Chapter 14

What was he going to do? They surely had questions about the broken promise of not telling anyone about the abilities.

He told his entire family, and they even embraced their powers to the brim.

"That is right. My name is Alexander and I come today to talk to the gods."

The office lady shuffled her stack of papers with a speed that was exceptional for even his eyes and stopped when she found the single paper she was looking for.

"Right. You have an appointment for 14 o clock. You are a bit early. We like people being on time here."

Alexander was confused and scared as well. When did he make an appointment? He did not even pray to the gods.

Taking out his phone, he looked at the time. 13:50… The gods made me wait ten extra minutes on purpose…

They knew what time he would arrive at the temple. At least close to the exact time he believed.

Another unbelievable thing was that he had reception in the mega church.

Why did phone signals work here?

Looking back at the office lady angel, Alexander asked if he could wait in the meeting room already.

She gladly complied with his wish and took him to a circular formation 20 meters behind her desk.

"Just see this teleport formation as an elevator to different rooms in this building. This is a slim version of the main formation and only specific rooms are available through it.

For the future please use the main formation that is a few kilometers away from the main entrance."

Future visits huh? Even she did seem to know more about his situation than himself.

He just wanted answers. Why did everyone just keep him in the dark all the time?...

Stepping on the formation, Alexander questioningly looked at the office lady.

"Yes, yes. Wait a little while. I have to activate this formation from my desk.

Have a good meeting with the gods, Alexander the seraphim."

Activating was easy. She just pressed a big red button.

The formation activated and before he could question the red button, Alexander found himself in a small room.

Everything happened so fast. Normally he was the one who would talk less than he needed to.

To get the same treatment from another person did not feel right.

The small room was just what he expected from a corporate meeting. Just in a slightly older aesthetic. A large decorated old table with a green tablecloth was surrounded by wooden chairs that had the same green colored cushions.

This room in comparison to the church he was in, was small.

He thought that even giants could fit through the door at the entrance.

The great hall he was in at the beginning only strengthened that thought.

Now the room he was in was only barely able to fit enough people in it for a meeting.

It was cozy and rustical. That was the only thing that was great about this room.

The time quickly passed as Alexander scanned everything in the room.

The modern times spoiled him with extravagant furniture, so he was feeling like in a museum when standing in the room. Everything looked older than he was used too.

At the other side of the room, a formation similar of what Alexander came through, lit up.

Two woman entered the room through the teleportation formation and walked towards alexander.

"Hello little Alexander. I am the equivalent of the goddess of creation for this world. My name is Liliane, but I don't mind if you call me just Lilia."

Alexander and the goddess Lilia shook hands while the other beauty walked closer to them.

"Hello. I am the Norse God Freya. My job over the years changed from a mighty God to a mere secretary of this useless God beside you."

Lilia glared at Freya and took three chairs from the table and placed them in a circle.

"This is a rather large meeting room for three people. Please just sit here."

Not really caring for Freya's comment, Lilia sat in one of the chairs and invited Alexander to do the same.

"First and foremost. I am terribly sorry that you even have to do this job. Outside of the first angels that I have created, you are the first involuntary angel in a long time."

She looked apologetic. While also looking a bit more at Alexander.

"You have decided on your own path and cannot even be compared anymore to a normal angel.

When you foolishly declared your order of seraphim, I first became speechless by the audacity to even create something like that.

But when I look at you now, that name, it fits you well."

Alexander started sweating midway through her sentence. He knew he was quite bold. But that was something that he only thought would affect him in the other world, not in his own.

"I am sorry goddess Lilia. It was just something I came up because I did not want to call myself a paladin. And my race is really seraphim. Therefore, I just took on that name and called it an order."

Freya intercepted him and began talking as he was nearly finished.

"We know that already Alexander. It is just that we don't have something like the order of seraphim anymore.

Once upon a time it was essentially that, but with time passing, more and more seraphim disappeared or fell in battle.

Today, the forces of heaven are not what they used to represent anymore."

Now Alexander was all ears again. With the regression of buildings, he saw in the early time zones, he had guessed that something happened.

He just had no Idea what had happened or on what scale the gods were involved.

"Let history be history Freya. As you might expect Alexander, something terrible happened in our world a long time ago.

