was quite popular when it came to political debates within our school. He was the president of six different clubs and was ranked "Top Five'' for academics. He was handsome and slipped through every punishment with a wink or fanning himself shirtless. Yes, he was a ladies man. However, when the time came for confessions he rejected everyone. Except for one boy, who eventually broke up with him and transferred to a different area. He was a nice kid, tall, and extremely respectful. I believe his name was Jackson, or was it James? Oh Whatever, either way, Luis was known for trouble.
Now Yoon, the one who replied to Luis, was the opposite. He was calm and tactical. Although he was also ranked in the "Top Five" Yoon was the nerd type. Always studying, locking himself up reading and writing. He rarely ate and hid within the library during lunch or after school. Unfortunately, we were the ones who dragged him out and tossed him into the sunlight. In the beginning he would hustle and fight back, yet over time, he eventually went with it.
Then there was me, Alex. I was the adventures type. I was either climbing a tree, hunting a worm, singing with birds, or, well you get the idea. I, too, was given a place in the "Top Five'' for I was actually smart. At least, my test scores said so. In most cases my friends were the ones finding me while I was fiddling with mud. You see, I lose track of time. I get caught up in my own exploration and usually run late for class. My mother has gotten multiple complaints from my teachers yet she hangs up and takes matters into her own hands. In short, she scolds me. It got to the point that she gave up and said it was fine if my grades were up. Thus, here I am now. Running through campus like a madman.
I scattered up three flights of stairs, a right, two lefts, a window, then a door that led me to the boys locker room. I glanced around, making sure I wasn't followed. I chuckled and leaned up against a wall and sighed with satisfaction.
I sucked in a shot of air and closed my eyes smiling, "Fools."
"As if."
My body jumped as I faced the left. There they were. Luis was hunched over gasping while Yoon ran some fingers through his hair; annoyed with my tactics. I laughed in defeat. I raised my hands and walked over with a smile.
"Alright, I'll give you that. Six for you, Four for me?"
Yoon patted my shoulder, "Eh, sure. But you owe me lunch."
Luis glanced upward and smirked weakly. I rubbed his head, "What's the long face? Gotten too fast for ya?"
He shook his head and stood up. His index finger and thumb pinched the center of his noise. "Shad'up Alex, you're like a freakin puppy. Hyper yet a pain in the ass."
We broke into laughter. As we headed out the locker room we gave a few shoves and horsed around a bit. Eventually we agreed to head towards class.
But something was wrong, very wrong.
