Chapter 2: Good News

Ace's POV:

"Ace?" Someone called. I kept completely still and my eyes shut. "Ace?" They called again. I furrowed my brows. Then I felt someone rip the covers off of me. I smacked my teeth. "Oh my God get out and leave me alone!!" I yelled. "Boy I don't know who you hollerin at like that but do it again and yo ass will be black and blue next time you wake up." Douglas said. I turned over on my side and looked at him. "Sorry." I said. "Ace get up." He said.

^Douglas

"Why?" I asked. "Because I have good news." He said. There was a long silence. "Well don't keep me in suspense." I said, sarcastically. He stared at me. "What?" I asked. "Boy you starting to talk different." He said. "Yeah because I'm around you a lot. I'm staring to sound like you." I said. He rolled his eyes and opened the curtains. "Douglas!!" I whined, as I covered my face. "Get up Ace. We're moving today." He said.

I looked at him. "What you talking bout?" I asked. He laughed. "Now you're starting to sound like me. The facility has built a brand new house for us so we're all moving there." He said. "Where is it?" I asked. He smiled. "You'll see. Now hurry up and get dressed and ready to leave. Start packing. I'll be back up here in ten minutes and if you not dressed, I'm beating yo ass." He said, then he walked out the room.

I got up and walked over to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror. "Ugh." I said. I honestly felt like shit. Me and my friends were out late last night partying. I had a bad hangover. I shook my head and walked over to the shower. I took a shower. I let the water wash over me. Ah fuck I feel sick. I got out the shower and then walked to my room. I got dressed and looked over at my nightstand.

There was a pill and some water. I picked up the note and looked at it. Dear Ace, when you wake up, I know you're going to feel like shit. So here's a pill my little sister always gave me to help with my hangovers. Water will help make it better. I know it will taste nasty but it will help. From, Christina. I stared at the note then crumpled it up and threw it away. I grabbed the pill and downed it. Then I drunk the water. It really was nasty.

I walked out into the hall and saw Christina. "Hey Christina." I said. She glared at me. "Don't call me that. And finally, you're awake now. Good. Did you take the pill?" She asked. I nodded. "Thanks." I said. She glared at me. "You're lucky I didn't tell Douglas." She said. "How did you know we were drunk?" I asked. "Well the fact that you guys were stumbling around, trying to eat everything in the fridge told me that you were drunk." She said. I smiled sheepishly.

^Christina

"I'm won't gonna tell Douglas as long as you don't drink ever again." She said. I nodded. "I wanna hear you say it." She said. I put my hands behind my back and crossed my fingers. "I promise I won't drink again." I said. She smiled and walked away. Fingers were crossed so I can drink again. I walked down the hall and bumped into someone. I looked up and rolled my eyes. "You can't say excuse me?" Chris asked. "Not to dudes I can't stand." I said. He pushed me. I punched him.

^Chris

He was about to retaliate when a security guard came over. "Hey hey hey!!! Not today you two. I'm so sick of you two fighting every damn day." A guard said. I glared at Chris before walking away. I hated him so much. Ever since I came here, I hated him. Chris and I have been enemies since we first met. "Hey man. Chris still being an asshole?" Someone asked. I looked over and seen my best friend, Kyle. I walked over to him.

^Kyle

"Yeah. He won't shut the fuck up. Next time he runs his mouth, I'm breaking his jaw." I said. "Next time who runs whose mouth?" Someone asked. I looked over to see my other best friend, Mike. "Chris. He still talking shit." I said. He scoffed. "When is he not on everybody's dick? He always got something negative to say." He said. "I swear man, next time he say something to me, he gon get popped." I said. "So pop me now nigga." Chris said, coming up to me.

^Mike

Chris then took off his shirt. I did the same. "Nah uh uh. Chris you already fought Ace so many times man. He's dropped you so many times, it's no point in y'all fighting when we know Ace gon win." Kyle said. "Man shut yo bitch ass up. You always on Ace's dick." Chris said. Kyle then stole off on him. He punched him in his jaw then picked him up and slammed him. Chris did throw some good punches.

