The fire axe

(Meghan)

Meghan ran alongside Ray with a bitter taste in her mouth. She turned her head and got a quick glance of Rody facing off against the Erratic before she turned around the building and lost sight of him. She faced forward with unease building up inside her, wondering whether they had done the right thing. She sneaked a look at Ray to see how he was coping with the whole thing. As she expected, he was not taking it well at all.

He clenched his teeth together tightly and stared straight ahead, almost as if forcing himself to not look back. Both his hands were balled up into fists, the tips of his fingers cutting into his palms. Even his breathing was loud and uncontrolled. Meghan got the feeling that he could stop running at any moment and rush back to save Rody.

"Are—are we heading inside E block?" Leon asked, attempting to break the silence.

Ray didn't answer.
