Ralph's Point Of View
I slept in the next room close to where Jackia and I were to spend the night to avoid any complications, which wasn't supposed to be the order of the day. I am the alpha and could have my way with any lady I chose to.
But Jackia had proven to be so challenging that by the time I got back, she was still in the same spot she was in. I was certainly sure that she hadn't left that spot since I left the room for her, but I didn't have enough time to probe her.
When I heard a loud noise coming from the far end of the hall, someone calling my name like she was in danger, I rushed out and headed to the source, only to realise that it was Layla who was having a bad dream.
Well, after we resuscitated her and everything was fine, I went back to my room, and as expected, Jackia wasn't there. I sat down to get off yesterday's clothes and go wash off, when Liam came right in.
"Aren't you dressed up?" We both stared right at each other for a while as I raised a questioning eyebrow and asked him.
"Do we have a special occasion, or is it today?" I asked, not knowing what today was for after all.
"I know you don't know what today is for, so I would save both of us the stress. We headed to the council meeting to talk about the ongoing war, and you know how tense it would be. I would advise you to feed yourself and your wolf enough to condone their excesses.".
My beta said, making my wolf laugh. "Yeah, he is right, and I can't agree more", Dam said, as I stared angrily at my Beta and rolled my eyes inwardly at Dam. They knew fully well that it wasn't fun.
"Well, at least I am going with both of you.".
They both laughed at my words as I went into the bathroom to wash up. My Beta followed but stood outside while continuing to converse, "So tell me how last night went". He asked me, and I looked confused as I stopped midway.
"What are you talking about?" I asked him as I continued with my business, "Well, you know you spent the night with a maiden and not just any maiden, the most conversant one at that, so tell me, do you think she is the one?".
He asked me, making me realise what he actually meant by that:
"I didn't spend the night with her as you all expected, so I do not know if she is the one or if any of the maidens are the one. To be frank with you, I don't even care to know." Dam growled within me, "we know she is the one, you are just denying it.
This earned me a frown from Liam, as I was happy to get them angry at such a silly thing. "Come on, Ralph, you are no longer young," he said to me as I laughed out loud.
"It's not like I will be dying in a hundred years to come either."
I said, as I could find more peace than I am feeling right now, so pathetic of them
"Well, I know you do want to, but for the sake of the tradition that has been there before you were born, at least respect and abide by it".
I washed off and came out all naked. I was comfortable with him, as we played a lot when we were kids, so he wasn't a stranger in any way.
"Really at the expense of my peace of mind and happiness, no way," I said as I dressed up, only to notice he had gone silent with me. It must be tiring to have to deal with someone like me.
As soon as I was all set, I went to the kitchen to grab some food from my old maid, who had been taking care of me since my childhood. She always kept a large quantity for me:
"Hello dear it's so good to see you today, and you are looking so beautiful as ever".
I said, pecking her cheeks as I headed to a vacant chair along with Liam. She always fed the both of us through the night, as Father wouldn't allow us to eat much.
"I know you only ate here because of the quantity of the food.". She said
We both laughed as she served us, and we dived in without hesitation. As soon as we were done, I headed right out towards the pack house. The pack house is where all the councils that hold part of the kingdom gather to discuss issues, plan ahead for different seasons, make laws, and prepare for war. My years of attending meetings have always been more like selfish agendas that would not benefit me.
Making rules and traditions that do not even speak so well of this kingdom, knowing fully well we were close to the pack house, sent a bolt of anger across me and my Liam's mind. We both felt the same feeling in the air, today wasn't going to be a good day.
Dam did not feel any different as we headed right in, the whole room was filled up. I do not know why I feel this way right now. "
The alpha finally decided to show up to an important meeting."
One of the counsellors said, I didn't bother to respond as I went to the front of the room and took my seat with Liam sitting beside me.
"I greet you all, and I apologise if I have kept you waiting for too long; it was never my intention, as you all know that I have guests in my home.".
I said, referring to the maidens in my home and knowing fully that it was more like sarcasm than I meant it.
"Let's go ahead with today's agenda; the day the moon goddess is to open the border is fast approaching, and we have just a few soldiers trained every three months."
I was interrupted before I could buttress my point.
"That isn't a problem as we just have to strategize," one of my members of council said.
"Strategize, you say? Do you know what enemy is on the other side? They are half wolves and half demons."
The other member of council said, and I couldn't agree more,
"So what do you suggest we do then?" The first member of council who spoke earlier said, but we all kept silent.
"Can't we all fight the blood mages or sign a treaty with them?".
I asked, looking at the members of council, as I didn't want anything to destroy this kingdom that has been for years.
"Alpha Ralph, I count that an insult to us. We will never have any relationship with the blood mages. We had better think of something else". The oldest council member said:
