ELIJAH'S POV
I rolled my wheelchair towards Valentine Sutton as the music started up again. Keeping a smile plastered on my face, I asked him point-blank, "What the fuck are you doing here?"
Valentine leaned down, his breath hot on my ear. "The invite had a plus one. Figured I should show my face, considering we'll be in-laws soon enough."
My grip tightened on the armrests of my chair. "I only gave an invite to your daughter and her cousin. Not you." The words came out through gritted teeth.
"My father is here," I added, hoping it would be enough to make him leave.
Valentine's lips curled into a smirk. "You're a man now, Elijah. Time you grow a fucking spine."
He tapped my shoulder and walked off, leaving me seething. I wanted to wheel after him, to tell him exactly where he could shove his opinions, but I knew better. This wasn't the time or place for a scene.
