The hunt

Rachel starts hearing noises and tries to open her eyes. She tries moving her hands but it seems impossible, as she comes back to her senses she finds herself tied to a chair. She starts feeling terrible pain in her head down to the shoulder and her right arm. She begins to recall the accident she had.

"Rose, Rose?"

Rachel yells, but stops after seeing her tied next to her.

''Are you ok? I heard them saying you had 7 stitches on your head." Rose asks her in a low sad voice.

"I am alright, but where are we?" as she looks around in a large warehouse full of small cabins, gun shelves, tables, computers, chairs and some strange objects. It looked like a combination of a corporate office and an army camp.

"They got us," Rose says in despair.

"What are they going to do to us?" Rachel asks.

"I am not sure, but it doesn't seem good to me. They were here, an hour ago, I could hear them but played dumb just to hear what they were planning. They were planning to go for a hunt or something, I couldn't understand." Rose tells softly.

"Hunt for what?"

Rachel asks as she tries to free herself.

"I am not sure, but something powerful. They were carrying a lot of guns and ammunition." Rose responds.

"We need to get out of here" Rachel tells Rose, as she struggles again.

"Don't waste your energy. We can't get out of here. This place is heavily guarded." Rose tells her.

"Guarded by whom? Who are these men? What do they want and what are they planning? Are you hiding something from me?"

Rachel yells.

"Don't make noise, they'll know that we are awake," Rose says in horror.

"Then tell me the truth! What's going on? Who's Kyle? And how do you know these people?"

Rachel yells again.

Rose stops for a second then goes, "Kyle is the guy that owns that armory and probably this place too. He is a rich guy and has made a clan who are killing these creatures apparently but also works as a rebel group against the government and military. I used to work for him too."

"Now that's some news." Rachel exhales.

"But what happened? Why do they want to kill you?" She looks at Rose in confusion.

"Kyle thinks that I cheated on the clan" Rose tells her.

"But what did you do?" Rachel asks again.

"I didn't do anything, I swear. The military seized one of his armories and captured some of his men and they think that I was the leak. They wanted to kill me and I ran away and have been on the run from them since then. I am sorry I put you in this situation"

Rose tells her as a tear falls on her lap.

"Don't worry. We'll be alright and get through this together"

Rachel says in a comforting voice.

The big metal gate of the warehouse opens with a creek and cars after cars start entering the premises carrying heavily armed men and some armored vehicles equipped with the latest weapons.

"Oh no, They are here" Rose moans softly.

People start coming out and men rush to an armored car to open its doors.

A tall, handsome black-haired guy steps out of the car and starts coming straight towards them.

"Who is this?"

Rachel asks gently.

"Kyle," Rose tells her.

"Hey sweetheart, I missed you so much"

Kyle says in a deep voice as he puts his hand on Rose's cheek.

"Stay away from her" Rachel roars.

"Oh, who is this wild cat, Rose?" He says smiling, running his fingers in her hair. The man starts laughing.

"Please don't hurt her, let her go, you have me, just let her go," Rose says shivering.

"Don't worry sweetheart, I hate violence'' Kyle responds as he pulls Rose's hair.

Rose screams in pain but manages to keep her tears from falling.

Rachel shouts "You call yourself a man? Beating a tied girl? Is that all you got? Untie me and let us have it one on one."

"Please Rachel, what are you saying?" Rose tries to calm her.

Kyle approaches Rachel and starts laughing.

"You know what, I like you, I like people who have the guts to stand up for others and that's why I like myself the most. Because I am fighting for you people who have no idea how to defend themselves but plan on stealing from me."

Kyle asks his men to look after them and provide them with food.

"We don't need anything, just let us go and we'll not say a word to anyone," Rachel says instantly.

"You don't get this honey, do you? You are not going anywhere. You are going to witness a historical moment in the next few days, and after that, you are going straight to hell." Kyle tells her with a killer smile and goes to his cabin.

Two men approach them untie them and take them to a closed cabin, provide them with food and sleeping bags, lock the door and leave.

"What were you planning to do?"

Rose asks Rachel.

"Well, I think I just saved us" Rachel responds as she tries to check her stitches she had received.

"Oh Lord" Rose sighs as she begins eating. She looks at Rachel who is in deep thought.

"Aren't you hungry? Have something" She says, offering some fruit to Rachel.

"No, I am not" Rachel turns away. "I am thinking about my dad, he must be looking for me."

Rose turns towards her "You have lost blood and need the energy to heal your wounds. Eat something. We'll find a way to get out"

"Yes, we will," Rachel responds as she gets up to take a peek from the glass walls.

