Chapter 70

Jacke's POV

M uncapped the second soda he had left earlier and explained that dragons are often portrayed as masters of certain aspects of life, explaining that for every concept that you could imagine, there was most likely a master of said concept in the form of a different colored dragon. Taydhes was the draconic aspect of hope and had been drowned in the void for so long that while under the control of La Bruja, he hadn't even remembered his own name. He was known as 'The Lightbringer' eons ago and was worshipped by many for his wisdom was treasured by many, and gifted to few. He and M had a long history, fighting side by side to overthrow unjust rulers, and at another point in time their kinship was so strong that M had taught Taydhes how to take a human form to make their jobs easier; However, something had happened that tore the two apart and they hadn't seen each other again since.

"Is that how Taydhes ended up in The Necropolis?" Milo asked, sitting on Gloria's lap, it was blatantly obvious how much they cared for each other, it was so much more than love, even if that was the only word for it. It was very similar to me and Alex, yet so much different, it was like they had both been isolated for so long that they couldn't bear to be without the other.

"Indeed, it was during the Second World War, and it led to my ruin; I had become so reliant on Taydhes that I didn't think I could bear without him, and yet we split anyways, we thought for the better. Turns out, it ruined both of us at our very core, and it was a miracle that we were able to return to our roots."

"I think there's a key detail you're neglecting to mention, M," Taydhes mumbled through a chuckle, and M looked back at the beast in confusion before T winked, and apparently that was enough to juggle his memory.

"Oh...right, this won't be easy, but I only call Taydhes 'He' because of 'his' aggressive nature, but Taydhes is actually female," He said as a slight blush crept upon his face, and it became apparent that their connection was a lot heavier than he was letting on.

"I'm not going to say it, Mallow, but we're all thinking it," I said before standing up and heading to the mini-fridge, I grabbed a drink for myself and one for Alex before sitting back down next to Alex and handing her drink to her.

"You may not, but I sure will say it," Alex said before turning back to M, "You fucked a dragon, didn't you?! You pulled a D&D Bard move, didn't you?!"

"I can neither confirm nor deny, your mate's claims, Jacke. I think she may have hit her head a bit too hard, back in The Necropolis. Besides, if anything it would've been me on the receiving end."

That was all that needed to be said for Alex to spit her drink out, and for me to die right then and there laughing my ass off. Milo covered his mouth in shock, while Gloria was smirking at him with a 'You know you'd do the same' look.

"What is it with us and picking the shy, innocent-looking ones, Alex?"

"Bold of you to assume I picked his goofy ass, he was picked for me, and while I couldn't be more thankful, I still don't know why he was picked for me," Alex said, she didn't care why Jacke was picked by the moon for her, but she sure would like to know.

"While I don't know the answer to that one, I do have a hunch, if you'll allow me to indulge you," Mallow said while standing up to stretch, sipping on his drink and pacing while deep in thought.

"Sure, why not?"

"Jacke, do you remember 'Soul Eater'? The anime about 'Death's Weapon Meister Academy'?"

"Of course I do, it was one of the first shows I watched when I got into anime in the first place."

"Well, in that show they elaborate on the relationship between the weapon and its meister. A relationship similar to how you two found each other, or even Milo and Gloria. You'll have to bear with me as I haven't watched it all the way through, but as far as I know, there's a sort of compatibility between the soul of the weapon and the soul of its meister; And there's a bond between them, as there's a level of faith in one another."

"Makes sense to me, but how does that tie into Jacke and I?"

"I'm getting there. When we were in the Necropolis, Alexis ended up taking the wheel from Alexandria partway through, as Alexis' instincts are better honed for survival, whereas Alexandria is better for leading and Social situations. Almost identical to the relationship between Jack and Jake, when fused it's Jacke, but you two and split, can't you?"

"Yeah, it's something we used for brainstorming, what with the inherent differences in our personalities."

"Exactly, and while Alexis and Alexandria may not be able to 'Split' per se, it's blatantly obvious when Alexis is at the wheel instead of Alexandria. Your eyes change color, your stance is different, I could go on; I have a theory, that that's the reason Jacke was chosen for you, Alex. Jacke is able to shift who's in control, or even split altogether, to aid you with your needs. Whereas Jacke's only real 'need' is you, seeing as he's a crime boss, is you."

"That actually makes a lot of sense, M. How'd you come up with that?" Alex asked as she looked at Jacke, content blatantly written all over her face.

"I don't know, maybe I'm smarter than I look, maybe I'm just a crazy guy rambling on simple nothings. You'll never know," He said with a smirk written on his face, only for Taydhes to smack him on his ass.

"Be nice, M, don't make me tell the story of '69."

"Is that a song reference or a sexual innuendo?" Jacke asked as Alex started laughing, finding solace in the fact that there was always a bigger fish.

"That's for us to know, and for you to forget you ever heard," Mallow said before sitting back down and lighting a cigar that Jacke had thrown him, "Let's just say that there's always more than meets the eye of the tiger."

"I hate your metaphors, M, I hope you know that," Jacke said before lighting his own cigar and getting a nod of agreement from Alex.
