The strong Easterlies blew across the streets again as Xu Rouguang stayed out that night. Without any words from Lai Mingjie, his father's secretary relayed to them that Lai Mingjie wouldn't be coming back for the day anymore. They should just continue their work until clock-out. Even though it was past nine in the evening, Lai Mingjie wasn't still home.
Instead of a kind and mellow face, Xu Rouguang stared into the city proper with sharp eyes. He was watching the city from a viewing deck of a park. People were allowed to be there twenty-four-seven, but no one would dare disturb the aloof young man.
Or so he thought.
"Xu Rouguang."
His name echoed into the night, but the general didn't even turn to look. He didn't know who owned that voice, but that kind of tone wasn't something he would like to pay attention to. However, a strange aura seeped behind him, and a man walked to his side.
"General Xu, so the news was real. You've returned from the dead." The man laughed out, but bitterness tainted his laughter. "You really are a deathless general."
"I'm not in the mood to speak with anyone." Xu Rouguang didn't even pay attention to the man.
"Ah, forgive me. In case you don't remember me, my name is Radiant Serpent East from the Eastern Dragon Kingdom. I served in the second battalion and had always been under your command during the hunt of the demonkind." The man clasped his hands to salute his senior, but Xu Rouguang didn't even return it. It irked the other general and even gritted his teeth in silence.
This man was so afraid when immortals began spotting Emodao with a man that resembled General Xu Rouguang. Now that he had seen him with his own two eyes, he was confused if he should be suspicious or terrified. Everyone who served under General Xu knew that this maniac was Emodao's enemy. Seeing them together and not slightly trying to kill each other was bizarre. Then again, most generals knew that perhaps, something was wrong with their dreaded General Xu.
Brother Blue had been thrashed by the Goddess Nuwa personally while she was protecting Emodao. Stationing General Xu next to him was more likely her move to protect him at all times. Perhaps, there was something about Emodao that the goddess was hiding. That was what most of the goons wanted to know.
After being disciplined by his own father in the East Sea, Brother Blue returned to the mortal realm to settle scores with Emodao. However, he heard that General Xu himself rose from the dead and was now sticking to Emodao like glue. He needed to know why he was punished by Nuwa, or else he might get killed the next time he trifled with the demon king.
Xu Rouguang didn't recognize the man; neither did his name ring a bell. He continued to ignore the man who was disturbing his solitude.
"General Xu... why are you with Emodao? Weren't you... weren't you enemies?" Brother Blue began gritting his teeth. Emodao was the enemy of the immortals; how come their greatest champion was a dog to him now?
"Is that how everyone sees it?" Xu Rouguang only murmured an answer that Brother Blue caught. The clear daze in the deathless general's eyes was easy to see... and the welling sadness oozing from his human-like aura.
Before he could react, a gust of wind came from behind them. Brother Blue then sensed a strong feeling of danger coming from the depths of his soul, and so he rolled to the side. It made Xu Rouguang susceptible to the horrible gust heading his way. However, as if a reflex, he only raised a hand and broke the gust that tried to slap him away. Needless to say, Brother Blue was pushed away by the impact.
Laughter came from the direction where the wind originated. Since there was a hostile action done, Xu Rouguang cast a gaze at the man who just arrived like a proper immortal descending from a high place. The man was donned in casual clothes to blend in, but he surely didn't get the memo about unleashing their powers in the mortal realm. Then again, it was also the reduced version.
The newcomer huffed smugly, glancing at Brother Blue who had his ass on the floor. "Xu Rouguang! You deathless bastard! Welcome back!" He then approached him like a friend, even his arms wide open. However, Xu Rouguang's hand was still raised, forming a shield to keep him away. "How cold! I thought the Abyss would have made you a little warmer."
"Do not approach me." Xu Rouguang warned him. The same bladed glare was on his eyes, and there would be no mercy for those who wouldn't keep themselves at bay.
"Hah, guess you never changed. Five thousand years in the Abyss, and you're still awful even to us." The immortal hummed as he glanced at Brother Blue again who had now gotten to his feet. "That reminds me, you're only remotely considerate to your dog. What's his name again? Severed Glacier?" He smirked as if it was to ridicule the deathless general. "I heard Severed Glacier is already dead. You must be so lonely now... that why you chose to pet Emodao instead?"
"I have no words for you." Xu Rouguang left the railing and walked as if there was no proud immortal that was trying to talk to him. Of course, it was embarrassing for the newcomer.
"Hey, Xu Rouguang, be careful who you turn your back to." He dropped his smiles and glared at the deathless general. "You may be the one who killed Emodao, but that doesn't mean you're unrivaled in the immortal realm. I, Immaculate Ivory Qilin, will make sure you would be taken back to the Abyss. You have no idea about the consequences of your actions."
Xu Rouguang only stopped walking. Consequences of his actions? He... took actions? What kind of actions? He then turned and smiled at Immaculate Ivory Qilin. "Consequences? What consequences? Please enlighten me... big cat."
Immaculate Ivory Qilin's face was already dark, and now, it twisted in fury. A qilin might resemble a tiger, but he was never reduced to a big cat. Of course, it was a nickname that General Xu had given him back then; even Xu Rouguang had no idea about this, but he still did so. The qilin summoned his Celestial Spear and aimed the blade at the deathless general. "I see you wanted to die again."
Brother Blue sensed the explosion of murderous aura coming from Immaculate Ivory Qilin, and he noticed the incoming bright lights from the city proper. The other immortals had sensed his aura and had to make sure he wouldn't implicate on a human, or else the Goddess Nuwa might personally appear to deal with him and the bystanders.
He yelled from the side, not trying to use his own body as a shield, "General Qilin! General Qilin! Don't start a fight! We're in the middle of the city!"
"Is that right?" General Qilin glared at Brother Blue who cowered at his gaze. He then turned to Xu Rouguang. "How about we go up there in the heavens and fight? Let's see if you can keep up with me, deathless general."
"Up there, huh..." Xu Rouguang looked up at the night sky and then smiled at General Qilin again. "Fine by me." His face then distorted in insanity as he unleashed his massive murderous aura that frightened even the other generals that were headed their way. "Please teach me well, kitty-kitty-kitty."
