Prince Vincent (1)

*Murmur*

*Murmur*

Amid the murmurs in the lecture theatre, Calla could be seen arranging her books into her bag pack. She, along with the surrounding students, recently finished an English lecture. That leaves them to either go home or do something of their choice.

Calla had planned to go to the pet shop since she had free time.

''Isn't that Prince Vincent?'' The words from a random student seated at the front attracted everyone's gaze to the doorway. Truly to those words, the person they referred as Prince Vincent could be seen standing in the doorway.

''OMG, it's the prince!''

''What's he doing here?''

''Is he looking for someone?''

''Is he looking for lacy?''

''He is looking for her!''

As most of the students whispered in gushing tones about the fine man standing in the doorway, someone with courage stepped down from their seat and went to meet with the rumored university prince.

Calla, on the other hand, just finished putting her stationeries and books into her bag pack, clearly not paying attention to the murmurs about a prince around her. Someone that sat on her side, skipping the seat between them, called out to her.

''Hey freak, it seems the prince is looking for you.''

Her?

Confused and wondering if she had spoken to anyone, particularly the popular boy nicknamed Prince Vincent, Calla lifted her gaze, a bit startled, with the number of gazes falling on her figure. Their reactions were mostly shock, envy, disgust and all the likes that clearly say 'how can our prince be looking for someone like her?'

''....'' Not taking their reactions to heart, Calla shifted her eyes to the doorway where the rumored Prince Vincent stood. Once her eyes landed on his visage, surprise flickered in them, and then realization.

No wonder she felt one of her customers of the previous day was somewhat familiar. So he was a student in the same university as herself.

Even if the mystery behind the familiarity has been cleared, Calla still didn't want to meet the rumored Prince Vincent. She didn't know how to interact with others, and others did not want to interact with her.

Besides, what if the rumored university prince wanted to bully her? Calla felt he would have to wait on the waiting line because she had to be at work in the pet shop soon. Though it wasn't her working day, she didn't want to remain in the university at all.

''Hey, Prince Vincent is looking for you. Get up and go to him.'' Someone behind startled her with a light kick on the back of her chair.

''Yeah, Is she feeling arrogant?''

''Why would the prince even want to meet her?''

''Maybe a lecturer wanted to speak with her.''

''Yeah. That's right. There's no way Prince Vincent will want to relate with her.''

''He's already Lacy's boyfriend.''

''I thought that was a rumor?''

''Who knows…But I always see Lacy speaking to him.''

''....''

Pursing her lips as if to express her unspoken grievance, Calla knew she had no choice but to speak with this customer of hers that was unfortunately someone from her university.

Since she was done packing her stuff, Calla stood up and under everyone's eyes, she walked down the set of stairs that was just by her side. She then closed the distance between herself and the rumored Prince Vincent.

''…..''

So....why was he looking for her?

Perhaps seeing her questioning gaze from under the hoodie, he gave the answers to her thoughts.

''Please follow me. It's about the dog I spoke to you the other day.'' His voice, just like the previous day, was light and soft. She could tell he was someone with a gentle personality.

Hearing that it was about the dog, Calla threw the hesitation of following him out of her mind and instantly nodded in agreement. Since it was about an animal, especially a dog, she did not mind following him.

''Thank you.'' He gave her a relieved smile.

''Hmm....''

His sky-blue eyes twinkled, displaying how much he was pleased with her simple hum.

Upon seeing the way his handsome features lightened up with a small smile, Calla widened her eyes a little, a bit astonished that there was someone this handsome in a public university. It wasn't like she had that kind of fixed thoughts, but she was used to seeing people with outstanding looks in wealthy and influential families like hers.

Another example was her husband.

He was the most handsome man he had ever seen in her life.

This rumored university prince could be the second most handsome person that she had seen after her husband.

After Calla graded his looks in her thoughts, Vincent, the rumored university prince, turned his back on her and began to walk away from the lecture theatre.

Under the nosy eyes of her course mates, Calla followed him, knowing that it wouldn't take an hour before the entire university knew about the rumored university prince coming to see someone like herself.

''I'm from the commercial department by the way.'' He started the conversation as they passed through the hallway of lockers and walked out of her department.

''….'' Calla said nothing in return. Her head was lowered and her hands were tucked in the pockets of her hoodie as she followed after his steps.

''Not much of a talker, are you? But you were different in the pet shop,'' He pointed out. ''It's like you have a personality for school and a personality for your workplace.''

''…..'' Calla still remained quiet.

''Still no word? Maybe you'll talk when you see the puppies…''

At the mention of puppies, Calla's head went up and her honey brown eyes unexpectedly met his sky blue eyes that turned in crescent shapes at her quick action. Her steps came to a stop when she noticed that the distance between them was closer than before. She almost bumped into him.

''You must really love animals,'' He perceived with a grin, turning back and resuming his walk.

Was he making fun of her?

Staring at his back with side eyes, Calla pursed her lips once more. She then continued her steps, making sure that she was careful not to bump into him.

''Don't worry, there are about six puppies. I found the mother recently and her body seemed really weak. It would have been nice to take her to a proper vet, but I am not really familiar with this side of the state.'' Vincent said on their way to the commercial department.

Their departments weren't that far from each other. Her department was the last building in the faculty of science and next to that was the building of the commercial department.

A walk from one department to the other was probably ten to twenty minutes' walk.

''Her body must be pretty weak after giving birth and no immediate care was given. The first time I saw her, I had a feeling that her death was near. But....mothers are strong, right? Despite the lack of care, she managed to give to birth to that amount of puppies,'' He added. His voice seemed to break down at the ending of his words, but Calla did not notice as some of his words pulled her into the depth of her thoughts.

Towards his saying about mothers, Calla did not think she had the right to compliment mothers. After all, her own mother wasn't like what he said.

A mother that had blamed her for her twin sister's death without hearing her out.

She may have been a great and the best mother to her twin sister, but she wasn't the same to herself.
