"They're lanterns," someone said.

Edna flinched in surprise. She looked back and found Violet appearing from the darkness. Edna's body instantly tensed with anxiety.

"Relax, I'm not Eve. I won't hurt you."

Violet walked closer, then looked up.

"The lanterns will appear at the same time every year. They are the lanterns released at the festival in Northendell to celebrate the Crown Princess' birthday."

"We can't go in and out of Birwick without Lord Maxieno's permission, right?" Edna asked.

"Of course. But it seems Lord Max has always allowed those lanterns to fly in the sky over Birwick too."

"Why?" the girl asked in puzzlement.

Violet chuckled. "Why? I don't know. You can ask Lord Max yourself."
