Chapter four : No is not an answer

I stared at her stunning face like a retard. I couldn't say a word to save my life. She arched a mocking brow at me.

"Aren't you going to let me inside?" She mocked in a patronizing tone.

I was tempted to say no. I mean who lets in a viper into their home?

A snake that is whom this woman reminds me of. A very dangerous animal.

I moved to the side to let her in, while panicking inside me that my apartment is clean enough for my unexpected August visitor.

I got a whiff of her expensive perfume when she passed by me, and shivered too when her hand brushed across my chest.

I turned to close the door when a very tall individual appeared in front of me scaring the crap out of me.

"Shit! Who the fuck are you?!" I yelled with my hand to my chest.

"They are with me," the woman yelled without stopping.

"They?" I frowned when more tall men made their way into my home.

Who is this woman that I just let into my home? I pondered to myself as I closed the door.

I made my way into the living room to find her three goons standing around like sentry soldier, while the woman moved around my tiny living room like she owned the damn place.

Actually, her presence made my living room feel even smaller than it is. Despite her slender frame the woman feels up more space than her physical appearance lets on.

"Neat, sparse. No pictures on the wall. No visible personal items. She wheeled around to face me. Her strong stare making me very self conscious. This is not your home?"

"It is. I sleep here," I said shakily. She has just been here for few seconds and she is already judging me.

She shook her head like she disagrees with me. "Doesn't feel like it. It lacks your personal touch," she made her way to my worn out couch.

I winced at the face she made before she sat on it.

"You know not all of us can afford an interior decorator," I snapped pissed off that she was mocking my home.

She quirked a brow at me. "Do you honestly believe that the finer things in the world is what makes a home?"

Was this a trick question? Of course if I live in a mansion I will certainly feel at home there. With her expensive dress and perfume I am sure she knows how that feels.

I ignored her question and asked one of mine. "What are you doing here?"

She disappeared for days that I started to think that the whole encounter was a figment of my imagination.

"Aren't you going to offer me wine before interrogating me?"

The grin on her face was certainly condescending, and the feeling I was having inside was certainly a violent one. I wanted to smack the smug grin off her lips. Not that I will ever have the courage to do it.

"You are not a guest here," I said instead.

Her brow hiked up her forehead. She has that particular action well perfected.

"So what am I?"

Crazy.

I folded my arms across my chest like I was chilled. "If you are here about what you asked the other night, then my answer is no."

"Really?"

The grin on her face was indicative that she wasn't taking my response seriously.

"Really," I snapped.

"You are not even tempted a little by the money?" The cold smile on her face let me know that she was toying with me.

"No."

"Why?" She lost her smile.

Because you are insane, and I do not want to be involved with a murderer.

"I am trying to quit, and don't think that I am right person for the job. I am sure there are a lot of girls out there who will be willing to indulge you."

She faced me fully as if giving me her whole attention. "I don't want other girls, I want you."

The way she said it. The look in her eyes.

Shit!

My body shook from the intense heat in her eyes.

I blinked to snap myself out of whatever spell she has got me on.

"Too bad we don't always get what we want." I looked like I felt bad for her but seriously I want her out of my apartment.

"Not meI," she smirked at me.

I arched a brow at her. "Meaning?"

"Meaning darling that I always get what I want, and you are going to work for me whether you like it or not. Now about that wine are you going to get it or should I?" She got to her feet. "I believe we should celebrate our new working relationship," she made her way towards the kitchen leaving me to gawk after her like she is an alien that dropped from the sky into my apartment.

It took a lot of seconds for me to snap after my shock and I went after her.

When I walked into the kitchen she had a bottle of my unopened wine. The best I had in the house.

She looked at me. "There is nothing good here, I guess this will do." She uncorked the wine and poured it into two glasses.

She approached me with the two glasses and handed me one.

"I am not working for you," I said strongly while taking the wine from her hand.

"Yes, you will," she winked at me and then took a sip of her wine.

My body shivered at her wink. And I tried to cover my reaction by sipping the wine as well.

She took few sips and then dropped the unfinished wine on my counter. "I have had my fill of cheap wines to last me a life time," she muttered.

I rolled my eyes. "Rude much."

"Did you say something darling?" she turned to face me.

I wish she wouldn't call me that. The way she says the word like she is caressing it with her tongue.

"I didn't say anything," I bared my teeth at her innocently.

"If that is the case I will see you in a week when I come to pick you up," she started towards the door.

I quickly dropped the glass in my hand on the kitchen table and went after her. She was right the wine was nasty.

"Why are you picking me up? Not that I am taking the job," I said when I caught up with her in the living room.

"Darling we have been through this. You are then perfect girl for the job. And I am picking you up because you need to be in the same location with my husband in other to catch his eyes. Don't you think so?"

Once again she treating me like I am stupid and hearing only what she wants to hear.

"You are not listening to me. I said I am not working for you," I yelled in frustration.

"You need to watch your tone with me darling. No one talks to me in that tone."

Her voice dropped a few degrees as she issued the warning, her expression just the same as usual. Flat.

I gulped down nervously, retreating but not relenting. "I don't want to do it," I said softly.

She paused from her phone she was scrolling through to look at me. "Why? If you give me a good reason I won't pressure you."

Her stern expression told me she was being serious.

I took a chance that saying this will not get me killed. I gave her goons a careful look before saying. "I don't want to be part of a murder."

She looked at me like I have lost my mind. "What are you talking about?"

"T..that night you said..."

She chuckled cutting me off.

"I was kidding dear. Put it out of your mind. Now that is settled I will pick you up in seven days. No need to pack anything because you won't need it," she started for the door, her goons falling in behind her.

She stopped mid way and turned to face me. "Can I have your account number?"

I looked at her confused. "Why?"

She stared pointedly at me causing me to blush before I recited the digits to her.

She clicked her fingers on her phone and a few seconds later my phone pinged.

I looked at my phone and gasped at the figures on my screen.
