Chapter 36: Last Stand

Returning to Emanda, the butterfly carrying her was shot down but she was still alive but with wounds all over her body. Only she and a few wizards remained alive to cast the spell that sealed the Nightmare Tree. Emanda cast spells while fighting the monsters that were frantically rushing around her. Emanda was one of the most talented wizards on the continent and she was not easily defeated, she created a large magic circle around her and knelt down to rest for a while. The monsters that touched the magic circle were immediately burned, they kept their troops outside waiting for an opportunity to counterattack. Emanda looked over at her sisters, one by one being slain by the monsters. With no time to cry or grieve, Emanda stood up and said:

"Who needs an Elemental Spirit when I'm the most powerful wizard in history."

Emanda adjusted her hat, took a bottle of Elf wine from her pocket, and emptied the bottle in one gulp. She wiped her mouth and raised her hands to create a large magic circle with runes of light magic. Emanda happily said aloud:

"Behold, the pinnacle of pure light magic!"

The magic circle created white energy lines in the ground and spread to the roots of the Nightmare Tree, which pierced the ground and burrowed into the tree's roots. The energy lines continue to ascend along the trunk and wrap the Nightmare Tree like threads of diminishing power. The other talented wizards also stood up and joined Emanda to continue the work of sealing the Nightmare Tree. They tried to stay in formation so Eculida and Zenhector could defeat Halazar. In the top of the Nightmare Tree, Eculida and Halazar looked at each other with tension and hatred. Eculida summoned her weapon Creation Orb Balance(It was a small white orb and outside were floating blue energy lines. On the energy lines were symbols of all creatures in the world. This was possibly one of the most powerful weapons in the history). Halazar smirked and said:

"Now do you think you can defeat me with that weapon? My ultimate power is too great for anyone to stop. Soon the dark power of the Nightmare Tree will bring an end to Highland Continent."

Eculida replied:

"I won't let that happen, the power of light will end the power of darkness forever. If we don't, there are still young warriors who will continue the battle and end it."

Halazar arrogantly said:

"Enough talk, shall we begin?"

Zenhector replied excitedly:

"Why didn't you tell me sooner, I really want to fight."

Zenhector put Gilgamesh axe on his shoulder. Eculida knelt to pray:

"O God Horux, help me in this decisive battle..."

Zenhector said dejectedly:

"Really? Praying now?"

Halazar flew to Zenhector and Eculida and swung his sword at them. Eculida immediately stood up and fired an energy net in the orb and bound Halazar. Zenhector jumped up and swung his axe down but Halazar turned his body into a shadow and moved away from Zenhector's attack. Halazar backed down and stood up, firing a dark beam at Zenhector. He dodged quickly and said contemptuously:

"You missed the shot."

The dark beam that flew to the end was bounced back and hit Zenhector in the back. He said angrily:

"Very well, but we're just getting started."

Halazar laughed wickedly and continued to shoot more dark beams at Zenhector and Eculida. The missed beams would bounce back and hit them, but Eculida was able to create a cloak of light around their bodies to protect them. Zenhector swung his hand and instantly dozens of boulders flew into the place where they were fighting and slammed into Halazar. Halazar immediately blocked them with a dark barrier. Zenhector lunged forward and swung his axe at Halazar, but the blade cut through his body and penetrated like rubber. Zenhector said angrily:

"You bastard!"

Halazar fired a dark beam into Zenhector's chest, knocking him out. Eculida unleashed sea creature spirits that attacked Halazar from many directions. Halazar also unleashed black shadow bats to fight back. Halazar surreptitiously shot a dark beam as small as a needle at Eculida. She gently took the needle and said:

"Just an ordinary trick."

Zenhector stood up and swung his axe and launched an earth slash at Halazar. Halazar swung his sword and unleashed dark claws to block Zenhector's attack. Zenhector dragged his axe to the ground and swung the axe up and threw dirt into Halazar's eyes, blinding him. Zenhector rushed forward and punched Halazar in the face, then arrogantly said:

"Haha, is that all you have? A sly king with no strength or muscles."

Eculida hastily stopped Zenhector:

"Zenhector, stop!"

