Escape. (Prologue)

"Shh, don't make any noise". Hugo said to his friend in a low tone of voice.

"I know that, you don't have to tell me". His friend retorted in a low tone of voice also.

"We can't let this grass cutter escape, it's so fat, it would have lots of meat".

Hugo brought out a mini arrow from his pack of arrows, put the sharp edge of the arrow into the black liquid, positioned the arrow well in his bow, moved front a little, aimed well, and fired. Before the grass cutter could realize that something was wrong to run away, the arrow penetrated its body. Even with the arrow in its body, it ran away, but it didn't go far.

It ran for some seconds, then its pace reduced, and it stopped moving.

"Yes". Hugo uttered with a smile on his face.

He and his friend ran over to where the grass cutter was lying, then Hugo picked it up, removed the arrow from its body causing blood to gush out of that spot. Then he handed the grass cutter over to his friend, and his friend threw it into the bag he was carrying.

"We've finally caught one". Hugo voiced out with excitement in his facial expression.

"Yeah, you did it. Now, we just have to search for another one, and once we sight one, I'll be the one to kill it". His friend said.

"OK, no problem".

The both of them began sauntering once again, and sighting another one wasn't that easy. It took them time to hunt down the first grass cutter, and it would also take them time to hunt a second one. After sauntering for minutes more, they sighted another one, and Hugo's friend did to Hugo what Hugo did to him.

"Shh, don't make any noise".

Then he brought out a mini arrow, put the sharp edge of the arrow into the black liquid, aim well, then he fired. But he missed, it was a close call, the arrow nearly grazed the fur of the grass cutter, but it didn't. And the moment that happened, the grass cutter scampered away.

"Holy shit! that was a close call, what a miss". Hugo's friend uttered scattering his hair with his palms.

"Yeah, you missed, you shushed me for nothing". Hugo stated.

"Don't worry, I won't miss my next target".

The both of them began sauntering once again, and after some time, they sighted another grass cutter. They made sure not to make any sound so the grass cutter wouldn't run away, then Hugo's friend drew out a mini arrow, put the sharp edge into the black liquid, placed it in his bow, aimed well, focused, and fired.

The arrow penetrated the grass cutter's body, and as usual, it ran away, but not even up to five seconds, its pace reduced, and it stopped moving...it was dead.

"Yes! I finally caught one". Hugo's friend voiced out.

The both of them ran over to where the grass cutter was lying, picked it up, removed the arrow from its body, and put it into the bag Hugo's friend was carrying.

"Now, we've caught two grass cutters, let's see if we can catch a third one". Hugo said.

They began strolling and glancing around once again, but they didn't sight any one for minutes. Since they have two already, and not wanting to waste too much time in the forest, they evacuated the forest. Walking along the town square passing different people, they weren't afraid of the fact that they were holding bows and carrying packs of arrows.

Everyone that sighted them knew that they were coming back from hunting...hunting wasn't a bad thing. As they sauntered, they chatted,

"So, where is our destination right now?". Hugo inquired of his friend.

"Let's go to my house to prepare the grass cutters, we'll roast and spice them there". His friend uttered.

"OK, great idea".

Now, they knew where they were heading to. They journeyed and journeyed until they arrived at his friend's house, his parents weren't around. They began taking the steps needed to prepare bush meats. First of all, they cut off the head of the grass cutter letting its blood flow out, then they began taking the other steps needed to prepare the meats.

Hugo's friend was good at preparing bush meats, so he was the one doing most of the stuff. After they were done with the first grass cutter, they took the second one and did to it what they did to the first one. After the meats have been cut into different pieces, they spiced them up and began roasting them. A type of nice meaty scent circulated that environment 'cause of the meats they were roasting.

After they were done roasting, they put them into a large bowl and began eating.

"Hmm, delicious". Hugo uttered while munching.

"Yeah, we wouldn't be enjoying this if we hadn't gone into the forest to hunt". His friend stated.

They ate until they were satisfied, then they decided to give the rest to their household. Hugo was sure that his siblings would be so happy to munch the meats...he didn't know how his mum would react to it. They shared the meats amongst themselves, his friend was gonna give some to his household also, he's got siblings too.

Hugo put his share of the meats into a neat sack that his friend gave to him, then he waved his friend goodbye and evacuated his house. As he strolled along the town square heading straight to his house, he thought of how happy his siblings would be to see the meats. He sauntered until he arrived at the front of the house, and just by glancing at the door, he could tell that someone was in.

Entering, he sighted his little brother sitting on the ground and playing one of the village games. He asked where their sister was, and he replied that she hadn't come back.

"Well, I have a surprise for you". Hugo said to his brother.

"What is it?". His brother asked with an inquisitive facial expression.

He gave him the sack of bush meats, and the moment his brother sighted what was inside, his face lightened up in excitement. Getting permission from Hugo, he began eating immediately. Hugo told him to leave some for his sister, and he was gonna do that. After some time, the princess of the house arrived, that's their sister, and Hugo's brother didn't waste time showing her her part of the meats.

She was so excited at what she was seeing, and she didn't waste time as she began munching. Time passed, evening reached, and before they knew it, their mum had arrived. Hugo and his siblings were so happy to see their mum, and their mum was so happy to see them...she caressed the hairs of each of them.

The little princess couldn't keep her mouth shut, she told their mum about the meats Hugo brought home, and their mum questioned him a little, and he gave answers to all of her questions. This wasn't the first time Hugo was bringing meats to this house, he's brought some in the past, but it's been a long time since he did that last.

Their mum planned to head straight to the kitchen to start preparing dinner, but then, they heard a scream.

"What was that?". Hugo inquired.

Not too long after that, the environment became noisy, like something was happening.

"What is happening outside? Let me go check". Hugo's mum uttered.

As she began strolling to the door to open it, the door opened, and there was her husband panting and sweating a little. He entered, shut the door, and said to all of them,

"We have to evacuate here now".

"Why? What is happening?". Hugo's mum inquired.

"The Fleuran kingdom is bringing about ruins to our kingdom, they have killed many, and they plan on killing more and capturing more". His dad uttered hastily.

"What! how is that possible? We've always been victorious over the Fleuran kingdom when it comes to things like this, we've always been winning the battles. So how is this happening?".

"They attacked at the right time, our knights aren't prepared at all, and they joined forces with another kingdom. At this point, they've killed the king's wife and daughters". Hugo's dad uttered hastily once again.

"What! Oh, this is bad".

At this point, Hugo and his siblings were frightened, it was evident from their facial expressions.

"We have to leave this place now". Hugo's dad uttered once again.

He noticed the fright on his children's faces, then he strolled over to them and said,

"My children, don't be afraid, I'll protect you guys, I am willing to sacrifice my life to protect you guys".

He ran over to his scabbard, drew out his sword from it, then he took a bag and put some essential things in it, like foodstuff and all that. Then he glanced at his household and uttered,

"Let's go".
