I had one of those 'sinking pits in the stomach' feelings as I realized that I had to get inside that temple. I couldn’t just walk away and let Gus get his hands on the next Piece. I’d come this far, I couldn’t walk away without trying. There was the whole fate of the world thing to consider.
“Can we go home now?”
Oh yeah. Sally.
I couldn’t ask a six year-old to head into battle with me. No matter how dead she was.
“Sally, I need to do something. Something important.”
“Do you have to pee?”
“No. No, I don’t. I have to go inside that temple.”
She tilted her head and looked at me, confused. This was not what she’d expected. “Go inside?” She asked.
“Yes. There’s something in there that I need.”
She took this in, then looked around at the pile of dirt, at the jungle, at the temple, then back at me. “I want to go with you.”
