Chapter 47: Let's Go
CHARLES’S POV:
Charles, flanked by two armed guards and Todd walking behind him, strode down the hall toward the great steeple. Earlier, Todd had removed Charles’s shackles, for Chloe could not allow anyone to know that the groom was a prisoner being coerced into a sham marriage.
They came to an open doorway. Charles, always observant, saw that the iron French doors had latches on their insides. This was his opportunity. Charles planted his left foot down at the transom and sent a right kick back at Todd’s chest, blowing him off his feet. He landed squarely on his back on the ground, knocking the wind out of him.
As the soldiers escorting Charles turned around, Charles shoved them on their back feet through the door, slammed it shut, and locked it with the latch. The soldiers pounded on the other side, unable to get in.
Charles turned to face Todd, who was rising from the blow. “Nice kick, Chuck. You knocked the wind out of me,” Todd said, regaining his breath.
