The top floor receptionist waved to Katie as she walked out from the elevator. Ron was there too gossiping with the receptionist and an employee from HR. The employee was telling a story about a problem the head of HR, Mrs. Eugenia had encountered in hiring the CEO's new assistant. She had hired a mysterious worker or something instead of the candidate that had applied for the job. An intern discovered the disparity while filing the application, cover letters and CV, things started getting fishy when the original candidate who should have been interviewed for the job came in a week later to check up with her application.
"Zoey Kingsman and Zoe King. Almost the same don't you think? Mrs. Eugenia offered Zoey Kingsman the job but hired Zoe King instead. Isn't that strange?
"Not really, she's too old to see what's written on the papers" Katie mocked.
"Or maybe its destiny and Zoe's meant to be here" Ron shrugged.
"Or it's really fishy" Katie snickered.
"Does the boss know?"
"I don't think so" Ron said
"What about Zoe? What does she have to say?" Katie wondered.
"Haven't asked"
They were still talking when Olga showed up with a worried look in her eyes. Katie hushed up the group so Olga wouldn't overhear them, she was Zoe's friend after all.
"Has anyone seen Zoe?" she asked.
"She's in the CEO's office" Ron answered.
"The CEO is in?" Katie perked up immediately.
"Yes, you have something to report?"
"Not really but he's supposed to be at the golf course today"
"To meet a client?"
"No just for fun, it's his personal day off"
"You know the Boss's schedule too well Katie" Olga commented with an accusing look.
"Well I'm his assistant"
"So am I and Ron. The CEO keeps us in the dark about his private life…for a reason"
"Whatever" Katie rolled her eyes like a delinquent.
Olga was still not satisfied about Zoe's disappearance.
"How long has she been in the CEO's office?"
"A while, maybe thirty minutes or more. I doubt that she's still in there it's been long. Maybe she's gone for a walk or something" Ron assured.
"Zoe hardly leaves the office except she's going for lunch or a bathroom break" Olga said unconvinced.
"Or maybe she's been fired" Katie chipped in.
"What do you mean fired?"
"Only one thing gets women fired quickly around here Olga" Katie snickered.
"Is there something going on?" Olga asked distressed. She hated when Katie knew something she didn't.
They both kept their lips sealed until the arrival of the elevator stole their attention away to the chubby blonde woman strolling out of it. Her eyes were seethed in rage and something undefined. She matched into the hallway, past the reception and was heading straight to the CEO's office before the receptionist called to her.
"Excuse me ma'am, are you lost?" the receptionist asked.
The woman stopped and turned around swiftly. She took a deep breath to muster enough strength to scream out loud, "Where the hell is Zoe King?!"
* * *
Zoe was still with Victor, his hands had found a resting place stapled to the wall beside her neck while his eyes searched her soul for answers he couldn't find.
"Answer me" the CEO demanded.
"I don't know Fjeer" Zoe whispered with a shaky voice.
"Liar!"
Victor fumed as Zoe reeled back in shock. She had always known something like this would happen. Her boss would think little of her if he knew she had entered his company through connections and if he found out he would be truly pissed like the way he was acting right now. But Zoe wasn't going to tell him about Beth instead she was thinking of how to escape. She tried to move out from his grasp several times but Victor wouldn't let her.
He already loved holding her hostage by the wall and was also quickly becoming fond of her sweet feminine smell.
"You don't know Fjeer? Then is it someone else?" Victor laughed.
He was enjoying himself like a big bad wolf that had caught a little cute doe-eyed fawn. Every second she hesitated to answer his question he drew nearer with a dark lustre in his eyes. He tried his possible best to stop himself from caressing the soft features of her cheek. Like any other man who met a woman he was attracted to, Victor wanted to know her, who she was and what she was like. He wouldn't let her appearance or the naïve confused look in her eyes fool him, she looked like a sweet angel but it could all be a trick. Either way, if she was sinister or not he didn't care, it wouldn't stop him from doing what he wanted.
Victor decided to take another look at her again, a close one this time. Her white shirt had the first two button open, that was an offense. Most of his female employees did it but he never cared, he was never aroused until today.
He looked at her skirts, they were decently above the knees but to Victor they were short. It had molded her waist too nicely that her legs rolled out seductively like butter.
