"Whence and what art thou, execrable shape,

That dar'st, though grim and terrible, advance

Thy miscreated Front athwart my wat

To yonder Gates?"

Paradise Lost- John Milton

The night shuddered around us. Our wolves called for us to be reunited. My hand rested on the silky pelt of my mate. Jacob. I gasped and shook my head. Something was missing. He turned his amber gaze at me. Worry wrapped around him.

"It's ok. Everything is going to be fine," I whispered to him. Yet, I had the weirdest sensation that something was gone. Broke. Trapped. Jacob broke away from me and disappeared among the trees. Soon sounds from the clan flooded away me. New scents. I took my time contemplating the murmurs of the trees as they talked to each other, and the rustling of small creatures as they hid from me. I let out a sigh of pure bliss. I felt like a newly born goddess.

"Re?" called a voice from the shadows. I blinked towards it. Jacob and the other wolves gathered around her. Who? A rival? A clan member? But her face was familiar. I just stood there and gazed at her. "Renesme, it's me, Leah," she slowly stepped into the light. She was wearing torn jeans and a white sleeveless shirt. Her feet were bare. Jacob trotted back to me, his large head brushed against my side. Our powers mingled. His fierce like a burning fire, mine cold and ancient as time itself.

"I am your queen and you will address me as such," she blinked and looked over her shoulder to the other wolves. Four of them. Some were new addictions.

"Jacob? What is wrong with her?" she glared at my mate. The arrogance. "She smells wrong," I raised my hand to show her who was in command and Jacob growled, a menacing low sound left his lips. Was he warning me? Me...the Goddess. No one commands me.

'Don't hurt my wolves,' his voice slammed into me. 'I am your alpha, you don't hurt them,' my hand trembled from his compulsion. He pulled back his powers and brushed his head against my side once again to show that he was not angry as long as I didn't touch his pack. I lowered my hand. Jacob nodded to Leah.

'Let go back to the house,' stated Jacob and the wolves followed him. I stared behind them. Something was missing. And I couldn't remember what.
