The Cost of Silence

"Hey, I'll see you at lunch,"

"Ok, see you later,"

Erica Wilson kissed her boyfriend of two years Jacob Harper goodbye and then turned and walked off towards the stairwell; with her was her cousin and best friend Crystal Wilson, the two of them were going to Physics. As they entered the stairwell, they talked about their upcoming trip; the two weren't paying that much attention until without warning, Andrew Prescott stepped in front of them blocking their path.

Erica looked stunned as he stepped closer to her, "Can I help you with something Andrew," she asked.

Andrew's face was blank, and his voice was emotionless as he answered her, "Yes, you can help me by dying," he said, plunging a knife into her abdomen.

Erica felt the blade pierce her skin and cut through her stomach, she tried to scream but couldn't as blood filled her mouth; she barely registered Crystal screaming as she felt Andrew remove the knife before stabbing her again and again.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Andrew stopped stabbing her. Erica felt herself stubble back into the corner of the stairwell before sliding down the wall; she noticed Crystal was gone, probably to get help. It was then that Andrew leaned down and whispered something she would never forget, "You should have noticed me," he said, he then turned and ran off leaving her alone.

The girl didn't register anything else until she noticed that her brother Aaron and a teacher Mrs. Cain was there; she couldn't hear what they were saying as she felt tired; the last thing she saw before the darkness came over her was their terrified faces.

The following story is fiction but is meant to bring light to a serious crime that happens every day.
