Chapter ten: You owe me

"Hi, honey," the woman answered her phone in the coolest voice. There was a little softening to her voice but the expression on her face was blank, not matching her tone as she spoke to whoever is on the other side.

I am thinking is the husband.

I could only follow her end of the conversation. So it is going to be a weird conversation.

"Yeah, I am just entering the city."

"It went well. The organization was appreciative of your donation."

"No, I didn't forget the dinner with the mayor." There was a look of impatience on her face when she said this.

It wasn't hard to figure out that there wasn't any love lost between husband and wife. At least on the wife's part. I mean the woman is paying me to sleep with her husband. No woman who loves her husband does that.

I was dying to meet her husband. And not because I am going to be fucking him. That is part of it. But my curiosity stems mostly from my interest in this complicated mystery that is the woman few feet away from me.

I wanted to know what kind of a man has the honor to claim a woman like her. She doesn't look like a woman who can easily be tamed let alone dragged to altar.

Her husband must be something else to achieve this feat.

I was so focused on the woman that I began to pick up little tics she exhibits as she talked to the man on the other side.

Her long painted fingers drummed on her lap. Just the index finger. She does this when she is feeling impatience.

Also a little frown appears between her brow when she is trying to control her emotions.

She was fascinating to watch.

The call lasted for a lot of minutes before it ended. For a brief moment I saw a look of intense hate that was terrifying pass through her face but it was gone in a second. If I wasn't staring at her that closely I wouldn't have caught it.

What did he do that made her hate him this much?

A lot of reasons came to my mind. Nah, make that one reason.

Cheated on her.

I mean that is always what is at the bane of most marriages that break down.

Unless...

I didn't finish the thought. The woman has such a strong personality that it is impossible to imagine her letting a man hit her.

I gave her a minute before asking the question I was dying to know. I mean I have rode half across the country with this woman without knowing her name.

I don't know why I didn't ask immediately. Maybe because it was part of the mystery. Right now I am ready to solve the first mystery.

"So?"

She looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. Figures, she has already forgotten all about our conversation. I wondered what in the world will make an impression on this woman that she doesn't easily forget. It isn like she is in the moment and once she out of it, it no longer matters.

"Your name?"

"Amelia."

I couldn't stop myself from reacting to her name. My two brows climbed on top of my forehead in surprise. I was so not expecting that.

"What?" The woman gave me a strong stare, obviously seeing my reaction to her name.

"Nothing," I tried to hide my thoughts, but her eyes remained fixed on me letting me know she wasn't letting me off the hook until I give her reason.

I sat up straighter on my seat, and half faced her, drawing one of my leg on to the seat. "Okay, don't be mad at what I am about to say," I began, hoping that I don't provoke her with what I am about to say.

The woman is so cold, intense, and so unreadable. You will never know how she is going to act. I have never seen her get angry and I don't think I want to. Something tells me that It won't be pretty.

She arched a brow at my words, but didn't say a word and merely waited with a blank expression on her face for me to speak.

I gulped down nervously before opening my mouth.

"Amelia is a soft and beautiful name for a woman with a bitchy personality like you."

My eyes grew ten times their size.

Shit!

What the fuck did I just say?

I wanted so badly to call the words back, but that was impossible.

I looked so faint as I waited for her reaction.

The woman's brow furrowed with an incredulous confused expression like she couldn't believe what she just heard.

"Did you just call me a bitch!"

She sounded shocked.

I shook my head, with a very anxious look on my face. "I should have put it better. Maybe Bitchy is not the word I was looking for. I meant to say strong, you know confident," I rambled trying to explain the blunder that I just committed.

The woman's piercing stare didn't relent, neither did her stern expression relax.

Right now my heart was pounding in my chest. What is she going to do? Throw me out of her car? Take me to her secrete dungeon murder me and throw my body into the ocean where no one will find it.

My terrified mind was running away with so many scenarios by which the woman will show her anger at my big mouth.

"Did I really make a poor impression on you?" The woman's tone was puzzled and her stare grew heated forcing me to look her directly in the eyes.

The intensity of her stare made my heart skip in my chest, and the saliva in my mouth to dry up.

How could someone's eyes be so blue, and beautiful.

"I am waiting," she said a bit impatiently.

I have already put my foot in my mouth with my first answer, I am going to be cautious with the next one.

"You scare the shit out of me," I muttered softly, not looking away from her.

Her blue eyes widened a little like she is surprised by my answer, and then a furrow appeared between her brow.

"Why?"

My eyes narrowed at her. Seriously, does she not know how she comes off.

"Like I said you have such a strong and commanding personality that it is not hard for people to be intimidated by you."

"Actually, your exact words was I have a bitchy personality," she gave me a pointed look that made me blush and look away.

"Are you ever going to let me live that down?"

"Nope. It is rare for people to call me a bitch to my face," she smirked at me. "You are the first." Her stare grew stronger.

The way she was staring at me made me feel all tingling inside. This woman is just messing up my system. I have never been attracted to a woman before, yet I find myself reacting so intensely to her.

"I am sorry, I shouldn't have called you bitchy," I apologized in a shy tone, hiding my eyes from her laser stare. I feel her stare like a physical touch and I was itching to tell her to stop. Her stare was making me feel things I shouldn't feel.

"Apology not accepted. I am going to leave it up to you to make it up to me," she turned away from me to face forward.

The way she said it made me shiver and think naughty things.

"How do you want me to make it up to you?"

The low and husky tone of my voice got her attention back to me.

The same heated stare that sets my inside ablaze.

I wondered if she knew how she looks at me. Does she do it intentionally?

"I will let you know later. Just bear in mind that you owe me, and I will be collecting," she smirked me darkly.
