CHAPTER 109: do you believe me?

Slowly I crawled up.

"Are you okay!" The dwarf repeated. His voice was loud and echoed through the ruins.

I blinked a few times and looked around to make sure that I was really awake.

"I-I guess."

"Alright kid, what have you done?"

("Is he angry?")

I did not get it. What could I have done to anger him?

"What are you talking about?"

He pointed to the tip of my tail. There was a bone like growth in the shape of a sharp spade at the end of it.

I moved my tail closer to my face to inspect this new feature. It was white, much like my horns. It was smooth and had a slight discolouration at the sharp tip where it shifted from a milky white to a deep black.

"You must have killed a lot of people or taken a soul that held a lot of power."

The dwarf crossed his arms in annoyance.

"It does not really matter which one it is. Either people will notice that a lot of them are dead or suddenly some ancient being disappeared. In the end, they will start to suspect something and then it is only a matter of time before they find you!"

I shook my head. Some of my hair fell in front of my eyes, but right now I did not really care.

"No. that can't be it. I did not kill anything in the last three days."

"Oh. So, you suddenly just gained so much power in such a short amount of time that you passed out and your body had to change to adapt to it!"

That was indeed strange. Not once before had I gained power from nothing. I always had to kill and consume.

Maybe I had been starving myself for way to long, so I killed some things wile sleepwalking. But I felt like, that was verry unlikely. I had gone through periods without eating souls for way longer than this, without anything like that happening.

"I think I got summoned."

"What! Sorry, but if you got summoned, you should be back in the inferno and not in this world."

"Well, it was not like it was a standard summoning either. I think it was the place where I was trapped before, well… you know what I mean. There were also other things there. I do not know what they were. But one seemed scared of the other and send me back."

The dwarf sighed and placed his hand on my arm.

"Look kid. I am just concerned, that is all. It is not like you to go on a massacre without a reason, so I thought that there maybe was something extremely wrong. And though it is possible that you indeed got summoned, there is also the change that it was something like a hallucination caused by passing out from, I don't know what you did."

I narrowed my eyes and took a step back while baring my teeth.

The dwarf hurriedly retreated his hand so that he would not cut it open on my scales as I made this rapid movement.

"You really think that I would just go on a massacre?"

"I am not sure. That was why I asked."

I unfolded my wings behind my back. the narrow space of the ruins made me look even larger as I towered over the dwarf.

"If you're not sure about that, then how can you believe my story? I could really be any demon just playing a game of pretend out of boredom or trying to find out more about the people. Is my whole situation really easier to believe than that I would not randomly kill a mass amount of people?"

Before the dwarf could answer I jumped over him and flew out of the building.

There I landed on one of the nearly broken-down towers that was just intact enough to hide me from people that may be wandering in the area yet it was to damaged to be accessible.

I could hear him shouting some things down below. But I did not really listen at this point.

I sighed and looked at the sky that consisted of water. It was hard to keep track of the time here.

This left me to have no idea whether it was day or night.

I decided to sit a bit further back in the tower. Just to make sure that no trespassers cold see me.

Leaning against the stone-cold wall of the tower, I stared at my red, clawed hand. Tough I hated to admit it. The dwarf was right. He could not be sure if I had done something like that or not. I even did it once before, where I burned down an entire village.

Maybe this was why I got so angry. Because it could have been true.

This were the moments where I missed my family. I wished that my sister had been here. she somehow always knew what was to come. I was sure that she would know a solution, or at least something to calm myself down with.

For now, I just stayed here. I knew that I would eventually have to come down and apologise to the dwarf. Afterall, he just wanted to make sure that everything was okay.

Still that moment was not jet. I still had to calm down a little to make sure that I would not actually go on a rampage.
