The dark months to come

Since that day my dark weeks began. The first days where the best ones of all of them I could read books about herbs or my lovely newspapers or people visiting me.

On the first day my 3 best friends came to visit me.

One who is the same age as me with 13 years. His name is Brian.

My second friend is three years older and his name is Sebastian. Too long for us so, we just call him Seb.

The third one is a 12 year old girl named Luna.

The moments they saw me sitting in my bed reading about herbs Luna lunged at me. I wanted to dodge but wasn´t fast enough and she succeded in hugging me.

"Your mother said you are ill. Is everything alrigh? Are you going to die?" Luna nearly screamed as she hugged me.

"Its nice to meat you too. And nobody is going to die" I responded akwardly as i try to free myself from her grip.

"You could think otherwise if you saw your mothers concern" Brian said while laughing lightly at the scene he is presented with.

"What do you mean?" I asked bewilderd while finally freeing myself

"As we were playing in the village center your mother came running and asked nearly everyone for help. She explained that you are ill and maybe wants to send you to are larger city to let you get checked by a doctor in the future" Seb explained

"What kind of help is my mother asking for?"

"I think she asked for financial help. She certainly asked for money" Brian answered my question

"What? Isn´t our familiy going to fall into a hugh dept then?"

"Have you forgotten that we are a community that is close to each other. Im sure they are gonna help for free. Particular because of you circumstances." Seb explained with confidence

"Dont discuss such a serious thing. I want to play with you" A high voice interrupted our conversation.

We looked down on the little girl who is much shorter than any one of us.

As we saw her sulking expression we all started to laugh because it was too hilarious.

"Why are you laughing at me?" she asked in a now annoying tone

"Its nothing. Its nothing. We could play hide and seek in my house" I answered her while grinning

Everyone agreed to my proposal and we begann to play hide and seek in my home.

It was a lot of fun and I was grateful for the change as the last days where not good at me.

One thing bugged me while playing. I was never really good at Hide and Seek I was almost always the first who got found. Today I was amazing. I hid so well I had to reveal myself sometimes.

That was some good mocery material with which I could annoy my friends for quiet some time.

In the next couple of days all of the villige people came to visite. They came with little present to cheer me up or spoke words of sympathy to me. My friends also visited me nearly every day the first weak.

Over the next week I got less and less visiters as our villiage got busier and busier. Everyone in the village had to work hard even my best friend, mother or father to keep the village running. Harvesting our fields, preparing it for the next plants. Most Important preparing for the next merchant thats about to come to our villiage.

I even saw my parents only at mealtimes and some days they decided to company me for the day which I was really grateful.

As I got more and more free time I put more time into reading. Especially the newspaper. I collected a lot of them over the years. Now I even have the mood to go over the political stuff as I had nothing else to do.

It reported about conflicts of our human country called Eppehie the weakest human country out their as I learned in our little school.

They have conflicts not only with a neighboring country belonging to the so called Titans but also a human country. Apparently a titan got killed by Mages from our country for a precious resources and some ancient rune was found some miles away from the human countries borders.

This article attracts my attention every time I read this newspaper since at the beginning I thought that human countries are united because our race is getting represented by 2 strong Mages.

Sometimes I find myself imagine what It could be like if all human countries would be one. I imagine us dominating the world all the other races out there no matter which.

Not only I alone imagine such things It is my whole friend group. Sometimes we imagine such scenerios for the whole evening.

Fighting is also a fun thing for us. Imagine ourself as mages and fighting against each other with certain techniques like Sudden Death or my favourite Death Laser.

Ach, If only I could be a mage. I laughted at myself. Me being a mage? If it would be that easy everybody could be mage from now on.

Ohh and In the newspaper one of these 2 Mages is wielding space magic. Space thats so crazy! I can only imagine what you could do with such a power.

In such a matter time flew by fast I just didn´t notice it. Being locked in a completly dark house doesn´t help your sense of time. In the 3 tests we made I still feared the light. Nonetheless the support of my parents and my willingness to not disappoint them let me push through the experience which afterwards let me sleep bad for some days.

In the end nothing changed. Completly Nothing! Its still hurts as much as before.

One Morning as I stepped into the dining room I saw not only my parents but also another person sitting at the table. It was our chief. He was a man with a relatively small built if compared to my father. Even then because off his work as a hunter he has a fit body.

As i stepped into the room my mother pointed at her lap. Clearly a request for me to sit there where she hugged me from behind.

After i made myself cozy in my mothers embrace my father began "We have discussed when we should send you into the city and we had the Idea that you will go with the next merchant that comes by here in the next days"

"And Son it was a heartbreaking decision for us to make but you have to go alone into the city"

As I let the sentence sink in I could hardly believe what I heared right now. "Me. Alone. Out there?"

I started to hear little sobs from behind me the hug tightent a bit .

Next the chief spoke up with a sigh "I wish I could say otherwise but you really have to go alone. We don´t have enough money to send another person with you. The cost of a doctor is nearly enough to spend our whole money on. It is only possible because everyone donates their saved up money for you so that it barely is enough for the trip."

"How could I do that? I am barly 13 years old and I should go alone?" I said in a slightly unbelievable tone

"Son please stay calm." My father demanded in a strict and the same calm voice he uses in every serious talk.

He went on.

"We are as scared as you. We dont have any information about your illness. It could be deadly and we wouldn´t even know. You could maybe die right infront of us any moment. You could live the rest of your life in a house unable to go out at day. It would break us to see it. That is what we are scared of so we made the decision to send you to a doctor".

"But ..." I wanted to protest but was cut off by my mother nearly instantaneous.

"No buts honey we want you to go for your sake and ours" She said in a strong voice. Still I felt tears dropping on my head.