Halazar snapped his fingers and called to The Dark, he obeyed the command and whipped his tail to repel The Light and then crawled to the Nightmare Tree. The Dark bent around the tree trunk to go up and The Light chased behind. The Dark rushed to the top of the tree and sprayed poison at Zenhector. Zenhector immediately dodged and then threw axe at The Dark and hit the snake in the head. Halazar launched darkness at Zenhector but he crossed his arms to defend himself. Eculida launched an energy whip that hooked Gilgamesh axe and threw it at Zenhector. Zenhector instantly caught his axe and swung it sideways to block the dark beam. The Light pulled The Dark back and launched light beams from the wings into the cobra's hood. The Dark sprayed a slime liquid that stuck to The Light's eyes, rendering it unable to see anything. The Dark headbutted The Light away and then whipped its tail that hit The Light into sharp rocks. The Light was wounded in its wings and The Light lunged forward and opened its mouth to reveal its sword-like teeth. The Dark lunged forward and bit The Light, but the dragonfly dodged. The Dark retracted its head and bit the other side of The Light, but the dragonfly dodged it. The Light turned its middle legs into a blade of light and slashed at The Dark, causing it to hurt and recede. The Light landed on the ground and prepared to fight again. The Dark roared and charged at The Light. The Light flew up and charged at The Dark. The Light flew around behind The Dark and used its wings to fold into the face of the cobra to blind it. The Light pushed The Dark to hit its head against a stone wall, stunning it. The boulder fell, so The Light flew back and let the boulder crush The Dark. The Dark became enraged and rose, firing acid balls at The Light. The Light dodged quickly but was hit by an acid ball in the left wing. The acid spread, melting The Light's left hindwing, so it immediately burned the acid with the light emitted on the wings. The Light hissed and pointed its tail at The Dark, it shot light orbs at the cobra. The Dark was shot back, it quickly crawled down to dodge and approach The Light. The Light shot relentlessly at The Dark and the cobra shot up and bit the dragonfly's wound. The Dark pulled The Light down hard and smashed it to the ground and tore the wound on its left hindwing. The Light hastily stabbed the blade on his left middle leg into The Dark's hood, causing it to painfully retract the hood. The Light pushed The Dark away with its tail and launched a beam of light from its tail at the cobra. The Dark burned on its body so it temporarily retreated. The Light stopped firing and shook its head wearily. The Light was temporarily unable to fly, so it switched to killing small monsters at its feet. The Dark ate hordes of monsters to recover its dark energy. A drop of its drool fell, melting the stone. Back to the main battle, things were still going very fiercely, Halazar and Zenhector slashed each other in midair, the Dark Elf king also kept dodging Eculida's light beams. He scornfully said:

"Is that all? You pride yourself on being the strongest."

Eculida replied:

"We are the strongest of the old era, this era already has stronger people."

Zenhector swung his axe and hit Halazar in the stomach, but it didn't hurt him. Zenhector was furious and said:

It slammed into Halazar's chest in his surprise. Eculida continued to raise the Balance orb and shot into the air aiming at Halazar. Halazar's right shoulder was bleeding, he looked closely and wondered:

"An air beam. Instead of firing a light beam, she creates an air beam by squeezing the air, forcing it to launch rapidly. An attack no one can see."

Halazar continued to suffer many air beams that he couldn't see and was unable to dodge. Halazar spat out blood and said:

"Haha, it's powerful. But that's enough, the hour has come. The Dark!"

The Dark heard Halazar's command, it instantly crawled towards the Nightmare Tree. The Dark opened its hood and roared and then it shot up and hit its head where its master was standing. The Dark sprayed acid at Zenhector and Eculida to protect Halazar. They quickly dodged but Zenhector got acid on his left hand and his hand slowly rotted. Zenhector was in pain and said angrily:

"Damn it! You bastard!"

Zenhector then severed his left arm, which turned into a pile of slime. Zenhector said:

"You're weak enough to call the elemental spirits here to help you?"

Halazar replied:

"So you don't know yet? I'm preparing to eat the whole Continent."

Zenhector said in confusion:

"Eat? You only have the Nightmare Tree, you have nothing."

Halazar smiled evilly and replied:

"I have everything, the power of Newlaphaine kingdom's strongest light, more or less it is more than enough to start a gigantic unstoppable invasion. The whole Highland Continent will be mine, under the absolute power of Halazar. Over hundreds of years of sacrificing power and blood to the Nightmare Tree, the ancestors are calling for a purge, a purge of light, and instead the enthronement of darkness. Where power is the only goal, the strongest is the one who has all, the weak must be the slaves of the victory. Not only the Highland Continent, the outside kingdoms have to bow under my darkness."

