The late afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the garden as Seraphine and I strolled through it. The gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, and the air felt warm and soft.
Despite the peaceful surroundings, I couldn't shake the bittersweet feeling that had settled in my chest. Tomorrow, my sister, Lydia, would be crowned queen of the humans.
I was proud of her, of course, but there was something nostalgic about the whole thing. It felt like the end of an era the last link to the life I once knew.
"You're quiet," Seraphine said softly, walking beside me. She didn't press, just let the observation hang in the air.
"I guess I'm just thinking about Lydia," I admitted, glancing up at the sky. "Tomorrow's a big day. She's going to be queen. I'm so proud of her, but… it feels weird, you know?"
Seraphine nodded thoughtfully. "I get it. It's like watching a chapter close, isn't it? But a new one opens tomorrow."
