13: Protecter Carson

Jack meets me in my new-ish bedroom, decked with red and black. I fall onto my oversized bed and spread my wings, airing them out.

"How was school?" He asks. I smile.

"Good. I met someone. He's really nice."

Jack inhales.

"He." He repeats. "Cool."

"Tayler! Carson's here!" My mom shouts. I smile at Jack.

"I'll see ya at dinner, mkay?"

He nods and leaves just as Carson enters my room.

"What're you doing here?" I ask, sitting up. He shrugs.

"Thought I'd visit. Noticed you're the new girl, and thought maybe you could use a friend."

I nod.

"That would be great." I smile. He blinks and sits down next to me. He opens his mouth to say something, and-

Something outside my window cracks. I glance outside, and shriek. Carson bolts to his feet and grabs my shoulders. He steps in front of me, and opens the window. A familiar guy I saw at school stares into my window. A stalker?! Carson leaps out the window, landing in front of the boy. His jaw is clenched and he towers over the stranger.

"What're you doing here?" He says, softly, yet scarily. The boy swallows, but doesn't move. Carson tilts his head down, making him look slightly scarier. Now the boy runs.

"Carson, i could've just called the cops."

"There are no cops here." He says, hopping back into my room. "We fend for ourselves."

"Then why'd you do that?" I ask. Carson stares at me.

"I didn't want you getting hurt." Is all he says. But I thought-

"Tayler! Dinner."

Carson smiles.

"I'll cya tomorrow."

He leaps out the window, and snaps his wings open, flying away. Demon dinner. This should be interesting.
