Chapter 58: I missed you

Soobin's father was looking at him as if he was in huge pain. Did he just call him dad? Or he was hearing things? He couldn't understand what he should be if not happy. But at the same time it was a burden when he heard "it was too late".

"It is too late" is a sentence which he could never forget in his whole life. He listened to this several times in such different ways. The day his father left his mother and him, he tried his best to keep his father. His mom also begged that man saying she'll change for him. But that man answered, "It is too late and he was in love with another woman."

When his mother died, and he just reached the hospital because he was too busy to manage the money for his mother's treatment, the doctor said, "Sorry, it is too late." When he shot his wife without realizing, he begged her to hang on there and he'll save her no matter what. He also said he'll change for her. And in reply, she said, "It is too late"

Why? Why does it have to be like this every time?

Whenever someone said this sentence, they left him alone. All alone. Yes, he wanted to make money because he saw how the world turned into a beautiful place once someone gained power and money. But was everything worth it? People earn money so they can keep their loved ones by their side. But why is it the opposite for him? When he didn't have money, he lost his family. Once again, he lost his loved ones but this time he couldn't bind them with money. He earned so much money but they just left. Why was the earth so unfair to him? What did he do to deserve it? He didn't know. He asked this question to himself several times in these years but still couldn't figure out the answer.

"Tell me, what should I do so that it won't be late anymore?" he asked with a hoarse voice as if he just stopped crying. Soobin was so stunned that he kept looking at his father silently. He never saw this side of him since he was born. So, he didn't think his father also had a soft side. But was it real? He wasn't playing some tricks to keep him by his side, right? Soobin wondered.

Though his guts were telling him to trust the man, he just couldn't because he always saw how this guy used to be so cruel. Soobin was really confused. Because if his father wants, he can keep him by locking him up just like he did before. Then, why was he showing the pitiful face this time? Or was it just crocodile tears? Maybe he got some tricks under his sleeves. Soobin couldn't understand anymore.

"Um...Dad! Get up! You'll hurt your back." Soobin finally gave a hug without giving another thought. His behaviors made his dad surprised once again as he found his son too soft hearted.

How could he be so lucky to have a son like him? Maybe he was very lucky. The guy's eyes got full of tears but he couldn't shed it as he needed to protect his strong image in front of his son and his underlings. He stood up and finally realized his back was hurting by bending for too long. He sat beside Soobin and held his hand.

"Soobin-ah! I know dad was wrong. But dad had no other choices. You know, dad suffered a lot when he was weak. So, I decided to be strong. But that doesn't mean, I wanted to be a bad guy. But you know, there's no place in the world for decent guys. And situations made me who I am today. Maybe I could never give you the family you wanted even if I wouldn't walk in this line. Because, I'm too useless. I could never protect the people around me. I'm sorry. I'm a very bad father. I failed to be a husband too. I'm such a failure even though I have powers and money now. But you know, I'm willing to let go of everything because I'm aware that you are too precious to me that I can't bear if I lose you. So, please, please tell me that it's not too late. Please! I can't hear these words anymore. I'm sick of it." Soobin's father was still holding his hand tightly and he pressed it on his own forehead as if he wouldn't let go of him until he said forgive him.

"I don't know about you so I don't know if you're a good person or bad. The world might turn you into a villain and I might forgive you. But can you undo what you have done? Can you bring those lives back that you've killed? Can you give the girls reputation back which you've ruined? Can you...can you give me my mom and Jin hyung back?" Soobin was speaking in a soft tone but his words pierced through his father's heart as he knew he wasn't a computer that can undo things.

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I didn't know I became such a monster!" he let go of Soobin's hand and held his head with his palms as if he was hearing the crying sounds of those persons whom he had destroyed willingly or unwillingly.

Soobin was quiet for a while as he couldn't control his tears by remembering his mother and his beloved hyung. But suddenly he noticed that his father wasn't sitting normally beside him. It looked like he was gonna fall on the floor while bending down. Soobin thought it was repentance. But when he was going to console his dad and put his hand on his back, his father fell on the ground for real. That was when Soobin realized his father wasn't conscious anymore.

"Dad! DAD! HEY! IT'S NOT TIME FOR JOKE! YOU HEAR ME? DAD!" Soobin shouted while trying to pull his father back.

"Here's your phone young master." A guy who works for Soobin's father came to hand over his phone which he dropped in the house.

"Thank you!" Soobin, who was strolling around here and there in the hospital's hall room, took his phone back and smiled gently. He didn't get a chance to look at his phone so now when he turned it on he was astonished by seeing lots of texts and calls. But he noticed, most of the texts and missed calls were from Beomgyu. The hall was empty as it was night and that was a VIP ward. So, no other relatives of patients were waiting. Soobin took a seat and started looking at the texts. The first text he got was three days ago. He wondered how it had been three days? He just woke up this morning and was taken away by his dad. When he was going to read the messages, his phone started ringing. It was nobody other than Beomgyu. He tried to reach Soobin for so many times but it was saying, "The number you're calling is not reachable. please call later" every time. So, when Soobin's phone started ringing, Beomgyu felt happy.

"Hello!" Soobin answered. Hello! Soobin! Where are you? Are you alright? Give me your address! I'll go to you right now!" Beomgyu said without giving Soobin a chance to talk.

"W-wait! Calm down! I'm okay! Why are you so restless?" Soobin found Beomgyu cute just by hearing his voice and he realized he became really calm by listening to him. He was worried about his father who was still unconscious.

"Really? But....I wanna see you right now! I miss you!" Beomgyu said in a low voice. It seems like he just whispered those words into Soobin's ear, making him blush and feel hot. He didn't know how to respond. So, he just replied,

"Hm."

"What? Tell me you missed me too! Didn't you?" Beomgyu forcefully made Soobin agree with his words.

"Hm. I missed you too. But it hasn't been a day you've seen me. So..." Soobin was stuck in the middle of his sentence since Beomgyu interrupted.

"What! Are you really okay? It has been three days! Did your father do anything to you? Or did you lose your memory?" Beomgyu kept talking.

"What? It has been three days?" Soobin was astonished. How? He just left Beomgyu's house this morning and got caught by his father's subordinates. He inhaled something and he doesn't remember anything after that. And when he woke up, his father came to him, asking for his forgiveness and became ill. Then, was he unconscious for this long? He wondered.
