Not surprisingly, Hudson was in the foyer when Leander reached the bottom of the stairs. “Good morning, Lord Dearborne.”
“Good morning, Hudson. May I have my coat and hat, please?”
The only sign of the butler’s surprise was his slight hesitation before retrieving the requested items. “Shall I summon the coach, sir?” he asked as he helped Leander with his greatcoat
“No, thank you. I’ll walk.” Leander didn’t want to risk seeing Julien again. He’d walked greater distances many times before, albeit never when he was feeling so miserable both physically and emotionally. He finished pulling on his gloves and took his hat from the butler. “Thank you, Hudson.”
“Good day, my lord.” Hudson held the door open for him.
