His fingers, firm but teasing, gripped her waist, pulling her against his body. “Do you know what happens to those who defy me, little pet?” His voice was low, dripping with dark amusement. He leaned down, his lips hovering just above hers, close enough for her to feel his breath but not close enough to touch. “They beg.”Elysia’s pulse quickened, her breath catching as her body betrayed the fear melting into something far more dangerous. Her lips parted, but no words came out. "You're mine, Elysia, I will burn the world for you." She heard him say in a low growl, making her legs tremble more.

Hiding Something

Just then, a knock on the door made them pull apart abruptly, both staring at each other in confusion.

"I know you are in there, Lyra. Open the door."

A beat of silence passed between them as they froze, neither daring to move.

"If you don't open the door, I will break it down and force my way in," the person on the other side threatened.

Lyra jumped down from the table, quickly placing a finger on Sevastian's lips to stop him from speaking. She had hoped she was mistaken about the voice, but there was no denying it now. This was a terrible time for a visitor.

"Please, hide in the dresser. He must not see you here," she whispered, keeping her voice as low as possible.

Picking up Sevastian's shirt, she handed it to him and gently pushed him toward the dresser. "Forgive me," she said with a tight smile before closing the dresser doors, sealing him inside.

Another knock sounded at the door, this time louder and more insistent.