I ain't gon front. Chris did have hands, just not with us. He knows he can't beat us. "Aye aye aye!! Enough!!" A guard yelled. Security guards rushed over and pulled them apart. "You two with me!!" Rachel yelled, angrily. She walked over and grabbed them and pulled them off. "Oh boy." Douglas said. "Yep. Rachel's gonna get em." Christina said. I looked over at them. "Come on Ace. Let's pack up." Douglas said. I followed them back to my room.

^Rachel

As they helped me pack, I glanced up at them and saw them kissing. "Ewww!" I said. "Boy shut up." Douglas said. Christina giggled. "Alright Ace. Let's go to the car." Christina said. I followed her out the door and downstairs. We walked outside to the car. She put my suitcases in the trunk and hugged me. "Christina, you're coming with me." I said. She hit me. "I said don't call me that. I'm your Mom now." She said.

I smiled. "Sorry. It's gonna be hard to switch from Christina to Mom." I said. I'm so grateful that Douglas and Christina adopted new. Unfortunately, they had to wait years to do so. When I was younger, I got into a pretty bad fight that resulted in the boy going to the hospital. He was put on life support but they ended up pulling the plug. I got expelled from school and had to go to court.

Since I was young, I had to go to a correctional facility. I also had to go to anger management. I hated it and it obviously did nothing because I still have anger issues. Douglas and Christina really wanted to adopt me but because I'm such a hot head, they had to wait. I thought they were gonna change their minds and find someone else but they didn't want anyone but me.

I was so happy that I was finally getting adopted after so many years of being abandoned. I hated the fact that I was the oldest child at the adoption agency. I had to watch everyone else get adopted while I was still sleeping on a mattress that was also on the floor. It was depressing. But then Douglas came along. I still remember the day I met him. I was with the executive of the adoption agency.

We were at a McDonald's. We were also with her son. We were at the counter ordering food. When it was my turn to order, she said I couldn't get anything because she heard I was mean to other kids. So I was starving while she and her son ate. Douglas walked by when I started sobbing. The executive yelled at me and told me to stop crying. I told her I was starving but she ignored me.

Then Douglas bought me food and gave it to me. He felt and for me and sat down in front of me. Me and him talked til it was time to go. A tear escaped my eye because I didn't want to leave Douglas. Douglas wanted to know where we were headed because his niece didn't have many friends. The executive told him that I was an orphan. Then Douglas offered to adopt me.

The executive laughed it off and made us leave. Douglas followed us all the way back to the adoption agency. He was serious about adopting me. Then Christina showed up. She and Douglas sat down and talked with me about who I was and what kind of things I liked. Everyone there warned them that I had anger issues and I get into fights but they were determined to take me as I am.

The adoption agency really didn't want them to adopt me. They did everything they could to make sure I would never get adopted. They were so against me that Douglas and Christina threaten to call the police. Then the adoption agency gave in and let me go but when the boy I fought was taken off life support, I had to go to the correctional facility. Douglas and Christina still waited for me when I got out.

But then I was taken away from them and ended up here. Douglas and Christina still came with me. They weren't allowed to visit me for some reason but Christina is a lawyer so she knew she could easily sue if they didn't give them answers as to why they couldn't visit me. But now parents can visit anytime. Douglas however worked here so he and Christina lived here with me.

I never had to worry about me going somewhere without them by my side. "Ace?" Christina called, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Hmm?" I answered. "Do you want to get coffee or hot chocolate?" She asked. "You know I don't like coffee." I said, getting in the car. She laughed. "I told you." She said, talking to Douglas. I looked around and saw everyone getting into the cars and packing up their suitcases.

I pulled out my phone and earbuds. "Okay Ace. You ready?" Douglas asked. "Yeah I guess Douglas." I said. There was a pause. "Ace why can't you just call us Mom and Dad?" He asked. "It's hard. I've been locked up, away from you guys for so long that I don't know how to call people my family." I said. "Well you have us, so start calling us your parents." He said. "Yes sir." I said, then I put my earbuds in.

I didn't mind calling Douglas my Dad. I was worried people might judge us because he's black and I'm white. Plus, while I was here, knowing that Douglas worked here, it was hard to call him Dad when everyone is always around us. I felt uncomfortable so I called him by his name. Even if I didn't know Douglas, I would call him Dad. Out of all the guards here, I actually prefer Douglas handle me.