We were essentially unable after that moment to directly interfere with the world anymore.

Things changed a lot after the first Armageddon.

To keep it short. Our world got overloaded on mana and the core of the world did die."

Did she really just say that the world died a long time ago?

Alexander processed this information slowly.

He knew that there was next to no mana in the world anymore. But legends of mythical beasts and other magical things were still present through texts.

"I have a question. How exactly did the world die and what does the game choices have to do with getting mana back into the world? And after that the reason why I am here. What is my job in all of it?"

The goddess Lilia looked into the ceiling while she began talking about a long distant war.

In this war, many outside forces tried controlling the earth to harvest its bountiful reserves.

After many long battles, a battalion of demons took root in one part of the earth and built connection portals to different realms.

Through these, legions upon legions of enemies entered the battlefield.

At that time the world core tried stopping these portals by just not emitting mana in these lands.

Slowly but surely these forces placed portals on every continent on earth.

World cores were special entities. They felt what was going on and acted appropriately.

The core of earth was put in a critical situation and decided to completely shut off the mana output that went into the lands.

Only a few select cities remained stable enough environments for mana.

For a few months this was fine. The forces of demons slowly lost more and more ground as they were pushed back.

Then the most unfortunate thing of all happened unexpectedly. A solar flare hit the earth and with it, mana also entered the core.

The core that was holding much more mana in itself than ever before because it could not emit it into all of the continents was suddenly filled with even more unrefined mana.

It tried to hold it all together but failed midway through.

The core was a physical storage of mana. Constantly generating more mana.

When trying to suppress the influx of mana, even more mana was generated.

The balance shifted constantly until the core could not hold it anymore.

With a rushed decision, the core build a barrier around the earth that kept the supernatural out.

For that barrier, the core used all and more mana that it had.

The last thing the cores consciousness did, was to make sure that the barrier would be supplied with most of the mana that the core was generating.

Even the gods did not know what was going on, but the distinction did not end with demons. Gods were also kept out.

The mana that was still within the few parts of the earth the core allowed it to be ran out quickly.

That was the end of the story that Lilia wanted to tell him.

"So, how do I come into the picture then? As far as I know, I can use my abilities here. And my family also used mana before. How come we are not suppressed in the world."

Alexanders questions made it easy for the goddess. He seamlessly changed to the right topic she also wanted to talk about.

"You use different mana. It was a rushed decision from the core and also a sloppy one. It disregarded some basic concepts of mana.

Only demons and supernatural's were affected by the barrier.

The thing that was disregarded is that it only took its only mana signature into consideration.

Everything else is permitted.

Take your mother for example. She uses the mana from the sun. We also don't know why the core let that one through."

Lilia sounded rather angry when talking about the core.

"Our hope is that the mana you players carry over from the other world is slowly absorbed by the core and the consciousness of the core finally gets reborn."

Alexander finally understood. The chaos the players would cause was something they could not interfere with. Even if they wanted to, they could not.

Only someone like Alexander could display his powers without restriction and get away with it.

"I think I understand my role better now. That was really informative. Just one quick question before we continue. If gods and angels are usually suppressed by the barrier, how come that they can get the souls of the dead?"

Lilia laughed out loud.

"Didn't I already tell you that the barrier is weak against foreign mana?

Angels that were created after the disaster were ordered to only rely on the stars mana and not let a single whisp of earths mana enter them.

Sadly, the mana from the stars is weak in comparison to the earths mana. The angles are therefore weak."

Made sense. He would have done the same.

"Many powerful gods and angels left us after we were banished. Not seeing hope in the world or simply not caring for it enough, they left for other inhabited stars and started their own new lives.

I do not blame them for it, but most of my own children left.

That was the reason I was so enraged by the whole "order of seraphim" thing."

Alexander felt sorry. He did not expect simple words from him to have this much of an effect on a goddess. Words could hurt much more than swords sometimes.

"Coming back to a thing you said earlier Lilia, how do I differ from angels exactly? You said I was not comparable anymore to normal angels. What did you mean by that?"

Lilia though a little bit of what she should say. Meanwhile Freya conjured three cups of tea and a small table for them.

After taking a sip, she finally began telling him what he wanted to hear.