Zenhector looked into Halazar's eyes, those dark and deep eyes, the eyes of an emotionless man who liked to touch anyone's deepest places to manipulate his emotions, the eyes of someone who stood above all. Along with that was a confident face, without any anxiety or a little discolouration. Halazar smiled wickedly, he thought:

"Eculida is easily stunned and haunted by one of my questions. As long as she is no longer able to fight, I have grasped the victory."

Zenhector stepped forward with a mighty face, only one right arm left but he wouldn't stop fighting. Zenhector strongly said:

"What are you babbling about? What power is everything and we have to bow to you. I, former king of Sandx kingdom, Zenhector Corput want to tell you that no matter what you say and what evil intentions you have. Fuck it! Bring it all!"

Halazar looked a bit surprised, he said:

"Aren't you afraid? You can't defeat me, Zenhector. The expansion of darkness is about to begin."

Zenhector replied:

"What expansion? If it touches my kingdom then I'll do everything to stop it. Eculida, you said only the two of us can stop Halazar right? So let's do it together."

Eculida looked at Zenhector, she replied in concern:

"He's right, we've lost all our chances. Halazar is getting too strong, we've lost all our chances."

Zenhector strongly said:

"Chance my ass. If we want to win, don't use the very boundary of light and darkness to confront each other. No matter which side we're on, neither side is really good. I used to be a warlike warrior and saw strength as everything to defeat traitors. But when I look at the young people of this age, we know that it's not just their strength, their potential is what helps them win. We all have potential and when we awaken that hidden potential, we can truly win. Zenhector and The Berserker merged and he transformed into his most powerful form, the Ancient Destroyer form. Zenhector was topless, on his shoulders were the large and thorny shoulder armor with the big gorilla hands of The Berserker, he wore heavy leg armor with gorilla paws for faster movement, on his chest was a tattoo about the history of the Sandx kingdom and behind him was a large cloak with the symbol of his axe and a huge golden halo to show him like a god. Zenhector raised the Champion axe in front of Eculida and said calmly:

"I don't care what you did wrong but you brought us here for this battle so let's fight until we win!"

Zenhector's brave words awakened Eculida from fear and stress, the words of a human before the power of nightmarish darkness. Eculida stood up and said:

"The Light! Merge with me!"

The Light obeyed orders and flew to the Nightmare Tree. Eculida and The Light merged and she transformed into her Shining Savior form. Eculida wore a very long Elf queen dress with natural textures and white feathers around the neckline, dragonfly wings on her back, she had two extra hands underneath and held a second Balance orb in her right hand, Eculida's hair grew long and spread down her back. Eculida said:

"Hit my psyche, it's dangerous, Halazar. But I will still fight to stop your expansion!"

Eculida said calmly:

"We are the first line of defense against you, but we are not easily defeated."

Halazar laughed scornfully at them, he looked outside and saw Elastor, Grim and Belle fighting the monsters together. Halazar said:

"Our children are fighting monsters, Eculida. If their last stand fails, I will turn them into the worst nightmare version they have always feared. Transform me, Nighmare tree! Give me all your power!"

The Nightmare Tree glowed a dark purple then oozed the darkness and released the nightmarish darkness. The monsters suddenly retreated towards the Nightmare Tree, Elastor looked in that direction and said:

"What are they going to do?"

Belle replied:

"I don't know, but we have more people to evacuate. Let's go."

They continued to evacuate the Dark Elves from the kingdom. Zed cleared the way for them out of the Forest of Nightmares and said:

"Run to Newlaphaine castle, it's safe there."

Suddenly the black ground beneath their feet began to expand, and Zed said angrily:

"Damn it! Bring fire!"

The warriors brought oil and fire to the forest, they poured oil around where they were fleeing and lit a fire, temporarily the forest would not expand. Everyone gathered, Elastor said:

"How's the situation?"

Zed replied:

"We're a few more people out of the Lanxter kingdom. But the problem is that Halazar has some evil plan. Eculida, Zenhector's battle with Halazar is still going on."

Suddenly the dark land expanded even further and overcame the fire they burned. Elastor hastily said:

"Quick, quickly pull down."

The last one ran out of the magical border to the Newlaphaine kingdom. Zed launched darkness and Elastor released lightning to prevent the land from expanding further. Eva shot arrows of light so that the light repels the darkness. Lamalia created a stone wall and Belle grew vines on the wall to block the dark land. Eva told Elastor:

"Elastor! What about Master Emanda and the leaders therein?"

Elastor replied:

"Calm down, we have to make sure everyone is safe first. They'll be fine, they're the strongest of the Highland Continent."

