"He's not who you think he is, Cassie." John tried to convince his daughter but she was having none of it.
"What is that supposed to mean, Dad?" Cassandra threw her hands up in exasperation. "Why should I even believe a word you say after you kicked us out of your life?!"
John hisses in annoyance at her defiant attitude. "I didn't kick you out, your mother took you but that's not the point right now. I need you to understand that this man is dangerous."
"Who is he then? A serial killer? A mob boss? Some Egyptian prince or something?" She taunted in anger but doesn't give him the chance to explain himself.
"Stop it! Just stop it! No excuse you give will justify kidnapping him and treating him this way." She glared at him with clenched fists.
Unknown to them all, her nails were starting to elongate in a partial shift and were starting to dig into her skin.
"Let him go," She said in an even tone.
"I'm sorry sweetheart but this is for your own good." John shook his head and turned toward one of his henchmen and gave him some kind of signal.
The henchman nodded and left. He returned a few seconds later with Maria following closely behind him.
"Mom?" Cassandra whispered in disbelief. "What are you doing here?"
Maria looked at her with sympathy and a silent apology in her eyes.
She then turned towards Matthew who had regained consciousness sometime during their argument.
"Shift." Maria commanded and the power in her voice could be felt by everyone in the room.
Cassandra stared at her mother in shock. She had never heard her talk like that.
The effect of Maria's voice on her daughter and ex husband was considerably less because of the blood in their veins.
A second later, Matthew came fully awake with a gasp with wide eyes. He released an agonizing scream that made Cassandra want to claw her ears off.
She ran to him, careful not to touch his chains since silver seemed to burn her skin when she touched it for reasons unknown to her.
"What do I do? How can I help you, Matt?!" She sobbed as a burning sensation spread through her, creeping under her skin, into her bones, through her bloodstream. It was so painful and she knew it was coming from the man in front of her.
"Mom, stop this please!" She cried, unable to do anything to help her mate.
His bones began to break, forcefully rearranging themselves into his second form. Matthew was fighting the change and that just made it unbearable, he almost passed out.
He kept releasing screams even when he tried to swallow them. He felt like taking a gun to his head and ending his misery.
As his bones started to twist, causing his skin to stretch, Cassandra screamed in horror. Two men grabbed her arms and pulled her away.
She thrashed about, wanting to get back to her mate who was in obvious agony.
"Mom, please stop it!"
She didn't know what was happening but she knew her parents had something and everything to do with it.
"Daddy, stop this!"
John looked on with a hateful glare directed at the beast that wanted to take his daughter away.
"Mom!..." Her plea is cut short as red hair starts to sprout from Matthew's body at a faster pace. His nails grew into claws and his body grew until he stood about two feet off the floor on four paws.
The transformation was complete.
The material used for the silver chains around Matthew's ankles and wrists seemed expandable as it accommodated his new size.
He slumped on his belly in exhaustion and laid his head on his paws.
His green eyes were trained on Cassandra in apprehension.
The room is as silent as a cemetery, only Matthew's tired pants were heard.
Everyone watches Cassandra with different expressions varying from wariness to anticipation.
The person of interest ignores everyone around her, her focus on her boyfriend who had just turned into a wolf in front of her very eyes.
