A Way Out

We couldn't get out the way we came in so we had to look around for an exit.

"Look, over there in the distance there's a staircase. Maybe that would bring us back on the ship," Dad suggested.

We walked over to the staircase. In my head I wondered how all this fit in one tiny ship, but once I thought about it I thought that it probably wasn't on the ship. That dark world must be something else. The stairs looked old and unused. Dad went up first and I followed.

CRASH! The stairs broke as Dad stood on it. Now his foot was stuck in the staircase.

"A little help would be nice," he said sarcastically.

"How am I supposed to help you?"

"Pull the boards away from me."

I went to pull the boards away from Dad's foot so he could get up but the boards were difficult to pull. I saw an axe on a table so I grabbed it. 'Convenient,' I thought to myself.

Dad moved his foot so it would only hit the boards. I swung the axe and cut the boards. Shortly after he got out and we continued up the stairs.
