Literal Downfall

His feet started to move on their own as his eyes followed the trajectory of the blazing ball of fire. He might have let it be, and just continued to watch from the sidelines if it wasn't for the couple of silhouettes which were rushing out of the elevator.

Before he knew it, he was racing the alienated weapon which could bring doom for anyone on the other hand, and may be for him too if he was to be blamed for being a bad catcher in the end.

Slowly, yet firmly, he continued following it, racing it to its destination. His hands were reaching up in the air while his orbs glued to it. He was ready to grab it, and be the hero, but things didn't proceed as he had planned them.

The moment the blazing red sandal started to descend down, his fingers reached up to curl around it, stopping it from landing on the other person's head. He had only started to cheer for himself internally on being successful when he bumped into her.

"Oww!"

A painful cry filled his ears which was followed by a thud. Before his mind could register what was going on, he found himself on the floor of the lobby, joining the lady. He had managed to save her from getting hit in the head by an unidentified flying sandal, but at the same time he was the reason behind her literal downfall.

"I am so sorry." An apology left his lip before his eyes could even locate her face. "Are you alright? Are you hurt somewhere? Should I call the in-house doctor?" He trailed his eyes to her petite figure, and muttered out a long series of questions as he ended up sitting on his legs next to her.

He would have felt much better if he was able to gauge her reaction from her face. But all he saw was a head filled with dark brown hair since she had her face looking down.

"Are you okay?" He asked her again when his earlier questions didn't get any response.

"I am fine. Thank you for asking." Finally, a soft and mellow voice was heard, easing his worrying mind. "Are you okay though?" The same voice asked him without the owner even looking up at him.

The concern with which the words were laced, left him a little speechless. He didn't know how to answer it.

"Are you okay, Mister?" She asked him again as she dusted her sides off, making sure that not even a single speck of dust was clinging to her simple dress.

"I-I am." He answered as he observed her small actions with his curiosity filled eyes. He could only compare her to the two nasty little creatures from earlier. Their personalities were poles apart.

'If only the world had more people like her.' He thought to himself before offering her his help. "Let me help you, Miss." He hurriedly got off the floor and extended his hand forward, not giving her much time to think over it.

"You are so kind, thank you." The lady mumbled as she looked up at him. A small smile was clinging to the curve of her rosy pink, thin lips. Her chocolate brown orbs twinkled with kindness as rays of light danced across them along the melody of happiness.

The smile on her face only widened as she accepted his hand, not forgetting to thank him once again as he pulled her up. "Thank you."

"Y-you're welcome, Miss." He gave her a slight nod after pulling himself out of her stupor. Her orbs alone had left him stunned.

"I am sorry for not being careful enough with my steps." He apologized to her once again for his carelessness, only to earn a frown from her.

"You don't have to apologize for anything. In fact, I should be thanking you for helping me." Her almond shaped eyes squinted together as she gave him a full blown smile.

At first, she was more than confused about what was happening with her. She had only taken a step or two out of the elevator before she found herself on the ground. She was about to argue with the man who had pushed her down, but stopped herself when she saw him joining her on the floor.

It had taken her a while to process things through when she saw him holding on to a red sandal, but she was able to put two and two together after she realized that he was wearing the staff's uniform.

"I get it that you were in a rush to get to your destination, but next time be a little more careful." She added politely when she didn't hear him say anything in response.

"I-I…" Corey trailed off as he tore his eyes away from her face. He didn't know what to say. He was more than feeling guilty for his actions. It was okay to him if the other person was rude to him like the two sisters, but he had no idea how to respond to the lady before him.

"I am sorry. I was just trying to catch the sandal, trying to make sure that it didn't land on someone's head, but...." He explained as best as he could, but he failed once again in choosing the right words.

"But it made me land on the ground, and now you are feeling bad about it." She completed his words for him and got a couple of nods in return. "It's really fine. Look on the brighter side. No one actually got hurt in this all, either by the sandal or the floor." She added with a light giggle.

"Yes, nobody got hurt by the sand-" Before he could finish his sentence, he took an abrupt halt as the realization suddenly hit him. The said sandal, which was the root cause of all of his problems, was no longer in his hands.

"The sandal! Where did it go?" He mumbled, more to himself, as he stared at his empty hands. He knew that he would be doomed if he couldn't find it.

"I am sure it must be somewhere here." The lady spoke up in her crisp voice, which was more melodious to his ears than any song which he had ever heard.

'Focus on the sandal!' He scolded himself internally as he gave her an awkward smile.

"I am sure we will find it. Let me help you." She turned her attention back to the polished floor where she had seen it before.

"It's not here now" She mumbled with a frown as she let her gleaming eyes roam around, with the man following her lead.

But before either of them could find the broken sandal, they were interrupted by two not so pleasant voices, one after the other.

"Noelle?"

"Is that you?"

Uh-oh... It's Noelle, but that didn't go so smoothly. Do we sense some trouble in the air for our FL already?
