After an hour of laborious work, the woman finally managed to pushed the baby out and fell back on the bed in exhaustion. Nalani eyes widen as she held the newborn baby I'm her arms.
Her heart filled with variety of emotions. Davian handed her the scissors to cut the amblical cord and with trembling hands, she managed to sever the cord. Nalani quickly wrapped the baby with a cloth and held him in her arms but the baby was quiet without a sound.
Aren't newborn babies supposed to cry out loud. Noticing this anomaly, Nalani turned to look at Davian in a panic"Why isn't he crying?"Nalani asked. Davian frowned, looked at his woman who was a nervous wreck and on the verge of tearing up, her eyes filled with fear and anxiety. He turned his gaze to the unconscious woman on the bed as if wanting to ask her for further instructions but she has already fainted from exhaustion.
"Give him to me" he said, stretching out his hands. Nalani quickly gave the baby to him. He removed the cloth covering him and started trying to resuscitate the child. His movement concentrated and precise.
Nalani stood close, watching with bated breath and just when she started to feel dreadful in her heart, the child started crying, his loud wail echoing in the utterly quiet room. Nalani stumbled, nearly crumbling onto the floor from relief, having held her breath in nervousness.
She hugged Davian happily, showering him with kisses for saving the child. The cries of the baby woke the woman up.
"My baby. I want to see my baby" she asked for her child as soon as she opened her eyes. Nalani was quick to put the baby in her arms. Holding the child and feeling her baby in her arms made the woman's shed tears of joy.
"He's so cute. My son" her eyes stared affectionately at the baby. She raised her eyes to look gratefully at Nalani and Davian.
"Thank you so much for saving me and my children. You people are God sent angels. For everything you've done for me, l don't know how to repay you". She sincerely thanked them.
"It's nothing. I'm glad we were able to help you. I think you and the baby should visit the hospital for further check up just to be sure that he's safe. He's a brave little champion" Nalani spoke, her eyes drifting off to look at the baby with fondness. Davian saw this and his grip on her hand tightened, a glint flash in his eyes as he also stared at the baby.
Nalani felt his tight hold but didn't think anything of it, she just turned to look at him, smiled brightly at him and held his hand tightly too.
"May l know the names of my saviors. My name is Janice Griffith" Janice asked, her voice soft and kind. Nalani nodded and replied with a smile,"My name is Nalani Soren and this is my fiance Davian." She pointed at Davian.
It was nearing evening when they finally left the Griffith home and it was after Janice's mother, Mrs Griffith had returned back home from town before Nalani felt assured of Janice and the baby's safety. When Mrs Griffith returned and found out everything that has transpired behind her back and how her in-laws had such viciously planned to harm her daughters and grandson, she was so furious that the old woman took a machete and wanted to go and settle the score with them.
Fortunately, Nalani and Janice pleas convinced her to act otherwise but she won't let go of the matter easily. All these years, she has kept silent over their mistreatment of her child because her daughter wanted to stay with their son but now things will change. She won't sit back and watch anymore.
It was eight in the night when Nalani and Davian arrived at the town's hotel and were led to their reserved room. It was a spacious and luxury suite. Exhausted, Nalani felt too tired by the day's event to appreciate the room's aesthetic decor. She dropped dead face down onto the bed while Davian walked to the balcony to make a call on the phone with someone.
His expression cold and stern as he spoke to the other person on the line. Yet in the next moment, he turned back to look at Nalani rolling and playing on the bed. His eyes full of adoration and smiles.
"Love, get up and go shower. I prepared something nice for you. You'll love it", Davian said to Nalani, his gentle and hoarse making her blush.
Nalani nodded, got up and runned to the bathroom.
A jacuzzi bath filled with roses and candle lit was waiting for her. A bottle of champagne and a basket of exotic fruits and berries was placed on the side for her convenience Nalani smiled happily seeing all of this, got undressed and entered the bathtub. She poured herself a glass of champagne and enjoyed her pampering.
After all, which woman didn't love being pampered and treated like a queen by their beloved.
After a while, Nalani came out of the bathroom clad in a bathrobe and still eating from a plate of berries that she loved so much. She saw Davian's was still standing at the balcony, still on his phone. She smiled and made her way towards him.
"Make sure he's not dead. I still haven't played enough. If anything happens to him then you can just leave behind your head for me. Don't..."
Clang!!!
The sound of a glass falling and shattering on the floor behind him interrupted Davian's words. Feeling a presence behind him, Davian's body stiffened, his his eyes narrowed dangerously as he gritted his teeth and his grip on the phone tightened. He was tensed. However, he still turned around with his charming and gentle smile and found Nalani standing there, rooted to the spot, the plate of berries having fallen and broken into many pieces and the berries scattered on the floor.
Her eyes held fear and an unknown emotion. Once Davian's dark and deep eyes captured her own, she quickly hide her gaze as if a mischievous child was caught doing something wrong.
"Love, are you done with your shower?" He asked, extending his hand to her but Nalani instinctively took a step back, seemingly afraid to get close to him. Davian saw her avoiding him and instead of calling her out on what she just did, he retracted his hand, put it in his pocket and smiled more gently at her.
He walked over the broken shards and close to her, grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him. Holding her close, he hugged her, "Why are you acting this way. Did you get startled because of the broken shards. Don't worry I'll get a maid to clean it up" he spoke, his voice filled with concern and love.
In the arms of her beloved man, Nalani said softly, "You scare me. You wanted someone's head".
Davian smiled and assured her,"It's nothing serious like that. That's just business. I was talking about some important business matter and l have to act tough. Do you want your poor sweetheart to be bullied by his workers?"
Nalani bite her lips, feeling guilty for some reason and shook her head. Davian smiled and hugged her, petting her head as if coaxing a child. He said,"Don't doubt me ever. You know l can never harm anyone "
Staring into his eyes, Nalani nodded and said with conviction,"Yes. My Davian is the most amazing and greatest man with a good heart in the whole world. You can't do anything evil and that's why I love you so much "
