"Look Jake, look!" Grud points at the nearest stand, and squels like a little child who has just seen their favourite toy.
On the stand, nestled in all it's glory, was the latest Ω-engine, the most developed of its time. With latest technology, it has the highest efficiency state, nearing 85%.
This will allow interstellar travel to be far cheaper, and quicker, as interstellar travel requires long periods of time in hibernation in order to travel extremely long distance. Though magic and nuclear fusion are very both cheap and energy efficient sources, they both still need to be consumed in large quantities to ensure that interstellar travel is viable at all. Also, the maximum speedbthey can achieve is only basic FTL (faster than light), going at the speed of 5 FTL.
Dark matter, though everywhere, is far harder to extract, and even harder to refine into usable fuel. Just one gram of dark matter is enough to power a whole frigate for a whole year, never mind empowering a titan class battle ship.
Though it's extremely energy dense, the difficulty of extracting dark matter have always been the core issue for the past hundred thousand years. Though past eras have been able to refine dark matter infinitely, all knowledge of it was lost during each eras cataclysm, as if someone, or something, didn't want the previous era's knowledge to pass on.
Although the latest engine was the most efficient, it is still in its experimental phase, not to mention its astronomical price of a whopping 10,000 CC (Cosmic Crystal). None of them even had the financial capacity to do so, and even if they did, the powers that be would not want them to land in the hands of the common folk for the next 5000 years.
After touring the the museum, the duo have finally had enough of the museum. Although the tour itself was peaceful, they did have some skirmishes. They nearly got kicked out when Grud decided to sneakily attempt to snag a bunch of the new gun-ade ammunition, but got caught by the security bots. Only after convincing the head guard that Grud had a bit of kleptomania they were able to be released, but only after a stern warning from them.
As they were heading to the exit, they passed through a archaeological seminar hall. At first taking no notice about the lecture, Jake stopped by when they were talking about the origin of alchemistry.
"Our scholars have been recently excavating a new section of the Torandite settlement, most likely built during the last era, the chaos era, when wars and battles were constant and widespread. This discovery was quite a coincidence, as the researchers at that time were quite sure that they had searched every nook and cranny. Only after one of the guards accidentally broke the sealed-off wall did we find a new subsection of the settlement, previously unknown to us and the rest of the world. Although we expected it to be the usual, such as homes, sacrificial altars, or even execution grounds, what we saw shocked all of us. In it were many murals, some depicting the early days of the chaos era, some depicting the glory of the Elven era, some depicting the rise and fall of several kings, and some depicting the life of the people, common and rich. But at the center though, the center of the mural held none ofbthese.
What it held was a book.
Metal of some sort bou d the edges of it, with a material of unknown origin covering the exterior. Glyphs of unknown origins seemed to float across surface, glowing slightly. What was peculiar was that the glyphs moved across the mural, despite it being static, though the peculiarities did not stop there. The greatest of the peculiarities was that we seemed to understand what each glyph meant, despite coming from different nationalities, and even different species. Although there seemed to be no title for the book, we all seemed to realise what it's name meant:
The Book Of Legends."
After which, the archaeologist continued with the other findings. Though, Jake was not following her after all. He stopped still immediately, and did a double take after seeing the mural.
Though the book looked better, cleaner, and even more grandiose, he recognised it at first glance:
It wasbthe very book he had selected from the old man's store.
