Chapter 4

Leaving my capsule was as easy as entering it. With the push of a single button.

The door of the capsule opened and what I saw shocked me a little bit more than it should have.

What awaited me was total silence.

Only the light breathing of three sleeping people could be heard.

But I could probably scream at them, and they still would be not waking up.

That was a scary thought.

I slowly walked to the table in the middle of the room and took out a soft drink.

After drinking halt of it and putting it back in the mini fridge I exhaled for a long time.

"Hey God, are you mad at me for easily accepting my new role as the follower of another god?"

What came was a long silence. Not acknowledging my prayer. I waited.

Maybe he wanted to ignore me, or maybe he just didn't hear me?

I felt my own body. The spark of divinity was within me. The warmth of the mother spread my entire body.

The only major difference between seraphim and humans is this spark of divinity. Without it, even angels would be no more that humans.

Now that even my original body acquired this divine spark does that mean that I stopped being human?

In a sense my old self died in that other world.

I died and was reborn as an angel.

"The gods are mysterious in their ways."

With that I sank into slumber while leaning on that table.

While not in the most comfortable position, it was relaxing to hear the breathing of my family.

"Hey you big dummy wake up!!!"

With that shout I jolted upwards.

"Ellyyyyyy, let your brother sleep in peace. I really need that right now."

I kept hugging the table defensively.

"Mom and dad cooked for us. They just didn't want to wake you up as they left their capsules"

She crossed her arms and walked out of the room.

Everyone took consideration of my poor sleeping self.

Slowly I made my way to the kitchen where my family waited for me before starting to eat.

My arrival was the starting shot that everyone waited for.

I just chuckled and also began feasting on the great looking chicken tenders.

Great choice mom. Great choice.

We all kept eating in silence until everyone was finished.

After putting everything away we sat back down and began telling stories of our first gaming session.

As expected of my sister she was the first to franticly tell her story. The questionnaire took her forever. She said if she counted right that over 50 questions were asked before the game finally let her play.

What she didn't expect was her race. She became a fire elemental. Being pure fire just felt right in her opinion.

In her few hours of playing she caused several forest fires as well as beginning her first steps in the path of animal cocking.

I expected that fire elementals would not have a sense of taste, but my sisters' descriptions of finely roasted boar sounded different.

The story of my mother was different of what I expected. Her questionnaire was over very fast.

Contrary to my sister, my mother only answered three questions in total.

With the three questions

"Do you like forests?"

"Do you like magic?"

"Would you consider yourself a noble person?"

The angle that was overlooking my mother quickly made her a high elf with an absurd aptitude for magic.

And here I thought I was getting a preferential treatment.

She spawned into the capital of the high elves and received an all in all welcoming evening.

After I felt that my mother's story was finished, I quickly jumped in.

"I want to go next. I think I did something that will shock you."

Without further ado I started gesturing wildly.

"I managed to die while having the questionnaire…"

The faces of my family were filled with shock and bewilderment.

"I know. I know. Because of that I couldn't decide between the choices for my race. I wanted either be a winged person or a cool looking wolf."

Some nods could be seen as well as a casual "Good choice" by my father.

"I somehow died when I was trying to decide and got them somehow both. I am now a druid that can change between wolf and winged person."

"BULLSHIT" shouted my father.

"And I thought I wasn't alone in the club for failed characters. You died and it worked out for you?

You know, I answered my dumb 15 questions and sill got to be human. I even look the same as in real life."

"You want me to believe that this is fair?"

It was good that the table was cleared before, because my father wanted to flip it right now.

Only with the rest of us, we were able to hold the table in place.

My father was furious at this point. Boiling with anger even at us and the devs.

Not only were we given more or less questions than him, but we all got different races than human.

Only he did not.

His anger was only quelled when the doorbell of our house rang.

As the closest to the exit I went to get it.

"Delivery for an Alexander here" said the delivery man through the door..

"Coming."

Hurried I made my way towards the door.

I was not expecting anything, but it wouldn't be the first time my sister orders something over my name.

It had nothing to do with age since we are twins but rather that she shares her shopping account with our mother, and she orders some weird stuff sometimes that are better unnoticed by our parents.

Opening the door I was confused as the delivery man held a present basket.

The kind that you gift to new neighbors or to someone at a wedding.

The basked contained some sweets as well as a card. While pure white on the outside, the inside contained writings in dark gold.

The card read.

"Congratulations Alexander. Don't worry, we are not mad at you"

-you know who

I looked back at the mailman and thanked him.

with that he sprinted back to his truck and drove of fast.