Zoe could feel his eyes roaming all over her only to shiver and retaliate by looking down at his shoes. They were sporting shoes the kind for cool sports like golf. She had tried to look him in the face but not the eyes. She knew she wasn't capable to handle whatever she saw in it. His dark eyes, his chiseled face and dubious smiles were nothing like the pictures she'd seen on the internet. Everything about him was dark and dangerous and yet here she was in a surreal and unbelievable situation with him.
This was the first time she was coming into personal contact with him and yet he could ask so many unreasonable questions while nothing intelligible came out of her mouth.
Her heart was beating tremendously fast but then a sudden knock on the door stole his concentration for a second.
"Go away!" Victor screamed at the door impulsively, he wasn't done with this strange creature.
"Boss there's a visitor for Zoe King" Victor recognized Ron's voice and sighed, who on earth could that be? He wondered.
On hearing her name, Zoe came back to life. She used the opportunity to escape his clutches by jumping out of his hold taking him by surprise and bewilderment almost knocking him over as she ran out the door.
It was over, the weird interrogation with her boss and her job were all over. She couldn't face him again, the tension was something she hadn't experienced in her life. The proximity of his chiselled face, wicked grin and sinful mouth had only made her weak in the knees. She had stood there like an idiot while the CEO watched her tremble as if he enjoyed himself loving every minute of it. Zoe hated herself for been too shy at times.
She was out of his office and speed walking down the hallway when she saw the chubby blonde woman.
"Beth!" she screamed out surprised.
"Zoe!" Beth said throwing her arms open to hug her best friend,
"You were back from Fiji? Why didn't you call?"
"I was trying to get across to you for some days but couldn't. I went home and met your mom, she told me you were working here" Beth looked around to make sure no one heard what she was about to say next. "Zoe can you please tell me what you're doing in this office?"
"What do you mean?" Zoe asked confused.
"I mean working here with Victor Baelish of all people, the CEO himself" Beth inquired.
"Didn't you get me a job here with him?" Zoe answered in dread.
"No of course not!" She whispered loudly.
"But you told me-
"I told you I got you a job at Victor Baelish's company, yes but not at the top floor of the office with the CEO himself but in another division with my older sister's husband's brother"
"What?!" Zoe gasped. How could she make such a mistake? She was so dead.
"I called you and I sent you a text on how to get to his office" Beth said with certainty opening her bag to search for her phone. She brought it out and scrolled to Zoe's chats expecting to see the message delivered but it wasn't. Beth had typed it out but forgotten to press the enter key and the last time they chatted on mobile was over a week ago.
"Oh my God, it's my fault! I was in la la land having a great time"
"So I'm not supposed to be here?"
"Yes"
Dread settled in Zoe's eyes as she began to think about what would happen next. She had been invisible so far and wouldn't have been much of a deal if she left and switched departments but the CEO had seen her, and of all days today. He had called her into her office and accused her of been sent by someone she didn't know. He knew she didn't belong there and her days were numbered.
She didn't waste much time, Zoe updated Beth about the current situation she experienced with the CEO only to get a shocked reaction from her.
"Woah! That's crazy. Fjeer is one scary dude and his cousin the CEO is not so different."
"Please tell me you know Victor Baelish personally" Zoe asked Beth with tears in her eyes. They were almost about falling out. She could only hope Beth knew him even if it was a tiny bit. Someone needed to explain things to him and that someone was definitely not her.
"No I don't. He runs in a social circle a little bit higher than mine"
"How do we explain this to him?"
"Explain?" Beth looked at Zoe as if she had instantly changed her clothes into a clown's costume "Zoe we can't explain to Victor Baelish, the CEO looks cool but he's scary as hell. And now he thinks I am the one who sent you to seduce him because I referred you for the job" Beth's eyes widened in fear.
"Then what do we do?"
"We need to run" Beth said quickly as the thought flew into her head. Zoe was unsure but she couldn't disagree with Beth who was advising her to get her things from the office and flee with her.
"Are you sure?"
"Don't ask questions or I'm gonna leave you behind" Beth said taking a step towards the elevator.
"Don't leave, I'm coming with you" Zoe agreed.
"And where are you going to during office hours?" A deep powerful voice questioned behind her.
Zoe stiffened, she dare not turn around because she already knew who it was. He had been speaking so close to her that she could now easily recognize it even to the point of identifying it in a crowd. Victor Baelish was standing right behind her breathing down her neck with a threatening glint in his eyes.
