Chapter 34: Barracks
We spend only half a day in the cells. By late afternoon, the guards return, opening our cages and attaching manacles to our wrists. Kam struggles against them, but is swiftly restrained with more chains and a muzzle.
We are escorted out of the mansion and shepherded into carriages. The guards sit next to us, silent the entire ride. I try to look out the window, but the curtains have been drawn, blocking out all but the strongest sunlight.
The trip is short, and I estimate we’re only just outside the city. The guards stand up, herding us out of the carriage and into a shaded area. I look around, and it appears we’re on the edge of the forest. There are large wooden towers erected around the area, with tall fencing stretching between each tower.
