Chapter 18

The first one to flee the scene was none other than Mack. Esecleus saw him running away, avoiding the police and the Hunter's Organization, but the guy did not stop him from getting away.

Esecleus seemingly reserved Mack for the incoming battle against the Light's Essence Guild controlled by Darius. He is saving Mack for the big feast he is about to devour in the next several days.

As the chaos in the docks continued with Esecleus overwhelmingly overpowering every enemy there is, Plexi managed to escape from his grasp a few minutes ago. He did not chase after her but chose to stay in the docks as Plexi began to get farther away from the scene.

Nevertheless, Esecleus effortlessly and one-sidedly apprehended the hunters while the leader of the group with a tattoo of a snake lynching a person under their eye remained alive.

"Everything is all over the place. Surely, I need to clean this mess by myself."

And the sole word "reset" came out of Esecleus' mouth and the previous events came flooding back to how they were earlier. From the time he hasn't arrived to the time he crashed the operation with his grand entrance.

"Someone smashed our car!"

"I feel a dangerous presence from that car of yours!"

Esecleus' presence was enough for Mack to flee the scene. He fumbled, staggered, and fell in his tracks yet he did not stop running away while everyone waited for the thick fog to clear up. But of course, policemen and Vice Chief Wright chose to chase after Mack while Marxia remained peeking through the holes in the warehouse's walls with Plexi.

Her eyes were wide open. Marxia had come back from the dead and she remembers everything that had happened before she bites the dust. And yeah, Marxia was well aware that Plexi would betray them, so she suddenly kept her distance by leaving the warehouse and standing under the bare moonlight.

"I need to watch my back!"

Marxia racked her brain to come up with a plan she will use against Plexi when she tries to execute her.

In a matter of seconds, the docks became the battlefield between two groups; the policemen and the illegal hunters lurking in the shadows.

Again, blood was shed and dead bodies piled up as the fight between the two squads got dangerous and wild. The tides were turned against the policemen when the appearance of the unlicensed hunters occurred.

They were easily massacred and pushed to the edge using the Unique Abilities they have, which were granted by an unknown phenomenon that occurred at the emergence of thresholds.

In a world of darkness and danger,

Where monsters lurk in the shadows,

A brave few rise up to protect us,

The fearless hunters of the night.

With weapons forged from silver and steel,

They track their quarry with unwavering eyes,

Facing death with each step they feel,

But never faltering, never shying.

For these are the heroes we need,

The guardians of our safety,

The brave and the bold, indeed,

The monster hunters of humanity.

So let us praise their name,

And thank them for their sacrifice,

For without them, we'd be lost,

To the terrors of the night.

If this was not the famous poem created by humanity when the so-called saviors of their land appeared to stand against the devastating force of otherworldly beings. However, these gifted individuals were also the cause of many deaths of innocent lives as they take their power for granted and use them for evil instead of behaving for their own.

In a world of chaos and destruction,

Where darkness reigns,

The ground beneath us crumbles,

And all hope seems lost.

With buildings falling and people crying out,

The sound of ruin is all around,

As the order is quickly fading,

And the world is consumed by despair.

But even in this madness,

A spark of hope remains,

As brave individuals rise to the challenge,

And fight for a better future.

So let us cling to that light,

And never give in to fear,

For though the path ahead is difficult,

We will endure, and overcome.

As the world was engulfed by wars and destruction, people got the strength to raise their morale with a single poem. But this does not mean that it stopped chaos and disturbance on Earth. It just helped hunters and people of no importance cling to the tiny glimmer of hope, which, fortunately, did not snap while monsters continued to wreak havoc across the globe.

"Marxia, wait for me!"

Plexi faked her actions. In order to fool Marxia, she acted weak and refined, like a shy woman afraid of interacting with the outside world.

Knowing Plexi's true nature, Marxia deliberately stopped for Plexi to enter her attack range. And like a bolt of lightning with her impeccable speed, Marxia swung her hand holding something Plexi could not see.

"Huh? Eh? Why is my vision suddenly moving upward?"

Unlike in movies where a person's blood gushes out like crazy, splatters, and sprays, Plexi's blood begins to drip out of her hacked neck. And her head barely hangs onto the tiny portion of flesh that was still holding itself together to avoid Plexi's head from rolling on the ground.

*Thud*

"You've got one hell of a big head that dragged you from falling to the ground," Marxia spat on Plexi's dead body. "Deception. It is a word that conjures images of betrayal, lies, and trickery. It is a poison that can seep into the hearts of even the most righteous men, and once it takes hold, it can destroy everything that we hold dear."

Although Plexi deserves it in Marxia's mind, she could not help but feel sympathy towards the woman because, in the end, they are just humans who are struggling to survive in the now dangerous world.

Thunderous sounds and explosions occur on the docks. Worried, Marxia immediately hurried to the place where Esecleus had every hunter threatened about their lives.

"Why is Esecleus wearing a disguise?"

It was the same disguise he had when he went around asking about Mack. When he was investigating the previous dealings that happened there several days ago. The perfectly normal disguise and the seemingly normal guy out of all the choices he had.

Because of that, Esecleus was the bad guy in everyone's eyes. Even from the policemen's point of view, Esecleus is a force that must be apprehended, for he possesses greater power than a normal human should not.

A plague to humanity as someone uttered under their breath. Although he seemed to be helping their side, the policemen can't help but think that someday, that man will turn against his own and wipe out their race.
