Chapter 21

Will stares me down in the main hall. He’s standing at a table with the other pack alphas. And his friend. Alpha Brooks is fidgeting in his seat while avoiding eye contact with everyone, but mainly Will’s sick-looking friend.

Behind me, all three packs sit for my hearing. My crime?

Ensuring Pike’s safety.

Will clears his throat to begin.

“Ellie. Would you mind telling everyone what happened?”

I would mind, actually. He’s already made up his mind. His friend will definitely back him up. I don’t know why he looks so familiar, but I hate it. Alpha Nera probably won’t make an immediate decision, but when she does I’m not confident it’ll be in my favour. Especially with the whole Leona incident last year.

“Well?”

“I did nothing wrong,” I state. “Pike felt unsafe, and so sought me out.”

Nera rolls her eyes.

“Oh please,” she scoffs. “That boy is afraid of everything.”
