The large jet landed in the private airport as convoys filled the entire place guarding to and fro. They were armed and were in protective mode. Meredith stepped out as she walked down the large stairs of the jet.
Her heels clapped on the floor accordingly, and her pure white palazzo pants and her white long suit jacket placed on her shoulders covering the black sleeveless top gave her a boss-like aura. Rover stood directly beside her as she started walking towards the car.
The door of the black Benz G wagon was opened as she got in and they started moving. The convoys drove in front and behind her car and she was in between.
"Buzz, buzz".
Her phone made the sound as she let out a frustrating sigh. She just arrived in China for a business meeting and was not in the mood to get disturbed by some insignificant message.
She didn't even bother to check who texted her. She closed her eyes and relaxed her head backward. She was exhausted from the flight and is going through another stressful era. She just wanted a shut-eye for a bit. She wanted to breathe a little. Things had not been going her way lately and it had been disturbingly alarming.
She wanted to just think for a bit as her phone started vibrating nonstop. It was a phone call.
Roger glanced at her. He sat beside her in the car and saw the strain on her face. He knew that she was tired but there was nothing he could do about it. She had been so stressed lately and it was all because of Nicholas. If only he could just take away this pain she felt for a bit because she needed a breather from all this.
He had been by her side for 10 years now and he had seen how hard she had tried to control everything and put everything in place. He had watched her ageless beauty multiply over the years and tried his best to always look away, but he couldn't bear to see her in pain.
She frowned as she rolled her eyes. Who was she kidding? She'd never get any rest as long as Nicholas decided to neglect his responsibility. She had been trying to find him for a while now and it seem as if he had disappeared entirely from this world.
There was a frustrating look on her face as she cursed under her breath. Slowly, she picked up the phone placing it on her ear and wanting to give the person a piece of her mind for persistently bugging her phone.
She was going to sue the person if there was any law against calling more than once. She was silent as she heard the voice and quickly recognized it. Her eyes widened. She was shocked as tears welled in her eyes."Is your home still available for one more person?"
He asked. His breath was steady, his voice was low and deep, he waited patiently for her response but she disconnected the call immediately.
Her heart thudded heavily underneath her chest. She was panicking. She couldn't breathe.
"Stop the car". She ordered with a shaky voice. She shivered, her eyes were still wide from shock as the driver informed the car in front and behind the situation at hand.
The car came to a halt after a few seconds and bodyguards rushed out of their car to open the door for her.
Meredith stepped out trying to find composure as she was dizzy. She couldn't think, she completely forgot about the meeting she was in a hurry to attend. Her legs became weak as she stood. She couldn't find balance and as she was about to crash, Roger was quickly behind her. His hands were around her waist in an attempt to keep her still.
"Are you okay, ma'am?" Confusion was etched in his tone and he had a worried face.
"I-i can't breathe". She clung to his shirt as her hands stayed on his chest. He pulled her closer trying to keep her still as he turned her to face him. His hands gripped her both shoulders.
"Look at me, just look at me". His eyes were directly on hers as she stared upwards into his eyes. Her breath was heavy. "Now breath, slowly and calmly". His eyes stayed fixed on her as he gave her those orders.
She did exactly what he said as they both breathed in unison, his breath controlling hers. In a split second, she was calm. His eyes stayed fixed on her and his hands were still on her arm.
"Come here, you need some air". They were in the middle of nowhere, yes they were on the road and he was risking so many things right now. He was risking her security but he didn't care, he just wanted her to feel again, he just wanted her to release everything to the wind as it passes through her hair.
He pulled her to the green large field that was very windy and beautiful. What other thing could make someone relaxed or not nature? Its beauty is evergreen— just like hers.
He knew he was going to be in trouble for all these things, he knew that after all this, she would come back to her senses again. He just wanted to do this. He wanted to make her smile— even if he had never seen that before. He just wanted her to remember this day whenever she feels sad again.
She watched him take her hand in his as he pulled her to the neatly trimmed grass. She was confused at his actions, but at the moment, she didn't have the strength to even speak. Her eyes left his face as she looked at the view in front of her. It was as if it was naturally trimmed by nature. The breeze was soul talking. It was refreshing. It makes you forget everything and makes you feel at peace.
He watched her close her eyes as she raised her chin, feeling the breeze. He watched her release a deep sigh. He watched her feel the peace he had wanted her to feel for a long time now as a smile crept on his face. His eyes didn't leave her face, he wouldn't even mind if he watched her for all eternity.
He observed her every feature as he was lost in a trance. He had even forgotten that she was his boss, he forgot about the people behind them as he kept looking at this woman that had surprisingly caught his attention for the past years now
His eyes went from her light blonde hair that feel weightlessly on her back as it strolled down to her soft smooth cheeks and her light pink lips and her long chin. He watched her from the side but he already knew every part of her perfect face.
She felt his piercing stare. She knew he was watching her. She let out a soft sigh as she stared back at the view. Something about the look he gave her felt familiar. She was now back to herself again. Somehow, this whole view and breeze were so soothing and she loved it.
He was still in his thoughts when the phone gave that buzzing sound and called them out of hallelujah town. She turned her head to him slowly with a blank expression— she knew exactly what that was. He looked at the screen as he spoke.
"We should get going, ma'am". He said suddenly realizing his place. He was nothing but a P.A to her and nothing else. Even if he daydreamed about her, deep down he knew she would never look at him that way.
Come to think of it, he didn't even know what happened to her and why she reacted that way and suddenly had a panic attack. She became that way after a call and he didn't even bother to check because he was too engrossed in making sure that she was okay.
What happened to her?
They walked back to the car side by side as he opened the door and she got in. He turned around the other way and got in the car gesturing for the convoys to start moving.
They didn't say a word about what just happened. That was their little secret. She knew that he wasn't going to say a word about this. Roger is one of the most trusted people in her life and she happens to have some sort of relationship with him that was reliable.
His eyes were fixed on the other side of the road, avoiding her gaze by all means as she held her head up high.
One of the features of Meredith just like the dark man is pride and she never leaves her throne in that aspect. She is one of the proudest people on the planet. She looked to her side of the road through the mirror as she cleared her throat earning his attention. He turned his head to her but her face was still faced to the window.
She took a deep breath as she released it slowly and with a stutter she spoke.
"T-thank you". Her voice was low.
His eyes were still on her as a smile sprung up to his face.
Did she just say 'thank you to him?
