When the man was done speaking, the hall became quiet. Whitney did not understand why she was the only woman in the midst of fifteen or so men. At that time, the door was pushed open, and two men walked in carrying the question paper that was soon distributed with writing materials.
Whitney looked at the three questions on the paper before she picked up her pen. At that time, the man standing at the front spoke again. "You have half an hour to finish the question,"
Half an hour seemed a lot to answer the questions, but looking at the difficulty, leaving even three hours would not be enough. The three questions were all practical. This was to put the interviewee under pressure and see how well they would work under pressure.
Whitney remembered discussing a similar topic with her professor in class not too long ago, so she decided to start her answer from that question.
Applying the same method her professor talked about but adding her thoughts. She wrote fast, and it took her eight minutes to finish the first question.
"Why is there a female among them?" One of the men that brought the question asked Mr Jerry.
"How should I know?" Mr Jerry answered. He was also surprised when he saw her walk into the room. At first, he thought it was a mistake, but when he checked the list that was handed over to him, he noticed that there was indeed a female name.
"Could it be that there was a mistake?" the man did not give up. He seemed not to believe Mr Jerry was unaware of the situation.
"Maybe she has an outstanding achievement," the second man joined the conversation. Their voice was very low, so those writing could not hear what they were discussing.
"How outstanding can she be? She is so young. I think it was a mistake," the first man said. When Jerry heard this, he shook his head. "the director handled the list himself. Do you think he would make such a low-level mistake?" Mr Jerry asked.
The two men did not speak, but they had an answer in their minds. Indeed the director could not have made such a mistake, but if it was not a mistake, they could not tell why Whitney was there.
They had worked in the company for a few years, and it was a known fact that there was not a single woman working on the top floor.
Some people say it was because the devil was gay. Some say it was because he was old-fashioned and looked down on the ability of women. The most popular was because he did not want his office to be too noisy. Women talk a lot, and if she is beautiful, she might become a distraction to the men working with them.
No matter which reason was true, even a new company member knows this fact, so why was a woman suddenly attending the interview? Usually, no matter how outstanding a woman is, if the vacant post is on the top floor, her gender would disqualify her.
The three men did not continue to discuss. They watch the people writing the exam. A few of them chewed on their pen, not knowing what to write.
They looked very anxious at the question paper. Some were writing but frowned from time to time. After Whitney finished the first question, she had some idea bout the second question, so she started writing.
Her writing was smooth on the paper. She wrote very quickly, and in another nine minutes, she felt satisfied with her answer.
Although she knew she might not be called for the next round, Whitney still put a lot of thought into the answer. She read the third question three times but could not think of a solution. So she decided to go through the first two questions she had written. It two her four minutes to go through those answers and correct a few mistakes.
When she was done, she had only eight minutes. She looked at the question again. This time she had a little idea, so she started writing. The secretary's job was essential, the more she wrote, the better her idea flowed. She understood that if she wanted to be a secretary, it's was important for her to know how to write fast. "Two minutes more," Me Jerry announced. A few people inside the hall could not help but sigh. Whitney increased her speed and finished writing her answers. Then she used the remaining seconds to glance through what she had written and managed to correct errors.
" Time up, " Mr Jerry announced. The two men moved swiftly and collected the answers sheet, and walked out of the hall.
"The result would be out in fifteen to twenty minutes. You can use this time to visit the restroom or do anything of your choice. But you are not allowed to walk around the company without a destination," Mr Jerry said. When he finished speaking, a few people got up and exited the room.
" Hello pretty, " a man sitter closer to Whitney could not stop himself from starting a conversation.
" HI, " Whitney answered. She knew that she did not have the qualifications for the job, but at that moment, she was a bit anxious. She hopes to get the job.
She wished that perhaps she might be able to change the fate of her family by doing this. "How was it?" the man asked. He had a friendly smile, but Whitney did not want to talk to him. After all, she could tell the man was so nice because of her face. Moreover, she did not miss the fact that he looked down on her.
"It was okay," Even if she did not want to chat with him, she could only answer him. After all, it would be too rude to ignore him. When the man saw that she was not speaking to him, he frowned his brows.
"you don't have to put on the air, so I would think you are smart. I also wrote the exam, and I know it's was a bit difficult," the man said. When Whitney heard him, she could not help but roll her eyes mentally.
It was clear that the man thought too highly of himself, she did not even look at him, and he was already thinking that she wanted to attract his attention. She sighed and decided to ignore him.
Fifteen minutes passed quickly, and soon one of the men returned and handed over a piece of paper to Mr Jerry. Although these fifteen minutes passed quickly, those who wrote the examination felt it took a whole year. They looked anxiously at the piece of paper in Mr Jerry's hand
Mr Jerry collected the paper and looked at it; only five names were written on it.
"Emmanuel Edward
Brady
Karl Douglas
Raymond Swiss
And Whitney Warmer, you have passed the first stage. The rest of you can leave," Mr Jerry said. The man who spoke to Whitney's name was Emmanuel Edward, when he heard his name, he looked at Whitney with a smug smile, but to his surprise her name was also called.
" you are Whitney? " He asked when he noticed that she did not get up to leave.. Whitney did not bother to answer him. She pretended to play with her phone. Those would did not pass were not very happy, but they left quickly, after all, the Smart cooperation was not a place they could act out of line.
