Chapter 87
Lisa put extra water and food out for Godiva and cleaned her litter box before she and Sam drove from Hickoryville, North Carolina to the outskirts of Washington, DC in about five hours. They drove straight through except for a stop for gas and a bathroom break. Exhausted, they checked into separate motel rooms at a simple mom-and-pop place, clean with too few amenities to mention. After a quick shower they met for a late dinner at the small but intimate restaurant next door. They had chatted about a lot of ifs, ands, and buts about Luke throughout the drive there but they never talked about each other or their feelings for each other or their relationship. Not even where they thought their relationship went wrong before and where, if anywhere, it could go now. They weren't going to start now over dinner.