Men are chatting, eating and cleaning their weapons. Some are working on computers and exchanging files.

"What are these people doing?" Rachel asks.

"They monitor the activity of these creatures and plan attacks on them."

Rose responds whilst eating.

"Well, if that's the case, Have they taken down any?" Rachel asks interestingly.

"No. Not to my knowledge." Rose replies.

"Alright, Interesting though" Rachel adds as she sits down.

They keep talking for a while before going to sleep.

The next morning, they wake up from the noise of engines revving.

People are preparing to leave and are packed with ammunition and weapons.

Kyle comes out of his cabin and gets in his armored vehicle with a machine gun mounted on its top.

They leave with Kyle's vehicle leading them.

Rachel and Rose watch from their cabin as the main entrance closes with a thud.

They start trying to find tools to open the cabin's door with but find nothing.

Rachel starts bashing a chair to the wall but all in vain.

As the day passes and the night approaches, Rachel becomes restless. She begins circling in the tiny cabin while Rose watches her silently.

"Calm down, Rachel," Rose says, concerned.

"I can't sit here and leave my dad all alone at the mercy of this world and these creatures. I need to take care of him" Rachel replies in a trembling voice.

"Don't worry dear, He'll be alright. We need to stay strong" Rose tells her as she gets up to hug her.

As they stand there, the gate starts opening again and vehicles begin to enter.

People start coming out and start unpacking and unloading. Rachel and Rose watch closely.

Kyle comes out of his vehicle and walks past their cabin waving at them.

Rachel bangs the glass wall to get his attention but he walks away without noticing,

After some time they gather at the center, placing hands at their chest and lowering their heads.

"What are they doing?" Rachel asks confused.

"They are mourning their dead and paying them respect," Rose explains.

"Interesting" Rachel murmurs.

Few days go by with the same events repeating.

Rachel is getting better, her stitches have been removed but she has completely lost her patience and cool.

She can't wait anymore.

One day, when a man comes to give them food, she tells him that she wants to meet Kyle and says it's urgent.

The man takes her message to his cabin but comes out with nothing to convey.

The next day when the man comes, Rachel knuckles him down with a powerful blow and gets out. Rose tries to stop her but she manages to come outside.

Men instantly respond and point their guns towards her. Rose keeps urging her to come inside again but she ignores her requests. Then a deep voice echoes "Stop, let her come" Kyle speaks standing at his cabin's door.

Rachel passes through the men and goes straight to his cabin.

"I can help you" she goes straight away without any delay.

Kyle responds "I see" and asks her to sit down.

"So how can you help me and with what?" He asks, smiling.

"I can help you take down these creatures" she responds swiftly.

"You don't even know what you are talking about. Do you have any idea what these creatures are? And how powerful they are?" Kyle asks her.

"I don't know but I will fight them and kill them and you'll let us go in return," She says firmly.

Kyle starts laughing and goes "Ok you have one chance to prove your worth, you'll accompany us tomorrow."

"Thanks" Rachel responds and comes back to her cabin.

As she comes, Rose starts asking Rachel questions.

She responds "I have a plan, they'll take us with them tomorrow and we'll escape from there."

Rose starts thinking and asks "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am," Rachel replies.

The next morning people start getting ready.

Rachel couldn't sleep at night and woke up Rose.

Kyle comes out and stops at their cabin, asks one of his men to open the door and asks Rachel to step outside.

Rachel grabs Rose's hand but Kyle stops her with a gesture of his hand "Only you kitty, not her. I don't trust her" he says.

Rachel gets drenched in a feeling of disappointment. She had underestimated him.

Left with no choice, she steps out, looks back at Rose and tells her she'll be back soon.

Kyle invites her to his vehicle, they get in and Kyle hits the accelerator.

His vehicle was fully customized inside equipped with a radar screen and a walkie-talkie through which he gave instructions.

They hit the road and after a few miles head south on an off-road terrain leading to a ghost town. As they enter, Kyle orders them to slow down and keep their eyes open.

Rachel could feel the adrenaline rush. This was her first time tracking a creature.

Kyle asks her to take control of the machine gun mounting on the top.

Rachel comes out of the vehicle through the sunroof and grabs the controls.

She was happy as she was going to experience it for the first time.

As they start going deeper in town, the radar screen starts beeping. Kyle orders his men to get ready.

The ground starts shaking and waves start shaking the vehicles.

Then out of nowhere a whirling wind came and swept almost six vehicles in the middle of a caravan from the side and threw them away. Rachel turns her head back and gets just a glimpse of this creature from the back.

Kyle starts shouting on the walkie-talkie, "Mission abort, mission abort, men down, men down, rush to base, rush to base."
