Working As Lord Maximilian's Servant

Edna came in to see everything in the kitchen. The kitchen was very traditional. The place was indeed an abandoned old mansion. However, behind all that, the kitchen had many types of ingredients with lots of piles of firewood.

It was also much cleaner than any other places in this mansion. Perhaps because the servants who worked before her maintained this kitchen well.

Edna didn't have much of a choice. She only took one slice of bread for herself. She didn't dare to take much because she was just a freeloader. Helping her hide and leave the kingdom had already made Edna feel very grateful. She didn't want to trouble Luca as well as Lord Maximillian.

Just one slice of bread and a glass of water certainly wouldn't make her full. However, that was more better than not eating at all.

After filling her stomach, Edna returned to her room. Out of habit, she had a hard time getting to sleep before past three in the morning. The memory of what happened last night made her shudder. Edna looked down at her clean hands. She never thought that she would do something like that.

She was a murderer. And Lord Maximilian was also a killer.

Even though both of them were criminals, Edna knew that she did it by accident, while what she saw at church this morning was the exact opposite. Lord Maximilian's old gaze frightened her. And the man came there with killing intent.

Still, how could he do it without blinking an eye? He even walked in the middle of the crowd after killing someone. He was not at all burdened with the lives he took. Meanhile, Edna had a hard time sleeping after killing someone with her own hands.

She knew she would be safe here. However, her subconscious felt a pang of deep guilt, making her have trouble relaxing.

At three in the morning, Edna finally slept soundly.

Edna woke up in the morning as usual. She looked at the servant uniform Luca gave her and she, who was disguised as Eden, accepted the uniform without protest.

In front of the mirror, she looked at herself. Her breasts were still visible. She then took out a bandage in her bag and wrapped her body with it. At least her female trait was not too distinct. She nodded in satisfaction with the reflection in the mirror.

Her hair, however, looked messy. Some parts were still longer than her ears, while the others were short. Edna would tidy it up again later at night because she now had to get to work.

Edna's morning routine was to make breakfast. She didn't know what food Lord Maximillian liked, and what he didn't like. She decided to get a chicken and cooked it simply.

At seven in the morning, Edna made sure the food was ready. Then, she brought the food to the dining room and served it on the table.

Ten minutes later, Lord Maximillian came alone and sat down at the dining table. The man didn't say a word. Edna followed Luca's instructions to stand very far behind Lord Maximillian's back.

The dining room was so quiet that it made Edna nervous.

(Does he like it? Or does he not like it? Does he like it? Or does he not like it?...)

The same question kept repeating in Edna's head. Only the clinking of cutlery could be heard in the room. In exactly thirty minutes, Lord Maximillian had finished his breakfast. Edna looked at her pocket watch. There was still time for breakfast and washing dishes before preparing morning coffee and clothes for her master.

Edna glanced at the leftovers on her master's plate. She then took all the plates back to the kitchen. Her gaze swept around the room and made sure no one saw her. Edna then ate the remaining food and felt grateful because she could fill her stomach.

She was used to it. It wasn't something new. Having a stepmother, as well as two stepsisters, made Edna know how to place herself. She was used to eating the leftovers of her siblings. Besides, Edna didn't really expect to eat well here.

Lord Maximillian's morning coffee time arrived. Edna was standing in front of her master bedroom door at three minutes before nine. She had three minutes left to get in. Right now, it was Lord Maximilian's time to clean himself up. She had five minutes to serve the coffee, tidy up the room, and prepare clothes for her master.

Her eyes never left the pocket watch on the tray where she put the cups and coffee pot.

At exactly nine o'clock, Edna walked in without knocking or asking to enter the room, as instructed by Luca. She put the coffee on the nightstand before tidying the bed and changing the sheet. She then moved quickly towards the cupboard to get her master's clothes.

After everything was finished, Edna took her pocket watch, then ran silently out of the room.

Four minutes and forty-three seconds. She was almost late.

Edna's work was done that morning. However, she couldn't stay still. She had to wash the bed sheet, robes, and all the dirty clothes. In the hall leading to the kitchen, she ran into Luca again.

"Good morning, Luca," greeted Edna.

"Good morning, Eden. You have tidied up Lord Maximillan's room?"

"Yes, and I brought his coffee too. Silently," she added with dramatic sound.

Luca let out a chuckle and appreciate Edna's work.

"Thank you, Eden. You can rest now. Lord Maximilian and I will be leaving in half an hour. You can do whatever you want in the mansion until three o'clock in the afternoon."

"Thank you, Luca. Have you had your breakfast?"

"Yes. I just got some bread in the kitchen."

"You only had that as breakfast? Do you want me to cook for you?"

"Oh, no need. This is enough. Just cook a delicious dinner tonight."

Edna nodded and watched Luca leave just like that. She put all the dirty clothes in one place and sorted out her master's clothes, as well as her yesterday's clothes. Before starting, she rested for a bit.