"Alex what is it? Are you coming back in?"

My mother worriedly asked.

"Y- Yes. I'm coming back in."

Is that a direct message from God?

Angels, Gods. How can my life become even more messier?

Tell me God. Why me?

Going back to my family, I quickly wanted to change the topic of the conversation.

I can't risk exposing secrets right now. Laying low should be my goal.

"Are you fluffy?"

Elly asked calmly.

"Heh? Why do you ask?"

"C- Can I pet you in your Wolf form when I see you?"

Elly asked anxiously.

"Aren't you made out of pure fire? I don't know how much fire resistance I have, but touching an elemental is something I would not consider for a while."

She smirked at me as If I was stupid.

"Bow down before your awesome sister! I can control the heat of my flames and can even feel things. I won't burn you."

I only had memories of fire elementals being things of pure destruction. At least out of the perspective of adventurers. It seems as if a lot of races are more complex than I thought.

Memo to myself; Research what the special things my races can do.

"To answer your question. Yes, I am fluffy. Unbelievably fluffy. To sleep in a curled-up ball as a wolf is relaxing. I tried that two times now.

First on the grassy field that I was born in, and the second time was in an inn."

Elly and mom just had smiles on their faces.

I could practically read their minds. Both thought that I was being cute.

"Dad, do you want to tell us about your character? Maybe being human is not bad at all in that world."

Finally I could shift the focus from myself. I would say I avoided the topic of angels quite well with my fluffy body.

"It is not as bad as I make it out to be. Still, I wanted to be of a strong race and to be tall and well built so that I would have the perfect starting point for a battlemage build."

My father let his shoulder hang low.

A questioning smile could be seen on his face.

"To a certain extend I got what I wanted. A burly build, taller than all of the people I saw today.

Packed with a lot of muscle others would have to train years for.

The mages at the mage tower I went into wanted to call the guards at first because they didn't believe I was there to learn.

I can see that happening quite often in my future…"

My dad has a point. Character appearance is important. My mother as a beautiful elf is a good example. Who will say no to a beautiful elf?

Contrary to that my sister will be feared. At the higher levels, she should be able to take on at least a human like appearance to not scare off anyone.

Until then she will most likely play solo and get stronger. Maybe do some dungeons.

"I wanted to ask something."

I meekly spoke up.

"Do we already have the percentages of the race allocation? I wanted to know how many have gotten humans. Technically even I got to be half a human. The only difference being my wings."

The one taking the spotlight now was my mom.

Aside from preparing food and letting me sleep, she was pretty active in information gathering.

"You do know that the capsules work somehow with our DNA? Your capsule will always log you in with your own account without needing you to make decisions.

Some people online tried changing capsules and it worked without issue."

Well duh mom. DNA? Good guess but dead wrong.

It was not farfetched to believe that our DNA would be registered.

To instantly get to the right answer that it is our souls that form the connection would be considered a conspiracy theory at best.

"The company Limitless, that created "choices" made forum accounts for us. When you log in for the first time, a few things are gathered about yourself, and a resulting forum account will be created.

Your given name in the world as well as your race are on public display."

That is convenient. I have to give that to the gods. They thought quite a bit about this whole project and how to make people believe it's a game.

"But I am not sure what the game will tell about your race Alexander. You have two. Does the game pick the first race you chose, or will it be something different?

Go pick up your phone quickly fore me please and tell us."

"Wait a second, I'll be right back."

Going upstairs to my own room I picked up my phone.

200+ unread messages… That was to be expected.

Not only my family enjoyed gaming. In fact, most of my friends were complete addicts to video games. My core group of friends all purchased their own capsules.

For now I ignored the notifications and went to the website of the forum.

The design of the website was simple with only a few buttons to press.

There was not much content you could read without an account.

Under the login page were the instructions how to log in. Contrary to the old log in design, this forum allowed log in through the capsules itself.

You just have to plug in your phone or pc through a cable to the capsule and log in.

The capsule detects and whitelists the device for the forum under your account.

The procedure was convenient.

After logging in and directly logging out again the forum changed drastically.

Before, you could only see the news from the developers and some highlighted post.

Now, the forum was divided in different sections such as a marketplace as well as the standard forum.

Under the account tag I looked at my general information.

Name: Alexander

Displayed forum race: Highland Wolf

So it really took the first race I chose.

I took my smartphone with me and went back to the dining table where my family still discussed my fathers situation.