Even though he wasn't a guard but the executive of the building, I liked when Douglas handled me. He was nicer and more gentler than everyone else. Though he did give me tough love by whooping me, I still would prefer Douglas over everyone else. "Okay we're here!!" Christina sang. I looked up. "It's annoying when she sings, right?" Douglas asked. Christina punched his arm playfully. "There's the house." She said. I looked out the window.

"Wow. It's so...big. It's enormous." I said. "It's a mansion Ace." Douglas said. "Okay I know what mansions are but this is ridiculous. Are they all enormous?" I asked. "Most of them. Well it really depends on how rich you are." Christina said. I looked over and saw a woman standing by a red car. "Whose that?" I asked. "That's probably the realtor. She wants me and Rachel to sign the rights to the house." Douglas said.

We pulled up and got out. I looked over and saw Kyle and Mike. They walked over to me. We all approached the realtor. "Hi. Oh there's a lot of you." She said. Rachel walked up to her. "Hi. I'm Rachel and this is Douglas. Now I know we're supposed to seal the deal, but I haven't seen the whole house yet and neither have these kids. Plus, I just came back from vacation." She said. "Oh yes of course. Please follow me." The realtor said.

We all walked into the house. I looked around. "Whoa. Look at the front door." Someone said. "Check out those stairs. Their near the door." Another said. I looked at the stairs and doors. I saw there was a room in between them. I walked over to it and looked inside. It is nice. I put my hands in my pockets and walked around. "Yes everything is quite lovely. Come this way." The realtor said. I looked at Kyle and Mike.

"What do you guys think?" I asked. They both shrugged. "Why do I get Norway vibes from this house?" Rachel asked. "Well you see, Douglas told me you were housing....troubled teens." The realtor said. "And?" Rachel said. "In Norway, they have beautiful, luxurious prisons and the former inmates are less dangerous. Instead of treating them like animals the way the US does, they treat the inmates like human beings." The realtor explained.

That makes sense. "Follow me. In this room, we have a pool table. It's for those kind of nights where everyone gets together to chill and relax." The realtor said, trying to sound young. We all cringed and snickered. "Anyways, this is near the living room. Follow me. As you can see, the chandelier really ties the room together." The realtor continued. She was really embarrassed about what she just said.

"Now let's go outside. The porch curbs are amazing. They look amazing, especially at night. Late night grilling, Fourth of July, or an event, that kind of thing." The realtor continued. Suddenly, a girl walked over to her. "Mom I'm ready to go." She said, angrily. "I'm working right now." The realtor said. "So it's bring your kids to work day?" Rachel asked. "Sorry. Her father is late coming to get here." She said.

She glared at her daughter. "Plus the schools have pushed back their break so my daughter has been super helpful." She said, sarcastically. The girl rolled her eyes. "Anyways, on with the tour. Now back here, is the crown jewel. As you can see, there's a beautiful lake back here. The porch almost goes out to it. I have heard so many great things about this lake. Apparently, there's a secret beneath this lake but I think it's just a rumor." The realtor said.

I looked over and noticed the real estate's daughter was staring at me. "Yo you got a staring problem?" I asked, irritably. She scoffed. "Ace." Douglas said. "I'm sorry. My daughter is just upset at me. But I'm not gonna let her disrespectfulness interfere with my work. On with the tour." The realtor said. We walked down back into the house when I was suddenly grabbed by my shirt. I looked over and saw the realtor's daughter.

"I like that." She said. I was confused. "Like what?" I asked. "Your rudeness. I fuck with that." She said, as she pulled me into a bathroom. She got down on her knees and pulled out my dick. "Oooh. Big boy." She said, smirking. She began to give me head. "Oh. Nnnnnnggghhhh fuck." I groaned. She moaned softly, causing a little bit of a vibration. I grabbed her hair and bit my lip. "Oh fuck fuck." I groaned.

After she was done, she winked at me and left. Oh my God. I managed to find everyone else upstairs. I looked around and slid my way through the crowed of teens. I went to the front and walked beside Kyle and Mike. They both looked at me. "You ain't slick nigga. We seen you and that girl." Kyle said. I smirked. "If you want some head, go get some. I said. "Me first." Mike said. "One at a time. Don't draw suspicion." I said.

They both managed to go get head one by one. They slipped back into the group undetected. "And that's the end of the tour. Now what's your decision?" The realtor asked. Rachel and Douglas looked at each other. "We'll take it." They both said. Rachel smiled at him but he didn't look at her. He stared at the realtor. "Now let's get down to business. Sigh here, and here, then initial here. Then the date. Okay that's it. Enjoy your new home." She said. Then she left.

