Assassination

Julie knew this so, in the two hours of class, she explained all the firearms and how to use them and everything else. Everyone got to use the firearm in the class and Nathan found that he sucked at it. His performance was not the worst but it was in the bottom half among the kids. The aristocrats began to feel like Nathan wasn't that great after all and some threw disdainful gazes towards him. Unsurprisingly all nine aristocrats performed the best among all the students.

Just from his performance, Nathan already knew he had to dedicate some of the time from the five hours of the break for ranged training. Well, after thinking about it, it may not just be 'some' time. He may have to exclusively focus on Ranged Combat for a few weeks.

Next came the assassination class.

Julie gave everyone a curved dagger and gave them five minutes to get familiar with it. The training site was in the perimeter of the fields and the area was like a mini-forest. Nathan took the dagger and sat below a tree near the edge of the forest.

This time he felt like he was at home. He felt incredibly comfortable with the dagger and the setting around him as well. This was his home. The place where he felt safe and comfortable. He fiddled with the dagger a bit and looked at Julie and the two guards. He looked at the other kids sitting ahead without a care in the world. He looked at the relaxed atmosphere around him and a thought came naturally to his mind.

'Human life really is too fragile.'

Some of the students instantly felt a chill run down their spine and hastily took a combat stance. They felt a moment where their instincts were screaming at them to run away. But that moment lasted for just an instant and disappeared. Julie and the two guards also detected something and looked at the place Nathan was staying. They detected an intense killing intent coming from that area but it disappeared after an instant. The other students were still oblivious to what was happening and looked at the others who reacted in a strange way.

'Why would they jump out and get ready to fight for no reason?'

"That kid is not simple after all." said one of the two guards besides Julie.

"Yeah, That killing intent was even better than students studying in the third year. The only problem with him is his control. Even though it was only for a moment, he couldn't hold back after seeing the completely defenseless kids."

"Show me his background," said Julie, after thinking for a bit. Previously, she thought the kid had a good physique and a cunning mind but it seems like assassination might be his forte after all.

One of the guards pulled out a tablet and pressed on the screen a few times and passed it to Julie.

Name: Nathan

Age: 10

Gender: Male

Admission on: 9th October 2003

Background: Born and raised in the Six flag forests. Lived with an old man till seven years of age and then became an assassin. Currently known as 'Silent Blade Nathan' in the area. Most renowned for assassinating 'Mad demon Mason', a former captain from the Eastern military.

Evaluation: S-Grade

Weakness: Self-taught.

"No wonder. An assassin from the Six flag forest huh. That alone would be enough to justify that killing intent. After all, that place is full of killers and runaways from the kingdom and most of the residents there are criminals. If he gets a name for himself in such a place, then he has quite the experience in the field.

Assassinating a former captain from the military, huh. Normally, captains are on the same level as third-year students here so he is quite good. He may even be the best among the first-year students.

Does Berus know about this kid? I guess not. If he did, he'd have probably rigged the group division to get him in his class.

Hmm. Self-taught, huh. So, we need to work on his basics. His skills are good but if he learns them again with the basics then he will be fearsome."

Foundational skills should never be underestimated and Nathan knew that so he was attentive in the class even though the things that were being taught were too easy for him. This class was the most relaxing to Nathan as it was as easy as breathing to him. No one would get tired of breathing for two hours, right?

The class was over but Julie made them all gather around the main field again where all of the students were present.

Berus stepped in front of the students and looked at them with cold, emotionless eyes.

"There were eleven hundred people in the morning today and now at the end of the day, there are only seven hundred and twenty-one of you left.

I already told you before. Eighty per cent of you will die here and the rest will be the elites of humankind. From now on after the training is completed, everyone will enter the Dragon-Pheonix pool in the medical hall on the ground floor and stay there for an hour. That pool will heal your injuries and strengthen your body. It is one of the most important resources in the Asphodel meadow. So make sure you're pushing your body to the limits every day so you can improve the most in the shortest time possible.

Ah and one more thing. The gravity chambers and the training room for each field will be open during your break time as well. So, if you want to focus on a certain area among the four topics, then you can do that in your break time. That's all. All of you follow me to the medicinal hall then."

Nathan was excited after hearing that. Both pieces of information were good news to him. He could train without caring about not being able to continue the next day with the pool and he could give extra focus on his Ranged Combat during his break time.

The kids entered the medicinal pool and immediately felt a burning pain run through their bodies which was immediately followed by a cool refreshing sensation. All the injured areas and sore spots in their body were experiencing pain and relief at the same time. It was a weird sensation for the kids and even the aristocrats were amazed by it. Thirty minutes later, all the soreness in Nathan's body was gone and he felt his body being strengthened as Berus said. He felt a kind of weird energy revolving around his body which was strengthening all his internal organs as well.

Time was up very soon but all the kids were reluctant to leave the pool. All of them felt that their bodies were stronger than before. Even though the change was barely noticeable, it was the result of a single day of training. Everyone became excited and they felt like all the suffering earlier was worth it. If they get to use such a magical pool every day then they would be way stronger within a short period of time.
