The Bloodstained Affair

A struggle to restore peace upon the world, dotted with forbidden romance between a vampire and a human being. This story takes place in futuristic England where human beings, vampires, and werewolves co-existed on earth. Aiden Thompson was just a regular human being who was trying to live his life as quietly as possible without any entanglements with the two superior races. He had long forgotten a night twelve years ago, when he met a vampire and saved his life. Ryan Caldwell, the vampire, vowed to pick him up when he reached the age of eighteen. Meanwhile, his grandmother's sickness led Aiden to the muddy, illegal world of blood transactions, where desperate human beings resorted to selling their precious, young blood for a huge sum of money. And Ryan Caldwell. The vampire had not forgotten his promise, but how come the person he accepted into his family was none other than Alain, Aiden's half-brother instead? To make matters even worse, a new race emerged and threatened the facade of peace among the three races that populated the world. It was by then too late for Aiden to withdraw from the center of the conflicts... -------------------------- "Mr. Caldwell, please don't make me repeat myself," Aiden interjected. "It was my own fault. I... I just want to forget everything. Please stop reminding me of... of what happened last night." Aiden grabbed into his quilt. He pressed his lips together and furrowed his brows in indignation. He did not want to think about it. He did not want to remember it. He wanted time to make him forget, and heal the terrible heartache that plagued him. Ryan heaved a sigh. "Aiden, it was not your fault. We... I..." And yet, the young man did not allow him to explain. "There is no 'we'," Aiden corrected the vampire opposite him. The young man lifted his head and glared at Ryan. "I don't like men. Do you...?" A Visit To White Chapel

As Aiden sat inside the train heading for Dominion, he could not be more grateful about everything. His grandmother was not healed yet, but he could see the ray of hope shining brightly on her. White Chapel was famous for its high patient recovery rate. Simply being admitted to the hospital was encouragement enough for all the patients.

The train arrived at noon, just a little after lunchtime. Aiden and his grandmother took some lunch inside their private cabin while looking at the magnificent view outside of the window.

After checking in at the hotel, Aiden spent a wholesome afternoon with his grandmother to enjoy the beautiful city of Dominion before having dinner with her in a famous Italian restaurant. It was located at the highest floor of a skyscraper. Aiden specifically reserved a table near the glass window, where they had the breathtaking view of Dominion at night.

The colorful lights looked like small shining stars on the ground. They even outshone the stars in the sky. This sight was rare for Aiden and Grandma Thompson. There were no skyscrapers in small towns like Harrow Lane. They were also unable to admire the stars in the sky at night out of fear for rabid vampires.

Dinner was marvelous.

Aiden ordered a small antipasto platter for appetizers. It consisted of small servings of various cured meats, pickled vegetables, olives, mushrooms and various cheeses.

While enjoying the appetizer, Grandma Thompson took her time to look through the menu thoroughly a few times before she humbly ordered a plate of spaghetti carbonara.

She probably expected to see the same kind of spaghetti carbonara that she often ate for lunch with her friends from the church. What she got was beyond her expectation.

Grandma Thompson's jaw fell open when her order was served before her. Served on a large-rimmed plate was a daintily decorated dish.

The spaghetti carbonara was neatly twirled into an elegant nest. Pieces of pancetta were peeking out of the nest curiously.

A perfect sunny side-up egg sprinkled with some oregano and parsley leaves was placed on top of the nest. It was not a dish. It was a work of art.

Aiden was also pleasantly surprised when his order arrived. His four-cheese lasagna was cut neatly and served on a large plate.

As soon as he took a bite, the combination of thin, silky lasagna sheet, well-seasoned minced pork and four types of cheese quickly melted in his mouth. It was truly a memorable culinary experience.

Desserts were on the house. The two cups of tiramisu were all they needed to end the wonderful dinner.

After dinner, they chose to take a walk from the restaurant to the hotel. It was quite a long walk, but Aiden and Grandma Thompson barely noticed the distance. There were simply too many things to see as they walked.

For one thing, it was a remarkable experience to be able to walk along the streets at night and mingle with other people without a shred of worry. For another thing, Grandma Thompson was used to being among human beings.

Although she had seen vampires and werewolves on television, she still could not help but stare in awe when seeing the creatures from superior races with her own two eyes.

"My Lord. Aiden, look at how tall and gorgeous they are. They got that just by being bitten?"

Aiden wanted to say that height did not change after human beings transformed into vampires or werewolves, but he chose to not say anything. He merely laughed while putting his arm around his grandmother's shoulder affectionately.

After having breakfast at the hotel the next morning, Aiden and Grandma Thompson ordered an electric car to go to White Chapel. It was a large hospital that looked like it was dipped into a big bucket of white paint after it was finished.

Decorative carvings in black were used to highlight the windows and doors. When Aiden entered the foyer, he looked up at the ceiling and found that the ceiling was made of thick transparent glass. The grey clouds were rolling on the sky. It might be raining soon.

Aiden had his grandmother wait at the lavish waiting room while he took care of the patient registration. The vampire nurse at the reception area filled in Grandma Thompson's information and then asked for the payment information.

Aiden pushed his bank card toward the nurse and said, "I will pay in installments, please."

The nurse gave Aiden a look. She had not even entered the banking information before she pushed the card back in Aiden's direction.

"I am sorry, Sir. You are not qualified for installment payments."
