City of Gaza- Gaza Strip
Willing to hide his face, he put on the hood of his coat. The relatively cool day allowed taking that precaution without attracting attention. He entered the network of alleys devastated by the latest Israeli bombings, which in turn originated in retaliation for the launch of the Qassam rockets and others of Russian origin by Hamas militiamen on the territory of the State of Israel, with considerable human losses for both sides.
Zev was born and raised in the Gaza Strip and at the age of twenty-five he knew of no other life or place in the world. Apparently just one more Palestinian in the eyes of the world, his ethnic origins and his upbringing given by his Jewish grandmother had marked other loyalties.
The half-ruined houses and collapsed walls were part of the usual landscape and something that would be made oppressively demoralizing for an outsider was totally usual for him.
