June 20 4:37 AM (Kaito's Birthday)
"AHHHHHGH" Kaito shrieked as he jolted from his sleep. His breathing was heavy, and he woke up with a cold sweat, as if he had just run a marathon.
'Was that all just a dream...?' he thought to himself, stumbling out of his Lightning McQueen bed with his favorite figurine gripped tightly in his hand.
"Ma? Where are you? I had a bad drea-"
"Oh really?" His mother interrupted, while grinning at him with all the teeth she could show, slowly turning her gaze towards him. Something seemed off about her, but Kaito couldn't place his finger on it. She sat in her usual spot, the corner of the couch with one foot hanging down and the other neatly swept under her. Her hands were clasped together in her lap and her night gown was as pink as Kaito remembered. Even though she just interrupted him, he didn't think too much of it because the dream he had made him miss his mom heavily, so he collected himself and made his way towards her.
Every step felt heavier and heavier, like something was weighing him down but he kept pushing. His mother was still sitting on the couch with that toothy grin, her eyes following Kaito as he made his way.
"Ma? Are you alrigh-"
"Oh dear, why don't you give mommy a hug?" She said in somewhat of a scratchy voice, disrupting his sentence once again. This caused Kaito to freeze in place, because not only did she cut him off once, but twice, which was something she never did. Something else caught Kaito off guard, and it was the fact that she addressed herself as 'mommy'. Now there was one thing about his mom, and it was that she hated the word mommy. She says it's because it sounds weird, but their father says it's because she had some bad history with her own mother, who she once called mommy.
His "mother" continued to stare at him with her wide smile, slowly raising her hand and signaling him to come closer. Kaito was very hesitant at this point because his mother was doing things that his actual mother wouldn't. Not to mention the fact that his sister and father are no where to be seen, it was just him and his mother. He took one step back-
"Come here" she twitched, her smile simmering down into a petrifying glare.
"Don't make mommy repeat herself." She continued in a cynical tone that started to sound like someone else. Someone that wasn't his mother. Her sweet voice started morphing and Kaito began to panic.
Once he took another step back, his "mother" dashed at him hollering "COME HERE NOW, GIVE ME YOUR POWER!" while manically laughing and latching on to everything around her to propel herself towards Kaito.
Kaito got into a deep panic and retreated back into his room running as fast as he could, slamming and locking the door behind him, right before she could get to him. Tears started streaming down his face as he kept his back to the door, jolting at every bang.
'Why is this happening' he thought, trying to get a gist of the current event. 'Who really was that, and why do they want my powers? I haven't even gotten them yet…' he continued to ponder.
"You'll see soon..." his so called mother said behind the door, the banging slowly coming to a stop. "I'll show you exactly why I want what you have."
Right after she said that, his eyes started to glow a purplish white color, and he started foam from the mouth. He was slowly losing control over his body and felt sharp pains while his veins filled with some type of power. His muscles started convulsing and twitching like they had been irritated by something other worldly.
The sounds coming out of Kaito mouth were absolutely horrid and it sounded like he was drowning with all of those gurgles, but that didn't stop that weird entity that looked like his mother from laughing like some maniac who's lost their meds. The pain soon started to become unbearable and the tears that were once thin and sleek became rivers pooling on the ground.
"GRuggl… grlll.. GRUGHL…. GRAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH" He cried, jouncing from his bed.
"Hey, are you okay??" A soft voice said rushing towards him.
"Sarah! Go get the meds!! It looks like he is in pain!" They continued, seeming like they were rushing for something.
Kaito was lying in his bed, eyes widened with tears, snot, and spit coming out of his face. He looked like he just saw something that frightened him, which he did. His breathing was heavy, and his body shook violently with fear. 'W-what was that...?' He thought, still frozen in fear and confusion.
"Here ya go kid, this is to help you feel better." The voice said in such a sweet tone. Kaito looked to his side and there stood a doctor, with long brown hair tucked into a high bun. He was fairly tall, about 5,11 and he wore glasses that looked like they belonged to some 73 year old man. They sat on his face nicely and his smile was so welcoming. Kaito started to calm down and he accepted the medicine with a soft "Thank you…". After taking the medicine, he looked around the room and he noticed a heart monitor, a television (playing some random kids show), a few chairs on the side with a sink and bathroom. It was a hospital room, but why? He turned towards the doctor who was now writing something down on a clipboard and asked "Why am I here?" With a confused and worried look. The doctor looked up at him and his smile turned to a frown. "It's a long story kid, but for now, worry about feeling better and getting some rest. You'll need it a lot." He said, trying his best to smile as he did before.
Kaito looked at his doctor with confusion, not knowing what type of response to give so he just returned an awkward smile, rolled over in his sheets and coiled up, still questioning what happened to him just 15 minutes ago. Was his mother truly dead? Was it all just a dream? He closed his eyes, hoping that this nightmare would end, slowly succumbing to his drowsiness.