The final stage of the battle between the strongest had begun. Halazar absorbed all the nightmarish darkness of the Nightmare Tree, The Dark slowly merged with the darkness and with Halazar. Zenhector released golden aura with black lightning bolts around him and Eculida released blue and white mixed aura around her. The monsters lunged forward and fused their bodies with the Nightmare Tree, infusing it with the blood of those they killed. Halazar had slowly transformed into a monster that fused with the Nightmare Tree and used The Dark's body as a model. Zenhector and Eculida flew out of the Nightmare Tree, and Eculida said to Emanda:

"Emanda! Create a magic wall around the Nightmare Tree for me, now it's no longer possible to weaken the Nightmare Tree, we have to actually destroy it."

Emanda nodded and together with her sisters performed magic protection over a large area, a giant magic wall was quickly built but also took a lot of their health. Tired Emanda says:

"Hurry up Eculida, we can't hold out any longer."

The monster Halazar was gradually formed, the giant of the Nightmare Tree gradually transformed into a dark creature, all the branches and thorns changed into claws and thorns on the monster's body. Crusadia team all heard its roar, Grim said:

"What is that sound?"

Belle replied:

"I don't know, but that thing comes from within the Haunted Mountain."

Zed felt the serpent's dark power making him sweat, Zed said nervously:

"This power of darkness? I haven't reached this power yet. The thing inside has absorbed so much darkness that I can't even imagine what it is."

Everyone became worried and pressured when they heard Zed's words because they knew Zed was the strongest on the team but he was worried with the terrible power in the Haunted Mountain. Zed joked:

"Just kidding, I feel normal with that power of darkness."

Everyone got angry and immediately kicked Zed in the face at the same time. Zed sat up with a swollen face and painfully said:

"Ouch, again? But what's inside is terrible, it's probably Halazar or something worse than him."

Everyone looked anxiously at the Haunted Mountain. Returning to Halazar, he laughed and said:

"So this is the invincible power, oh it's perfect, the gift of darkness. This power is mine, and I'll make sure you're all gone."

Zenhector replied excitedly:

"So what's even more interesting, it's something I want to chop to death."

Eculida said calmly:

"Remember Halazar, the Balance orb is the most powerful summoning weapon. All the spirits of all the creatures in the world are stored by it, and under my power I will release their powers. The aquatic animal spirits have been released, I have four more animal spirits that I haven't released yet."

Halazar replied cruelly:

"Let it begin, then, the Battle of the Strongest. Rise, my ultimate power, The End Serpent."

Halazar released a black and purple aura around his body and stun the wizards, Emanda became too tense and pressured but she endured. Zenhector and Eculida lunge forward and attack Halazar and he launches tentacles at them. Zenhector swung his axe and unleashed slashes of earth that blew up the tentacles that attacked them. Eculida launched a series of magic arrows from the orb at Halazar, without stopping she swung her arms to explode all the arrows that did damage to the serpent's body. But its wounds were instantly healed by the darkness, the serpent roared and launched a huge beam of darkness at Zenhector and Eculida, they instanly dodged and the beam of darkness destroyed part of the Haunted Mountain. Everyone outside saw the beam go by, they were startled, Julia said:

"What the hell just shot out?"

Zed replied:

"Enough, we have to go. We can't just wait like this."

At this time, the dark land was spreading, the plants and trees where they passed were all dead and lifeless. Elastor said:

"But we should also keep the others safe from Halazar's expansion, let's do that first."

Zed replied:

"Okay, then the biggest monster will be mine."

Everyone nodded and dispersed to do different things. Elastor unleashed a series of lightning bolts down and destroyed a wide area. Zed gently walked and absorbed the darkness around him, he thought to himself:

Eva created a big balls of light and threw it into the dark land to repel the darkness. As for Grim, well, Grim couldn't do nothing but released a lot of smoke. Grim was pissed of with the author's words and said angrily:

"Hey! I'm making sure my people are safe!"

Grim brought his people into the city. In Gloria kingdom, Urizen also brought his army to stop the dark land. With a green flame that could not be extinguished, the dark land could not touch the Gloria kingdom. Urizen looked at the dark land and said:

"Halazar has gone crazy. Eva, you should handle this yourself."

