CHAPTER 167: New-born.

The dwarf took a few steps back to give the screaming man space.

But the man continued to jell at him and kept coming closer. "It is because of people like you that we are all in this situation. How could you betray Atlantis by siding with this… thing! I had a home. You know that? I had a future, we all had!"

Still as calm as he could be, the dwarf tried again to make more space between them. "Sir please calm down. You don't know what you are getting yourself into if you manage to make him mad by attacking me."

"Oh, so now you are hiding behind that demon? I hate to pop your bubble, but it couldn't care less if you died."

Clearly done with this shit the dwarf just turned around. "Yea sure. Now I have soap in my eyes, and I am blind to the world and all its ugliness. Let's just stop this. It's not my, nor the kid's fault and this won't change anything about the situation."

The man tried to hit the dwarf while he had turned his back to him. But he soon halted his actions once I landed in front of him.

The dwarf looked at me and sighed. "of course, you are back now. listen this idiot is not worth your time. You can better just make sure that the others don accidentally kill themselves."

I tilted my head. "Since when do I have to babysit roughly thirty people? if they screw up it is on their hands."

"See? I told you! The demon does not care about us. It just wants to enjoy itself by watching us slowly die." The man cried out.

"If he truly saw no worth in our lives then I would already hade died a million times over. Given that I think that it is hilarious to annoy the kid."

I crossed my arms and looked down on the dwarf. "Alright you are going a bit too far now."

But the man was still not convinced. "Yea right. Why would I ever believe you. You yourself don't even trust that demon enough to know your name!"

The face of the dwarf turned pale, and I could hear how his heartbeat was at least twice as fast as before. He clenched his fist and swiftly walked away.

I immediately went after the dwarf to see if he was okay. But not before I smacked the man to the ground with my tail.

The dwarf seemed to just be walking in a random direction, not really caring about all other things that happened around him.

Once I caught up, I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright?"

He just shrugged. "He is right you know. I have never trusted anyone with my name after what happened, not even you. Since a normal name that you call someone by is a shortcut to a true name, I tried to leave mine behind. I guess I am still afraid of a demon finding it again. but with so many demons around it is bound to happen at some point. Maybe I should just tell you to get it over with."

I shook my head. "Don't. You clearly don't want anyone to know what your name was and that is your choice. Don't let that screaming idiot get to your head. A lot has happened in the past few days, you are tired, this world is slowly getting integrated into hell. you are not in the right state of mind to make decisions like this. If you decide to tell me now, you might never forgive yourself."

The dwarf took a deep breath and faintly smiled. "Thanks kid."

"No problem. But what was that idiot so angry about anyways?"

The dwarf shot a worried glance at the small crowd. "His wife is about to give birth. But it is not going well. He thinks it is because you are here and blames me because I am one of the few people who actually have something to do with you."

I did not get how my presence could have any influence on that. But I understood that when things did not go well, it was often blamed on demons. But that was mainly because these demons actively wanted to do harm.

Suddenly Allenya ran out of the crowd and grabbed my arm to try and drag me with her.

"Allenya what are you doing?"

"Elisa thought you some magic right? You really have to help us otherwise both the mother and the child will die."

Despite the fact that she was using her entire weight to try and pull me into the direction of the humans I did not move.

"You know that if I try to help people will think that the child is cursed, right? And I could not do much in the first place. I am terrible at healing."

"Elisa asked for you specifically. Please, we really need any help we can get."

I could hear how desperate she was in her voice. "Fine, I will try to help. But it is not on me if I make it worse."

I moved so fast towards the crowd that to them it looked like I appeared out of nowhere. Both Elisa and Nathan were here and were doing all they could to ensure the survival of both the mother and the child.

Elisa briefly looked up at me once I appeared next to her. "Great you are here. I will try to keep the mother alive. You can make sure she has the energy to actually give birth. Just let some of your magic flow through her, however, don't make it gather at one place. And try not to heal her yourself."

She no longer seemed as nervus as she always had been. But it was also not the time for things like that in the first place.

I did as she asked, and things seemed to go a little better for a while. And about half an hour later the screams of a human new-born could be heard all throughout the demon nesting area.

But despite our efforts, in the end the mother still died holding her son in her arms.
