Dreaming

I am dreaming now. Am I? I know I'm dreaming, but it feels so real! I'm in a strange place, unknown, but familiar at the same time. It's dark, so I can't see anything, except for the glowing butterflies guiding my way. I hear waves crashing against something. Perhaps rocks? I feel the warm, strong wind against my body and I smell something sweet, but don't recognize the scent, a fruit or a flower. I think I'm on a beach, but it doesn't smell like the ocean's water.

I keep walking until my legs are soaked in water. I gasp and flinch as I walk into the water and see the water glowing. I shake my feet and I am able to see the bottom of the shore. I am mesmerized by the beauty of all the things surrounding me under the water. Then, I see him.

I have seen that boy before. He can't be much older or younger than me, maybe a few years younger. He has been in my dreams and I have followed him, but every time I meet him something or someone interrupts my dreams, and we can't talk. He stands far away from me and he shakes his hands in the water, drawing circles around his body, half submerged into the sea.

His bare chest is exposed and his head is down, so I can't see his face. I keep walking forward to meet him, because somehow I know I'm supposed to make contact with him. He is hairless and has no ears. He continues to move his hands so he can illuminate himself with the glowing water, and waits for me to get closer. He doesn't look at me. He bows his head, no matter how close I get to him.

I stand in front of him and I hesitate to speak. When I stop walking, I keep moving my hands in the water the way he does, so we can see each other. There's silence, except for the sounds of the water and the wind. Just as I am working up the courage to speak to the boy, he speaks, startling me. I flinch and gasp. His voice is not deep, but it carries weight, and his words flow as smooth as the water between my fingers.

"Are you frightened? Please, do not fear me", he says, still looking down. "May I see your face, please?" I ask. "If you wish to, my Lady", he says, placing a hand over his heart and slowly lifting his head, still, without looking at me straight into my eyes. "May I look at you?" He asks me. "Yes… yes! You can", I say to him, feeling confused and excited.

His eyes lock on mine and I can't help but sigh. He stays steady, just moving his hand in the water. I stop moving mine. I am in awe at the sight in front of me. The boy is tall, dark skinned, hairless, no eyebrows, no eyelashes, has two orifices for ears and his eyes, whoa, his eyes! They are absolutely captivating. They are ocean blue, almost gray, so clear, like the water we are in now. His eyes are huge! He can sense my shock, so he doesn't move or speak, he just stares at me.

"What's your name?" I ask. He seems startled by my question, but pleased that I didn't run away the minute I was able to take a good look at him. "Kenúd, I am Kenúd, my Lady Andreamaba, your half brother." All of the sudden the ground starts shaking and he looks up. The sky lights up and it's no longer night time. "Go, you're in danger. Don't let them take the book from you!"

I open my eyes and see Nina getting the book, but before she walks away with it, I snatch it from her hands. "What are you doing? This is not yours!" I yell at her, holding the book tightly against my chest, while I stand up. "Sorry", she says to me, looking at Wolfy, and walking away. She looks scared. "I was just going to set it on the table for you, you looked uncomfortable. I guess you fell asleep with it", Nina explains.

What was she doing watching me sleep?

"How did you get in my room? I remember locking the door!" Before I have a chance to question Nina some more, my cell phone rings. I get it and Nina takes advantage of the interruption to get out of my bedroom, without answering me. Blake's name flashes on my cell phone's screen. How did he get my number? I never gave it to him. When I answer the phone, he tells me I am in danger.

"Drea, you need to get out of your house now! Meet me at the spot you take the school bus." Blake ends the call before I can even ask him anything. I try to call back but he doesn't answer. My heart is racing now! I hear loud noises downstairs and get scared, because the Flores are not supposed to be here for a few hours.

I gather the courage to get to the door. The noises get louder as I come out of my bedroom and walk through the hallway, slowly, not wanting to see. I know it is happening again, the chaos that follows me everywhere. I must check what's going on, even though I am terrified to find out.

When I start heading downstairs I see Laura and Nina fighting. My eyes cannot believe what I see. They fight each other with rage and precision. Their skills are beyond my imagination. Martial Arts falls short! I have never seen this type of fighting style or weapons! I am petrified at the sight of it.

Why is Laura here and how do they know how to fight like this? Laura is holding a sword that lights up and vibrates. I can hear the vibration, it almost sounds like a bass when she swings it viciously at Nina. Nina is able to block her and moves quickly, jumping really high over the furniture. She grabs a lamp and hits Laura in the head with it, and Laura falls on the floor, but still manages to hit Nina with the sword, making her fall with her.

Laura is able to recuperate rapidly, and she stands up. I scream when I see Laura on top of Nina. Is she trying to kill her? "No! Stop! Stop it, you two!" I yell desperately while running down the stairs, breathlessly, to reach them. My plan is to try to break the fight when I get to them. Laura sees me and stands in front of me. "You need to come with me right now!" She says, her tone demanding! I cannot believe this is the same Laura who is desperately friendly, annoyingly cheerful and sweet to me at school.

I freeze, looking at Nina laying on the floor, trembling uncontrollably, unable to move, for some reason. Her glossy eyes are fixed on me and she wants to say something but she can't even speak. I step back, walking away from Laura, feeling incredibly terrified of her and impotent at the fact I am no match for whatever skills she possesses. Then, I hear a deep growl coming from behind me.

Goosebumps down my neck and a sensation of motion sickness overpowers me. I fear to look back, not knowing the origin of the wild sound. "Leave", the creature behind me says with a raspy, deep voice. When I dare to look back I see the strangest creature I have never seen in real life, a wolf mixed with a horse! Its intimidating eyes are fixed on Laura and Nina. I feel weak, all the strength from my body drained! I know I'm going to faint, but just before I hit the floor and close my eyes, I see Blake breaking into the house… then, shooting at Laura with some type of laser gun.