Not because Urizen was afraid but because he was too lazy. The dark land tried to invade the desert of the Sandx kingdom but failed because it was too hot and burned the darkness. Everyone was working hard to repel the dark land. The warriors were also helping them to protect everything. Back to the main battle, the battle was more fierce. Halazar slammed his tentacles down at Zenhector, who used his two gorilla arms to block the blow. The two gorilla arms repeatedly punched the tentacle and destroyed it then Zenhector lunged forward and swung his axe and launched a slash of earth that hit the serpent's face. The serphent turned its back and launched thousands of beams of darkness from its spikes at Zenhector and Eculida. Zenehector rotated the axe and deflected the beams in many directions. Eculida created shields of light that shielded the beams. Zenhector continued to charge forward and swung his axe to slash at the serpent's body. Instead of blood coming out, what came out was a black liquid with a strong fishy odor. The serpent launched its tentacles to hit the ceiling of the cave, dropping boulders down. Zenhector with the power to control the earth immediately controlled the boulders and threw them all at the serpent. Eculida enchanted they launch faster and burned them into meteors. The serpent was repeatedly smashed by hundreds of meteors, it absorbed them and bounced back at Zenhector and Eculida. Zenhector swung his axe and destroyed all the incoming meteors creating a large and bright explosion. Zenhector and Eculida flew through the explosion and simultaneously delivered a powerful energy attack to the serpent's head. Zenhector and Eculida separated and continued to attack the serpent in multiple directions. Halazar and the serpent were stunned, he said:

"Very well, let's see how much longer you can hold out!"

The serpent released the darkness and launched black liquid from its spikes and tentacles around. Zenhector couldn't dodge, so he got black liquid on the right gorilla's arm, it slowly corroded that arm, so Zenhector immediately released the golden aura to burn the black liquid. Zenhector said aloud:

"Don't touch that black liquid, it will eat our flesh."

Eculida unleashed all the animal spirits of the sky so that they destroyed the black liquid in mid-air. Zenhector and Eculida went on to fight a fierce battle with Halazar. Emanda slowly stood up with the light power inside dwindling. She stretched out her hands and said aloud:

"Chain of Purification!"

The energy lines in Emanda's hand lit up, she created a magic circle and pressed it to the ground. Beneath the serpent appeared a circle of light around it, which released thousands of chains of light and bound all over the serpent's body. Eculida looked at Emanda below, Emanda said loudly:

"Quickly finish him, I won't be able to hold him for long by myself."

Eculida nodded and said to Zenhector:

"Listen, the serpent is temporarily held. We must end it now."

Zenhector and Eculida flew forward and flew from the tail to the serpent's body and head. They relentlessly unleashed hundreds of attacks all over the monster's body. Eculida continued to shoot multiple balls of light, beams of light on her wings and burning magic that didn't give the serpent time to recover. All attacks left a giant burn mark on the serpent's back causing it to roar in pain. Eculida flew over and smashed a ball of light at Halazar. She also didn't notice and got a strange mark on her dress. Zenhector and Eculida turned around and continued to attack the serpent in unison. Halazar and the serpent endured all their attacks, he thought cunningly:

"Wait, it's about time."

The battle continued and Emanda found it difficult to hold the serpent back. Outside, Crusadia team had also secured temporary safety, they prepared to re-enter the Lanxter kingdom. Zed tells everyone:

"Listen, we're going in there to save the survivors. Everyone ready?"

Everyone nodded. Their mini Elemental Spirits appeared on their shoulders, The Star said:

The members fused with their Elemental Spirits. Zed transformed into a half wolf with two tails form, Eva summoned Euphoria bow, Elastor transformed into Thunder Elf form, Julia summoned Rosing gauntlets, Grim transformed into half-hyena form, Belle summoned Athena Wand, Lamalia put on Rhino Armor. Zed said to Elastor:

"Hey, you owe us a lot to get you out."

Elastor replied:

"So what can I pay?"

Zed said excitedly:

Emanda was exhausted, she lay down and fainted from lack of energy. The chains weakened and the serpent released darkness easily destroyed the chains. Zenhector and Eculida rushed to attack it when the serpent released a dark explosion that repelled them. It continued to release another explosion to activate strange symbols on Zenhector and Eculida. They sucked strength into the serpent's mouth, Halazar laughed and said cunningly:

"I want to absorb more power, and it must be yours! Hahaha!"

Zenhector replied:

Zenhector and Eculida looked at each other and nodded, they couldn't fight anymore because they lost their power. Very quickly, Zenhector and Eculida were absorbed by Halazar and the serpent. Eculida said to Halazar:

"There is still a brighter light than me."

Halazar scornfully replied:

"Who? Belle? Then I'll absorb her too."

Eculida said dangerously:
