Chapter 76
Finally, Howard and Gene made their way into the building, up the elevator, and into Jason’s room.
“My babies,” Howard called out. “Thank God, you’re here. We almost lost your father.”
James and Janey ran to him. They were much better at this than Howard realized.
“Marjorie, thank you so much for getting them. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you,” Howard said.
Marjorie practically ran to him.
“You don’t need to repay me, Howard,” she assured him as she joined in the hug Howard shared with his children.
“No, really, I do,” Howard said.
For a second, there was a question in her eyes. He could tell that she wondered if he knew. Was that a little bit of fear he saw? Yes, toying with them would be fun.
“That’s why I feel so bad asking for your help again,” Howard said.
Relief flooded Marjorie’s face. What was it Shakespeare did with his audience; relax them, only so that he could make them tense again? Yes, he wasn’t Shakespeare, but he could do this.