"Alright everyone!! Go get your bags and fish your rooms!!" Rachel yelled. We all ran downstairs and out the door to the cars. I quickly grabbed my suitcases and headed inside. I looked up and down the house for my room. "Damn. All these rooms are terrible." I muttered. "Having trouble?" Rachel asked, as she came up to me. "No no. I got it." I said. "I'll help." Douglas said, taking a suitcase. He followed me down the halls. I looked at Douglas. "Thanks." I said.

He nodded at me. We passed by numerous rooms and none of them fitted my liking. Right when I was about to give up, we came to a room. It was all black. Black. My favorite color. I entered the room and sighed in content. I looked at Douglas. "My goth side is finally satisfied." I said, as I jumped on the bed. Douglas chuckled. "Goth side. Boy you are crazy." He said, as he leaned against a dresser. We began to unpack. I looked around at my room. "It's nice." I said.

"It definitely fits you." He said. He looked at me. "Ace, can I ask you something?" He asked. I nodded. "Why can't you call me Dad?" He asked. I sat down on my bed. "I'm uncomfortable." I said. He nodded and quickly walked out the door. I blew a breath and followed him. "Douglas!" I called. I ran after him. "Look let's talk privately." I said. We walked outside to the backyard. We walked over towards the lake and sat down. I looked up at the moon through the low hanging trees.

"It's not that I don't want to call you and Christina Mom and Dad but...to say it publicly? Think about it. You are a black man having a white son. People will talk." I said. "Who gives a fuck? Look Ace, when I first met you, I didn't see the color of your skin and you didn't see mine. There's lot of people who have multiracial families. Why is ours any different?" He asked. "Chris makes fun of me." I said. He looked at me.

"Well that's Chris. You should be used to this." He said. "No I mean he makes fun of me for wanting to have a black Dad. His parents are also making fun of me because I wanna be with a black family. They say that I'm backwards. I try not to let people's words get to me but when it's on a regular basis, then I snap." I said. He put his arm around me. "Ace, listen for me. There will be people who will judge, talk, do anything or say anything to make you feel bad for being in a multiracial family." He said.

I nodded. "And that's fine. Let them do that. But the moment you feel embarrassed to be around me, that's when I cut it." He said. My heart broke when he said that. "It's not like that. I'm not embarrassed to be around you. But when people ask why I'm calling you Dad, I don't want to explain to them why. I get embarrassed because I know I'm adopted. I know no one loves me. I really should just kill myself." I said.

He then punched my arm. "Boy don't you ever let me hear you say that shit!" He yelled. I stared at him. "I love you Ace. I love you like you're my one son. You are loved. You've just been held down for so long, you don't ever wanna get back up. I love you. Christina loves you. Kyle loves you. Mike loves you. We all love you Ace. I don't know where this self loathe is coming from but it has to go." He said.

"My own parents didn't love me!!" I cried. "That's their loss!! You are amazing Ace. Just because you're adopted don't mean shit. You are still awesome. So your biological parents gave you up. So what?! That's their loss that they missed out on raising such a a fantastic young man. If only they knew how you were gonna turn out, they wouldn't have gave you up. Don't you ever let me hear you say that again. Killing yourself or you aren't loved." He said.

He shook his head. "I lost my sister that way. She thought she wasn't loved so she killed herself. Everyone is brought in this world for a reason. Don't take yo ass out just because you in yo feelings. It's okay to feel down and be depressed for a bit but when you start to think shit like that, that's when you get out of the rut. Don't do that shit Ace. Don't say how you want to kill yourself or think you're unloved." He said.

WARNING ⚠️:

I didn't say anything. I know I'm unloved. "Now. When you get finished unpacking, come eat." He said, as he stood up and left. "I'll be out here for a few." I said, staring out at the water. I looked back to make sure he was gone. I reached in my pocket and pulled out a blade. I rolled up my jacket sleeves and began to cut myself. I closed and smiled at the pain. I know I'm unloved. I stood up and walked back into the house.

I took a shower and went back down to eat. Afterwards, I went upstairs to my room and climbed in bed. I watched TV til I went to sleep.
